    I'm an art historian and professor and came to your videos to learn to at least be able to sound out some of the great examples of Arab golden age calligraphy, particularly the ones on the great mosque architecture of the 7th, 8th and 9th century.
    I must say, I'm truly impressed with your teaching technique and absolute clarity. I said on another video that i could learn at faster pace than this, but i remember how much more challenging learning my second language was at a much younger age. Most students are exactly in that "zone". So your approach is, in my view, pedagogically perfect. I think I've not knit learned the Arabic writing system, but a few teaching tricks too.

      Thank you for your flattering testimonial! It's nice to hear from a fellow academic! I am glad to hear of your interest in the Golden Age calligraphy! Now that you mentioned it, I might look into a few samples to use in a recorded Arabic lesson... If you have any suggestions ( manuscript), please email Khatawaat101@gmail.

    These deep and soft consonant distinction is brutally hard to learn, practice an recognize. Arabic speakers are lucky that from their childhood they learn so many different sounds, their ears are amazingly trained. I am amazed 11:39, fantastic, I'll never be able to learn that.

    • @miklosnemeth8566
      @miklosnemeth8566 4 года назад +3

      Listened again and no way a non-Arabic person could be able to hear the difference between the two H's 8:27 the Teacher is absolutely lovely to do her best to demonstrate the difference, but the audience simply has no clue, which is absolutely normal. I remember when I tried to learn the difference between soft and hard L in Russian and Slovakian, no way I was able to learn that. And Arabic has the third H with the dot (similar to Russian Xarasho, German Acht), which make the picture even more complicated for speaker like me where we have only one H sound. Ithink this makes Arabic really a brutally difficult language, learning Arabic alphabet is no problem, but pronunciation of these consonants, huh...

    • @CjqNslXUcM
      @CjqNslXUcM 3 года назад +1

      @@miklosnemeth8566 It's just the microphone that makes it hard to hear. It's way more easy than you think in real life. the h with the dot is one of the h's she is pronouncing, compared to the h in english. the kh is like ach in german. the gh is more forward anyway, it's just the approximant g you can hear in spanish speech. On wikipedia go to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_alphabet and click on the weird symbol "Value in Literary Arabic (IPA)" for the corresponding letter and you will hear the difference between h and h with dot is night and day.

    • @CjqNslXUcM
      @CjqNslXUcM 3 года назад +1

      also she switched which H is deep, H with dot (ح) is actually the deep one

    • @j2shoes288
      @j2shoes288 3 года назад +2

      @@CjqNslXUcM you are totally wrong, and @miklos is right. In normal speech, people don't emphasize the words , as she does, to demonstrate the difference, and as such it's very difficult for a non trained ( native ) ear to know the difference. 90% of the words, only carry one version, so, it's not difficult to know which one, from context. But, the difference between h and h is not easy for Westerners,
