Message: Being a Beneficial Presence When the Worst Happens
Speaker: Rev. Lezli Goodwin
New Vision Center for Spiritual Living
Dear Beloveds,
I talked with a friend recently who has received a difficult and frightening diagnosis. So many factors are in play (her work, her health insurance, her ability to spend meaningful time with her children) -- it genuinely feels like her life is coming to an end. As I listened, I was deeply aware that supporting a loved one through trauma is something many people struggle with. We've all been there -- sitting with a friend whose life is falling apart. We don't want to say the wrong thing and make it worse. We offer to help, but there doesn't seem to be anything that needs doing. Plus, it's often the case that we are also affected by the crisis, and are going through our own emotions. When the people we love are suffering, it brings up unique challenges. Thankfully, there are skill sets we can all learn to support our loved ones right where they are. This Sunday, let's explore together how to be a beneficial presence, even then the worst happens.
Much Love,
Rev. Lezli
