Im building an arduino powered midi organ over the last few months too. Its quite fun but im now gonna rip half my wirering out again to use shiftregisters to save on gpio pins

I recently found out that those cheap MIDI to USB cables cannot properly handle SysEx data. 🤬
I had already ordered a Teensy 2.0 because it can act as a class compliant MIDI USB device so I would be able to build my own MIDI interface, but then I was able to purchase a Roland MIDI interface for a good price, so the Teensy will be repurposed for another project.
