      I have the Badger Wisco 2 as well as the Zen Kyojin (the older model) and I have used both fishing for northern pike with big streamers/poppers here in Finland. I think you'll do ok with them in Alaska 😊 Consider those rods also for bass, if you have the opportunity to target them.

    Yes! I was hoping for an update on this! Love it! If I had to do it again I would get the Mizuchi first and then add a TenkaraBum Traveler to cover the whole scope of what I fish. Third would be the Nissin Pocket Mini for backpacking.

    YES the video I've been waiting on! Thank you for sharing! Now do some setup videos, basic casting, advance casting, your favorite yarn flies. There is quite a bit of confusion out there. I just started tenkara fishing this past spring. Think I have it figured out now. Maybe show some basic fly tying if it's too cold to fish

    Wow - a definitive and very welcome overview! I quite agree with your assessment of the Kuranai and Hakubai - these are two of my favorites for small stream brook trout here in the East. While I have the Sagiri 39 you seek, I doubt I could ever bring myself part with it. It is my very favorite fixed line rod. If it has any limitations at all, it would be the size of the quarry one can realistically pursue. It requires tippet no _heavier_ than 7x. With a 9” hybrid sunfish, you will have your hands full! But a 16” trout? Hmm, that would be pushing it a bit too far I think. Thanks for the overview - greatly appreciated!

    Great video! You taught me there is quite a bit more to learn about different rods and companies. I love fishing but havent tried Tenkara yet, though a while back I hastily bought a Takamiya HB Concept Static II 360cm off ebay without researching what a keiryu rod was. I'm currently looking to buy the dragontail hellbender for when I go to Montana and try using it on some lakes for rainbows. Wishing you tight lines and bent rods!

    Hi, great video, very well explained. I´ve got a few of these rods and agree with what you say. Although I´m a fan of Japanese rods I would recommend the Wasatch T Hunter for your Alaska trip. It´s a beefy, near-unbreakable rod that will still cast a level line, meaning it will double up as a big trout rod as well as for salmon etc. I use mine at the 2 shortest lengths with one hand, and use 2 hands at the longest length. The rod isn´t particularly stiff but I find that there´s something about the bend profile that seems to subdue big fish in heavy water quickly. Spare top kits are pretty cheap too....

    I enjoyed the video; there’s a lot to digest. I’ve fished with spin reel and always wanted to try fly fishing but it seemed so complicated. Your channel has me excited to try Tenkara fishin; it seems much more simplistic. I’ve tried to find rods at shops so I can get a feel for them to see what might feel best but have had no luck.

    You will like the Wasatch Tenkara Sharpshooter. I have caught up to 5 pound fish on that rod and it handled them just fine. I have the 7.3 but the 6.4 is on my bucket list. Along with several of the rods in your video.

    I fish waters where I’m likely to encounter 17+” fish, whether freshwater trout or bass and saltwater redfish, speckled trout and ladyfish in the dock lights. So I find I fish a zoom rod one length shorter than max so when I hook into a larger fish I’m able to zoom out and put more pressure on them. I think my Zerosum 360 may be my only fixed length rod. Even though small creek fishing is my favorite type, me being in Central Texas doesn’t allow me the opportunity nearly often enough.

      Why would you even want to try for 1 inch fish, outside of that I love your videos, I currently own 4 tenkara style rods, I have the Goture Capella 12ft, I also own one of the yellow bamboo 180, then I got the Maxcatch Triple zoom 10.8 11.8 12.8, I have to use it for awhile to see if I like it or not, I just now picked up a yellow bamboo 540, for Tenkara Carp fishing, going to take some getting used to, feels like 20lbs, definitely not a nice rod, but I will get it done, kind of a bucket list thing you, anyway keep the videos coming, and 😂I look forward to seeing all of them. P.S. if you ever get to the Grand Island Nebraska area, give me a holler, don't have trout here, but we got some great fish, Bluegill, Bass, and Carp, which is a great time on a fly. Thanks

    • @fishingthelist4017
      @fishingthelist4017 2 года назад

      Micro fishing sounds like what would work for the tiny creeks that flow under the bridges in my area. Those streams are not really big enough for bass, but they should have little sunfish(no trout in Central Alabama).

    • @eqot8480
      @eqot8480 2 года назад

      @@fishingthelist4017 I’m sure there’s a bunch of colorful darters and shiners down there as well. Some of the darter species especially in Alabama have some amazing colors you’d think you would only see on fish from tropical coral reefs. You should definitely give it a try sometime, I highly recommend it.

    Great commentary as always, though your innuendos about TRC are a bit disconcerting. You should just come out and say what's on your mind. But ....I have the Sagiri 39 MC, and it's my favorite rod hands down. Was able to get it a couple of months ago and fished the autumn season in the Catskills. Hope you find one. You'll love it.

    Hey! Love the amount of experience you're sharing! I originally was looking into getting the TRC Yari (being japanese made) which still might work out for me for bigger streams here in Utah. But any Japanese made rods you recommend for in between - smaller, mainly, but maybe even bigger? I'm a snob and am only interested in products made in Japan haha!

    Do you fish with western gear at all? If not you should try it out. Streamer and popper fishing is incredibly fun. Fighting a carp on a 4wt is exhilarating. Winching an angry rockfish out of a crevasse with a 4wt is unreal. I still love tenkara, the easy drag-free drifts, the subtle presentation, up close and personal fishing, but there's a whole nother world out there. The Dragontail Hellbender is a great rod that I highly recommend. Very capable for swinging streamers, can handle some big and strong fish. I caught a 5lb grass rockfish on a Hellbender using a red lead-eye merkin crab.

    The Appalachian chain (extreme south to extreme north--names change in different states) is very different from the Rockies chain (also including western ranges, different states south to north) in two key aspects: the vegetation quantity and the trout size. This affects the types of rods that one can fish with comfortably. Of course, there are exceptions and some overlaps, but generally the east is more brushy and the trout are smaller than in the west. Just watch trout-fishing videos posted from different states in the east and in the west and it's very apparent. Anywhere in Alaska is a very different story, a separate category altogether!

    Recently picked up Tenkara fishing and found your channel during my research. Great fishing! I started much like you with a wet fly 8 foot kit. I’ve caught numerous fish to include a few 12-13 inch trout. No issues but I do want to upgrade to a better quality rod for small to medium size fish. But the occasional 15 inch fish. What would you recommend? I also do a lot of backcountry backpacking/camping and would also like a very compact/lightweight rod. I did notice you have no rods from, Tenkara co, and/or Tenkara USA lines. Any particular reasons? I’d appreciate your input. Thanks and good luck!

    Hi Tristan watched your latest on tenkara rods you own, and noticed you are getting a Rhodo, I have one of those I’ve had it for at few yrs and have had Grayling up to 2lb and Brown Trout up to 1/1/2 lb as well as small fish. The rivers I fished it on were bigger than you fish and the depths varied from 2ft up to 6ft so therefore I fished weighted nymphs most of the time , but I also used the dry using small cdc duns size 18 I will be interested to see what you think of it on the type of streams you fish watch both your channels brilliant

    I want to get my first good tenkara rod. I mostly fish for native brook trout, red trout and land locked atlantic salmon in Quebec, Canada. The streams go from 4’ wide all the way up to 20’ wide rivers. Trouts are usualy around 12”, land locked from 16” to 20”. I am hesitating between two dragon tail rods the mizuchi and the mutant. Maybe also the shadowfire. Not which one would be best to move up from my cheap “bamboo” yellow rod.

    You did not mention the actual weight of each rod.

    What’s your opinion on Tenkara USA rods?

      They seem to be decent rods but overpriced compared to other options on the market. I have one coming but haven't fished with any, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

      @@TenkaraAddict just started looking into this type of fishing, lots for me to learn but I’m going to give it a go this Spring. I have a nice little Brook Trout creek on my land in Northern WI and I think this type of fishing may work well, just need to figure out what rod to start with.

    You beat yourself up when you lose fish and it could be your technique but also you are using barb-less hooks correct? then you should expect to lose more fish, everyone should be using barb-less hooks.
