Minimal + aesthetically pleasing = Tenkara Rod Co. From someone who is just entering the fly fishing world, thank you for making this rundown of your products.
It’s neat seeing how far you guys have come, throw back to 4 years ago when Tuna was talking specs (grizzly Adams did have a beard)! You guys rock!!! 🙌🏼
Where I fish, the stream change cover type frequently. I am running the teton zoom and it is unreal how quickly I can change my fishing style, with the zoom feature. Its awesome.
Wow! This is what I have been looking for as I had no idea really where to start and figure out which one I wanted. Hope to get my hands on the Teton zoom to get in the water and start fishing. Thanks for a great vid. 👍🏼
Good evening tuna happy to see the rods never fished ten Cara but are watching mini and plenty of videos is there a quick price list signing ready to fish
Ordered the white cloud for my boyfriend. I’m thinking he may need a bigger duty one since he enjoys large body of water I wish I could find his other fly rods to see the length he prefers. We live in wasilla Alaska is there one you would prefer is best for the fish around here?
I have Teton that I bought years ago and I love it. Why don't you offer that model anymore? What one would you recommend if I didn't want the Teton Zoom?
Have caught many good sized carp on my sawtooth. Was intnese, but it didnt break! (like about 12- 15 inch carp) I cant say I would recomend it. but it will handle it!
Totally know what you mean. Have caught big salmon, big trout, bass, catfish, etc. on the Sawtooth and while it doesn't break and can handle them something bigger like the Rocky feels a little less explosive and gives you more control.
What is the best starter rod I’ve heard good and bad things from the saw tooth and I’m a little nervous because of the price to go for it and I’m just looking to spend more time fly fishing I have a lake house I’m 14 and love fishing I compete in fishing competitions own 3 boats a and would be using the rod to be fishing for fish with a size of about 6-24 inches I also have a orvis fly rod that’s a 6 or 7 weight I need a rod for small creeks with limited casting areas and would also be able to fish in places with lots of room to cast
I’ve been using my wife’s Sierra, I really like it I fished a bigger river The Lower Salmon down to our local little east Gallatin. I would have already made a purchase but can’t decide between the sawtooth, the zoom, or the Yari, I can always use the Sierra so wondering what would pair well?
Thats awesome! So the Teton Zoom is similar to the Sierra (but a little bit stiffer) when fished at 10.5 and then similar to the Sawtooth at 12 ft. Its kind of a two for one. The Sawtooth is a great all around rod that has a fun action but also can handle bigger fish, and the Yari is a really amazing small fish traditional style rod. In your case I would either go with the Sawtooth since you also already have that Sierra size covered. Let me know if that helped!
Depends on the water! Personally I would go with the Sawtooth or Teton Zoom. Both of those have good casting distance but also give you some fun action.
What would you recommend for a complete beginner who would like to have the option of fishing both streams, rivers, and alpine lakes (and land fish large enough to eat)? Or does no such thing exist?
Teton Zoom would be the best bet. It collapses down to 10.5 ft. so you can fish smaller streams but then gives you the option to fish it longer at 12ft. and you can put a longer line on it for fishing high alpine lakes. Handles bigger fish too we have caught salmon on it!
When I first started Tenkara fishing years ago... the stiffness of the rods were given in numbers... 6:6 was a softer rod that bent from tip to handle ... the 6:4 had a stiff backbone and the last few feet at the tip was more flexible... I've noticed the rods for sale this days do not mention the rod taper any more... or am I missing something here? Some times I like to fish a soft rod, and other times a stiffer/fast taper rod.
That used to be the way to measure stiffness and softness but now it seems like people want to make it more complicated than that. We are just trying to keep it simple. If you check our website we still use those numbers.
How big a fly would you be comfortable throwing on the Rocky? I've got a DRAGONtail Hellbender. It can cast a weighted micro game changer, but it's not pretty. I'm also looking for a good saltwater rod. Rockfish broke 2 of my cheap Chinese keiryu rods and I'm not sure if I'd trust the Hellbender yet.
Ive thrown full sized game changers, mice, dalai llamas, and ya its not the prettiest cast but it goes where I want it to and can land fish really well.
NIce video. really interesting and nice presentation. I Just bought a euronymphing rod so may have to wait a bit. But one pointer. When describing the Rods, Say the name of the rod over and over again, Don't use "it" or "this rod", so when forget the name and click back to any point in the video, you will mention the name of the rod every 10 seconds.
I think the questions are: 1. How big a fish 2. Will you always be fishing the same water or do you fish different waters with differing cast limitations. 3. Is the rod used on backpacking trips
The sawtooth is def my go to, but I've been fishing small pan fish in my local city park pond. I'm trying to decide between the White Cloud vs. Beartooth fishing bead head nymphs. what would you guys recommend?
I'm looking to purchase the Zoom . It will be my first Tenkara Rod. I'm from Mountain Home Idaho and want to buy local so I'm very excited to try these guys out. I've never fished Tenkara before so I'm selling a few of my unused rods to buy this Gem. I like the Zoom for the versatility and being able to change from 10-12 ft is nice to have. Any suggestions or comments on this Rod ? Pros and Cons ?
The zoom is our go to! Works on places like S. fork Boise which is a little bigger but then you can also take it to some of the smaller creeks in your zone. Mountain Home has some excellent fishing nearby!
How would you expect the Rocky to fair with northern snakehead fish? They are becoming ubiquitous in Maryland and because of the ecosystem they enjoy, their habitat can sometimes be hard to reach. I think that if a tenkara type of set up could handle their beastliness, it would be a great way to get at them!
We don't have any experience with them but judging from their average size I think the Rocky could handle them. They look like they would be so fun to catch on a Tenkara rod!
Thanks! You can look at their size, but they also have some explosive power. Although, it seems that a tenkara rod has the flex to soak up the big shakes and tugs that snap a lot of spinning gear set up for bass.
Hey there, I'm interested in buying the Sierra or Sawtooth packages and I just had a question about the warranty. For replacement tips, is there a shipping and handling fee?
This Old Lens yeah that’s a good one! We just wanted to offer one mini rod instead of two, so we made the beartooth with specs between the mini sawtooth and mini Teton.
The Sawtooth is our go to. It is our best seller and has 335 4.5 star reviews. We would also recommend the Teton Zoom for its adjustability and versatility. Right now is a great time to buy one because of our holiday sale if you use code bf20 it will give you 20% off.

Thanks Jake!
I bought an RGM rod but I bought Tenkara line and line holder. Thanks for the info.
It’s neat seeing how far you guys have come, throw back to 4 years ago when Tuna was talking specs (grizzly Adams did have a beard)! You guys rock!!! 🙌🏼
Thanks Adam! And it only took Tuna 4 years to learn how to clip his fingernails.
Haha ain’t nobody got time to clip nails...there are fish to be caught!
Where I fish, the stream change cover type frequently. I am running the teton zoom and it is unreal how quickly I can change my fishing style, with the zoom feature. Its awesome.

Love the white cloud. My 10 year old son and I use it all the time for small creeks.
Such a fun rod to teach kids on.
Good evening tuna happy to see the rods never fished ten Cara but are watching mini and plenty of videos is there a quick price list signing ready to fish
Just ordered the Sierra, cant wait!!
Nice good luck!
That Rocky looks like it might be really fun to fish next winter's Shad run when it's zoomed out. Interested to see more of it.
The Rocky rod is a beast. Definitely not super fun unless you are fishing for big fish!
@@tenkararodco Understood - I mean, I'll talk a good game, go out there with the best intentions...and then only catch bluegill.
Hey All, will you make a video on scoping the Zoom between lengths? I have the Sawtooth and now the Zoom, loving them both.
Noted! We will get that going in our next video.
Ordered the white cloud for my boyfriend. I’m thinking he may need a bigger duty one since he enjoys large body of water I wish I could find his other fly rods to see the length he prefers. We live in wasilla Alaska is there one you would prefer is best for the fish around here?
I would recommend the Rocky for fishing in AK. Thats the main rod we use every year when we go up there.
I have Teton that I bought years ago and I love it. Why don't you offer that model anymore? What one would you recommend if I didn't want the Teton Zoom?
The Teton and Sawtooth were too similar and we are trying not to confuse people so all of the models we have now are much more different.
I'm about to buy a Fat Tire for saltwater use with mangrove snapper and snook...is this a good choice?
So excited to take one of these backpacking!
Such a fun use for them!

What rod is good for crappie big and small?
Which one would your recommend for bass and panfish?
Depends on the water! Personally I would go with the Sawtooth or Teton Zoom. Both of those have good casting distance but also give you some fun action.

They do have these specs on the website

What would be a cheaper option (staying as close to 100 as possible) that's a little shorter for tight spaces. And is suitable for small-medium fish?
How big a fly would you be comfortable throwing on the Rocky? I've got a DRAGONtail Hellbender. It can cast a weighted micro game changer, but it's not pretty. New to fishing.. would they be any good for Lakes?
Absolutely! Check out our backpacking and tenkara video from last year.
Looking for a rod for the Great Smoky national park . small streams
I didn’t see the Rocky on the website? Is the Rocky the replacement for the Owyhee?
Kurt Erickson it is a replacement, we will have it on the site two weeks from today!
I was also wondering about it
@@tenkararodco whats the price gonna be ?
I live in San Diego CA. Can you use these rod for saltwater Bass at 14+ inches around 2 lbs and up.
Of course! As long as you don't need to cast super far.
I think the questions are:
1. How big a fish
2. Will you always be fishing the same water or do you fish different waters with differing cast limitations.
3. Is the rod used on backpacking trips
Yes those questions work too!
Got my sawtooth ready to rock!
Nice good luck!
I wonder how good the rocky is for inshore saltwater fishing
Butsumetsu if you pick one up you’ll have to let us know, will be available in 2 weeks!
Waiting for my Teton for this weekend!
Good choice! Have fun!
Thinking of getting this one have you used it much and enjoyed it?
The sawtooth is def my go to, but I've been fishing small pan fish in my local city park pond. I'm trying to decide between the White Cloud vs. Beartooth fishing bead head nymphs. what would you guys recommend?
Once again it depends on what size stream you are fishing. But also with a bead head nymph I would opt for the Beartooth.
@@tenkararodco Awesome, totally understand size of the stream, this would be for still water, pond fishing. would that change your preference?
Great line up and can’t wait to use one!
Right on!
The Biggest is called the “Rocky”? Did this replace the “Grand Teton”?

That Sierra has my name on it, LOL
haha sure does!
I am considering one. It would be sweet if you did an individual video for each rod. Current video rather than some from a fee years ago
Hey Bryan that is a great idea. We are actually working on that. The new Rocky video is out now. Something like that but for every rod?
@@tenkararodco Thank you. Yes the Rocky is a great looking rod. That is a great video.
Beartooth gang
Nice selection of rods!
What would you recommend for euro nymphing?
I mostly Euro Nymph and I either use the sawtooth or the Sierra depending on how big the river is and the cover. Both work incredible!

Rocky for kayak lake fishing bass?
That sounds like a blast!

When it is covered under warranty there is zero cost to you.
You have to tell me, where is this stuff filmed. I plan on living in a van up north and I’m looking at different possibilities.
A lot of it was filmed down south in Patagonia!
Can I still get warranty parts for my mini teton that I purchased?
