Thanks! Love the no nonsense approach that you guys display in your vids, just shows the importance of getting outside amongst it. You don’t need expensive waders and all the gadgets. Just get out n get dirty
This is great, simple and very informative. Cant wait for my Teton Zoom to arrive. First ever fishing rod I'm giddy with excitement. I can see myself getting a Beartooth for mtb rides and overnights in the future and probably a modern fly and reel rod but decided to start with the adaptable Teton zoom to fish local small rivers and mountain lakes here in Wales while I learn the craft.
That is an excellent game plan! I think the Teton Zoom will really help you to get a feel for the technique but then also have some of that versatility for fishing different waters. Stoked for you and your fishing journey good luck!
Just used my Beartooth rod yesterday . Wanted to feel out the cast as I'm typically a rod/reel er. But, wanted this for backcountry hiking. It was fun had a bunch of little fish hits. Heading out again today cheers !
Great tutorial. I have been Tenkara fishing for years and the question I get asked most when someone sees me is, "How to you land the fish without a real?". It might be great to have a video for beginners on landing fish in the different scenarios, especially in tight cover.
Great call. We have been working on a video like that just because there are a lot of variables that go into landing fish such as line length, size of fish, streamflow, etc. Definitely going to try and finish that one up soon thanks!
Would love to see a video which talks a bit more of what a proper presentation looks like, and common problems with your cast if you’re not getting that presentation
Can we get a set up video of everyone’s rod? Like maybe favorite rod to use, preferred line size and tippet length maybe even favorite fly at the moment. 🎣
Thankyou-one of the top 3-4 videos I have seen on casting. Well presented. I am curious about the final technique for the cross breed line. You appeared to cast that line much further than I can-it looks like you were using the sawtooth-so you have at least 2 ft on my rod, it looks like you maybe had 18 ft of line -or was it more? Were using a bead head-or small streamer? I saw a small splash that looked like there was a little weight to the fly. How does the crossbreed line compare to a “PVC” line?
Glad it was helpful! I probably had a 13 ft. line on the Sawtooth with a 3-4 ft of tippet. Weighted flies will cast easier, but the Crossbreed itself weighs more than a normal furled or level line so its really easy to cast longer distances and that little furled section at the end really helps with the presentation. The main difference between crossbreed and a regular pvc is that the crossbreed has that furled section, and the pvc section isn't as thick as a normal pvc line. So you still get the lightweight line (even though it is slightly heavier than furled or level) without it being overly heavy.
Great Tenkara Casting 101 video. What about just dropping the fly onto the water, rod held high and line pretty taught (not touching the water) like you see on so many Japanese Tenkara edits? I do that when I have a bush or other obstacle between me and the fish, or I'm finding they are leader-shy.
Ya we tried to be as in depth as possible while also not getting super super particular about every single casting scenario. That is one that we definitely could have mentioned and something that we have used in the past for sure! Thanks for bringing that to our attention!
With tenkara rods the lines are pretty lightweight because they don't need to cast very far. That being said, if you are looking for something a little heavier linewise check out our crossbreed line or a thicker level line. We also have a good video about choosing a line for your tenkara rod.

Thank you. Heading into the Sierras in a couple weeks on a backpacking trip with my Beartooth rod.
Sounds like a really fun time good luck!

@@tenkararodco Is there a name for that "cast"? Maybe "dipping"?
@@jasonwoodenIt’s actually called dapping!
I think I bought the wrong monofilament line ... no weight to it. Can u reccomend a good line fir 13' amago rod?
