If you have an Arnold Clark they check all their national cars so will have more choice for autos, beware of fiesta eco boost or eco boom as known as tends to blow engines.

I've got a hybrid Honda Jazz, it's automatic and it's brilliant, relatively good on fuel, I paid £5500, Fiat stands for Fix It Again Tomorrow for a reason, avoid the Ford eco boost engines, also known as ecoboom as the engines don't last, avoid any of the Stellantis group 1200 wet belt petrol engines, most diesel models are likely to be manual, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Honda, pretty much indestructible, very reliable, perhaps look for an early Yaris hybrid, Jazz hybrid, they're good on fuel, £6000 will get you a decent, older car, insurance will probably be better for a slightly older car, especially as it is your first car, I wouldn't recommend European cars, some are really good, but Italian cars are prone to electrical issues which can be expensive, they don't have the reliability of Japanese or Korean cars, Renault, I'm told they've improved, but I've seen too many bad experiences with these cars, I would avoid them. Good luck with your search, I would look on auto trader or something like that, see what you like, research the vehicle, and maybe ask the question on here as to the general consensus of opinion

Had a Fiat 500 for 16 years, it's never gone wrong, 1.2 engine will go on forever. Cheap to insure, cheap to run, not a sign of rust they're telling you rubbish. You get one if you want one 👍 If not Kia or Hyundai will see you right, reliable cars that rarely go wrong.

There's one guy on youtube done well over 200,000 miles in his Fiat 500 1.2 and lots of other examples of high miles. The 1.2 "fire engine" is bomb proof, clutches have been known to be problematic but mostly not too expensive fixes, get one with good history and you'll love it.

If you want a Fiat 500 you get a Fiat 500 girl, don't be put off. I know a couple of women who have Fiat 500's and they love them.
Regardless of which used car you go for, i would highly recommend taking someone with you who knows about cars and knows what to look for.
Or for piece of mind for a couple of hundred quid you can get a pre-purchase inspection by the AA or RAC for example who will check out your potential new used car for you and give you a report on any potential defects

The Hyundai I10 is a perfect first car. Finding a decent auto may be more challenging? If you plump for a Fiesta, avoid the 1.0 Ecoboost engine! Fiat 500's are fine in 1.2 Lounge trim. Small boot though 🙂

i was recommended this by youtube, being from hull my self my i suggest trying motors web site and using the filters on the left hand side to refine your search, cleveland cars and a few other smaller car sales put a lot of cars on the web site :) i only found out my self recently as i bought a new car a hyundai tucson but i made the biggest mistake buying a new car i bought it from 110 mile away and it cost me 10k and its been nothing but hassle from the day it arrived i wont go into it as it would be a huge essay but i have had it 2 week and only driven it 3 times now the company i bought it from has dragged its heals at every turn what i am trying to say is stay local if possible at least you can return the car locally.

If you are looking for a small automatic, stick to either a Yaris or a Honda Jazz. I sell lots of them and they are they are the best mechanically. Avoid Ford/Vauxhall like the plague. German autos are nice but can give trouble as they get older and the DSG automatics cost a fortune if they go wrong. Just go Japanese!

It's very hard to choose. It would be best if you sought advice from garage mechanics. For you, you can be a Fiat 500 (I drove an electric one, and it was very smooth). But a little petrol, maybe a seat, polo, Hyundai or BMW 1series 2010, and Fiesta are fine too. Look online first (service book!). Be careful about flooded cars !!! Skoda Fabia...

Certainly can recommend Hyundai as very reliable and the servicing they provide is very customer friendly, never had issue with them myself yet. Own 2 myself and they are well built, comfortable & reliable for the price. I10, I20 & I30 are good all rounders & great on fuel 😎. Even some Hyundai's depending on year are only £20 or £30 on tax a year which is a bargain. The Hyundai I10 N-line (sporty one) is a 1.0l petrol , 3 cyclinder turbo charged rocket ship, developed by the same BMW M series engineer. But normal I10 is 1.2 Petrol 4 cyclinder
Hyundai insurance group is also reasonably lower then other makes that are sky high for the same thing. Automatic Hyundais are also a lot easier to get then many other makes. If you take it to Hyundai dealer for servicing, they will charge a essentials service of £199 & £49.99 for MOT with free 12 months Breakdown and roadside assistance & a health check.

Just had a look on AutoTrader.
Looks like your £6k will buy a 7-year-old Nissan Leaf, an 8-year-old Renault Zoë, a 10-year-old Honda Jazz (CVT), a 10-year-old Toyota Yaris Hybrid, a 10-year-old Kia Rio Auto or a 10-year-old Hyundai i20 auto.
Unfortunately small automatics command a premium, and sell like hot cakes, because of supply and demand.

  • @andyrobertshaw9120
    @andyrobertshaw9120 3 месяца назад

Just picked this up 13 days after you posted it.
Hopefully what I am about to say will make some sense.
There are 4 types of automatic gearbox
    1. Torque converters (the traditional type)
    2. Semi-automatics (clutch-free driving where you can shift up or down)
    3. Continuously variable transmission (CVT - these do not have a number of gears, but have a continuously changing ratio)
    4. Single gear - usually found in electric cars.
Please avoid semi-autos at all costs if you are buying an older automatic!
This is the only reason I would advise you against a Fiat 500.
Also, Ford Fiestas have ‘Powershift’, VW cars have DSG, and Peugeot Citroens have terrible boxes - all semi auto,
Torque converters are fine. Hyundais and Kia (sister companies) tend to have torque converter ‘boxes, and are very reliable as cars go.
CVT is fine in Honda or Toyota. Honda Jazz’s since 2009 have been available with CVT. All of the latest ones since 2020 are CVT on a hybrid. Make sure you avoid the Jazz iShift semi-auto though.
Hybrid Toyotas tend to be CVT, and are very sound.
Finally electrics - there was a grey Nissan Leaf at the penultimate place you visited. Don’t know how you feel about electrics, but you should pick up a Nissan Leaf or Renault Zoë within your budget.
They may only offer a range of 60-70 miles, but that’s fine if you never go far from home.
Just make sure the battery is owned and not leased if you go for one of these, and also make sure you know what the insurance will cost before you buy.
Electric cars (and hybrids) are much nicer to drive than petrol automatics in my opinion!
