👍👍...right on feller... boat's must b kind of challenging to repair and maintain the engine....and, wouldn't mind a K19 in something around here.. maybe one day.. also, like the Pink Floyd on time lapse, lol ..not that anyone cares or even noticed lol but anyway 👍👍👊
Couple questions. I noticed the cam bearings were looking like they had quite a bit of wear at the bottom. Why not replace them while the front structure was apart ? And I also noticed the cam followers, and covers are not one piece like on an 855. Do they have shims under them to set the fuel timing, or is that done somewhere else ?
Cam bearings show wear, but miced in the middle of the spec which is 3.000”-3.0035”. Cummins says if the copper wear doesn’t extend more than 180° the bearing is good for reuse. As far as the cam covers, this engine is a fixed time PT system, the cam follower is not adjustable as in the NH/NT. You set the injector to .304” pushrod travel. On STC and HVT systems you use the outer base circle timing which is 90in-lbs. In my short career the OBC method gets you within .005” and knock on wood I haven’t had a failure yet.
What is the clearance between the piston and liner
According to the service manual there is no oversize piston made for this engine, therefore this is not something you will need to measure.
