I cried like a baby while watching the eighth episode. She felt so alone ever since all her loved ones were deceased and due to that, she felt a bottomless pit of grief. I couldn't help but feel sorry for her. Her hex, even if it was unethical, was in response to her immense grief. Having her loved ones in a fake world probably felt like the only way she could "deal" with things. I hope that she finds her boys and that white Vision comes back to her for all the right reasons.
Agreed. I can't imagine having to go through that much loss in a relatively short timeframe. Even if it doesn't necessarily excuse her actions, it makes us understand why she was so desperate to hold onto the ideal of a perfect family.
I saw a video from one of those "ranting video essay" channels (where things are only good or bad, no in-between) that argued WandaVision was bad because she ruined people's lives and didn't care. It was such a dense take that exposed those channels for what they are--reactionary, grifting drivel. Even though I have my problems with Disney as a corporation, they knocked it out of the park with WandaVision--ESPECIALLY bc of how they explore how a super-powerful being like Wanda can still be very HUMAN. That's not to say she did no wrong, but the show gives so many dimensions to her character.

I liked the show overall, but Monica really got the short end of the stick. She’s set up as this amazing foil to Wanda - a woman who’s lost the person she loves most and is trying to re-adjust to the world after 5 missing years. She doesn’t have superpowers, but she has her brains and her compassion, reaching out to the grieving Avenger and trying to help her move towards a better, truer future. I just hope the Scarlet Witch isn't becoming a villain as the last few scenes of the final episode seem to imply. Cause you know the world hates and fears a powerful woman and must destroy, control, or vilify her. I really loved this show so much! I've only seen a handful of MCU movies but like Wanda I love old sitcoms so it was fun to pick out what shows they were referencing.
I disagree she’s a hero bc she finally stops imprisoning and terrorizing these ppl. She shows growth for sure, eventually doing the right thing (if we ignore she doesn’t suffer any legal consequences for her multiple kidnapping and pays no real reparations except to finally release them). We all have trauma and still cannot result to kidnapping our neighbours until we grow enough to let them go and be considered heroes for it. She can become a hero in the future with the strength she has developed through facing the truth, but she is not one here.
Yeah for sure. It’d be funny to see a The Boys style riff on the lives of the ordinary Westview people who have to deal with the immense trauma of being mind controlled for months and having their town ruined.
i mean tony stark made weapons for horrible attacks for years before he became iron man. we still regard him as a hero. heroes typically need a difficult background and a pivotal moment that involves learning and moving forward. that’s exactly what happened here
She isn’t one here yeah sure. She was before and now she’s just in a muddy spot. I feel like people keep glossing over the fact she didn’t even mean to do what she did..in the _first_ place. She didn’t know she was capable of it, she just got hit a little hard mentally then things went out of control. She wasn’t even fully aware what was happening until a certain either. If she had a choice to do it all over again consciously she would’ve never involved anyone to begin with. There’s not much she can do to repay them back anyhow...a simple apology isn’t going to work which is why she didn’t say it(though I think her walk of shame through the town in broad day light says something). She keeps growing strength wise and therefore chooses to isolate herself to figure to what extent her power lies.
I kinda got the feeling, seeing her get up from kneeling at the empty lot and drive away, that maybe she could pull an "it's all a dream" for the residents of the town? Make them forget it happened? However, one good thing about the MCU right now is their focus on fallout continuity and consequences/ripple effects. So they'll probably use this ripple to further future large scale character stories.
They kinda sorta did that in episode 2 when Vision is at the Neighborhood Watch meeting, like he’s literally so awkward and not funny and they all act like he is
Thank you Wandavision - You have healed my heart which was broken since the final episode of Game of thrones... Yes, ending wasn’t perfect ( houston, we have a Quicksilver problem) but it wasn’t bad at all.

It was such a delightful experience to binge all of it in a day. Though I do think you'll need a therapy if you watch it like that, I was an emotional wreck by the end.
I've seen a lot of analysis videos that heavily rely on the comics, so I appreciate you guys talk more about the other media that went into making this. It's refreshing in a way talk about what happens in the show just for what it is, instead of for what it means to the greater MCU. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy theory oriented videos, but sometimes they can get pretty repetitive. Your orientation towards the TV references and their correlation to the themes and emotional states of the characters feels very fresh, and is definitely appreciated.
It's a shame that Wandavision came out during the pandemic because it is 💯 a water cooler show. Everyone was kept guessing and theorising. Shows like that are also becoming less prevalent with the rise of streaking and series being released in one go. Whilst the series itself is more fun if binge-watched, I really loved talking with my friends about it every weekend.
You’re so right. I think disney is right on the money to stick to releasing one episode a week. It’s not sustainable to spend millions on a high quality show only for it to be watched in a few hours and then get internet buzz only immediately on release. There’s no word of mouth buzz beyond ‘oh you haven’t seen it yet? It’s good you should!’ ‘Okay I’ll check it out when I have time’, which doesn’t translate to the same media hype as theorising with friends week to week, dissecting your favourite moments, discussing each twist and character beat and making gifs of the best moments and so on that comes from releasing a show one episode at a time. It’s frustrating in the moment to have to wait, but I doubly looked forward to every Friday evening over the last few weeks because I was excited for the new episode and you just do not get that same experience when I can watch all of the Witcher in a day if I want to.
@@richardbourton4523 totally agree. The only downside was that they didn't nail the pacing, which is a lot easier to do with a Netflix style show because it's essentially one long movie. I felt that many of the episodes could have done with an extra five minutes to compensate for that. At the beginning it worked because it made it feel stunted, which was creepy, but the last few episodes needed a little more breathing space. All in all though it was excellent, and very much felt like a comic book limited series. It gives me high hopes for Secret Invasion!
Wandavision's "an entire town that's different from reality was built by a witch who has difficulty moving on" aspect reminds me so much of Once Upon A Time. it just hit me at the last episode when westview was going back to normal, felt a lot like storybrooke with its many cloud-looming-over-the-town curses
You forgot that Billy is dressed in a costume referencing his hero persona Wiccan. The scrull plot may be a hint to the character Hulkling (part kree, part scrull) who would become Billy's husband in the Young Avengers
The eras also play into the stages of grief. 1970s is denial (of the real world/vision’s death), 1980s is anger (Wanda’s pointing the guns to Hayward/Wanda and vision’s fight), 1990/2000s is bargaining (Wanda questioning everything/saving vision by expanding the hex), 2010s is depression (Wanda isolating herself/commercial), present is acceptance (Wanda accepting vision’s death and her powers)
Didn’t catch The Incredibles reference but makes a lot of sense. I like how the homages weren’t just empty and actually functions to mirror situationally what is happening in the story.
Thank you for this. I loved this show so much. I know many people weren’t satisfied but I was not, I actually think it tied up loose ends pretty nicely while leaving open-ended ideas of possible story lines.
If you purely look into the references to the comedy-genre (and life), this is the most amazing show I've seen. Maybe especially for people who were raised in the late 90's and 00's, who also had to watch many reruns of old shows on the television. A really good analysis
Wanda was shown to be completely aware and in control of what she was doing to the town very early in the show. So actually she is someone who could terrorize an entire town so that she can be happy. Just because she gave it up when she was ready to move on doesn't mean that the harm she did was all undone.
Having rewatched the first few episodes, I feel like it definitely implies that she doesn’t initially have a great grasp on how much she is in control. She’s so grief stricken that she releases all this power and sort of goes with it and only slowly starts to understand the extent of what she is doing. She realises she can control the events as she wishes over time, but then doesn’t examine what she is doing because that intrudes on her wish fulfilment and she doesn’t realise it’s hurting the other people. Later on, she then does seem genuinely horrified when the people tell her how much they are all suffering and though she doesn’t want to believe it, she can’t hide from that and ultimately makes the right choice.
Wow, I thought I caught so much about the sitcom references more than the comic ones-- while I know the comics I'm not as versed as the deep divers-- but MAN there were so many cool undertones I didn't catch! Great job! The 70s episode was my personal favorite visually, the 60s had the funniest and most intriguing story, but that catch about the metaphor of Wanda v Geraldine & the culture class was dy-no-miiite!!! (What a metaphor for the times we live in, for REAL.)
I know it goes without saying, but I highly recommend you watch the movies before going into the show. You can definitely understand WandaVision without watching all the movies, but I think it’s important to get to know the characters first so the show would have more of an emotional impact. This was well done! I am not a Marvel fan, I do not read the comics nor do I watch their films, but I did watch this and I enjoyed it. I loved the way that they deconstructed Wanda's deep grief and loss. Wanda is a hero.
Oh, I forgot about hidden pregnancies on sitcoms. Great catch!
This was easily one of the MCU's best outings so far.
Kathryn Hahn was awesome in the show and now has owned two separate roles
I literally just finished watching the show and there's a new video out!
I love this and I have so much respect and sympathy for Wanda♥️
I wish they had a part where everything the twins say is met with laughter (even if it what they said was not funny)
Now that you say so, it would have been great.
You mean like Big Bang theory
They kinda sorta did that in episode 2 when Vision is at the Neighborhood Watch meeting, like he’s literally so awkward and not funny and they all act like he is
@@stxrstrxckmxteo515 i don’t remember that.
Thank you Wandavision - You have healed my heart which was broken since the final episode of Game of thrones... Yes, ending wasn’t perfect ( houston, we have a Quicksilver problem) but it wasn’t bad at all.
I second this opinion! While the first few episodes were admittedly a little slow, it still captured my interest from the start. I felt that Evan Peters was wasted, and that turning his name into a joke was a let down.
@@trinaq it was on purpose, the writers know fans would be frothing at the mouth because of his presence
Either he comes back later, by way of multiverse, or he stays a punishment for fans trying to guess what the mcu is trying to do
@@garethharriott9582 it also feels a bit like they originally planned on having him at least alluded to being Peter, but since they havent touched on the multiverse at all yet held back. Loki is gonna deal heavily with that and Nexus.
Maybe Loki was supposed to air first but covid happened. And it's not like the creators can confirm it was him because thst would spoil future plot elements. And the hsve lied to us before *cough*FarFromHome*cough*
This would be entirely different if Wanda grew up on Addam's Family, Cheers, Seinfeld, Arrested Development, and It's Always Sunny
"Worlds are colliding!!! Wanda's gettin' upset!"
There’s an Addam’s Family DVD in the suitcase of DVDs! I thought how fun that would’ve been if explored.
@@taleytaleytaley It wouldn't have worked because her proxy would've been Morticia; but she and her are polar opposites, personality-wise. Morticia is unshakably confident and as stable as a table. Wanda is constantly on the verge of breaking down
I love it - it a one time thing to advance the MCU arc but it was different. Grief is powerful and you have to go through it to come out of it. And now on the Multiverse of Madness 😁
"Aren’t we a fine pair?"
Vision
"We are an unusual pair" - Wanda
That was never in question! 😉
It was such a delightful experience to binge all of it in a day. Though I do think you'll need a therapy if you watch it like that, I was an emotional wreck by the end.
Perfect Timing! Just rewatched the season finale again, love this show! ❤️
Oh, I'm deep diving. Currently on my second watch!
This show is like the perfect metaphor for grief and I love that
They really did a good job with this show. Elizabeth Olsen is such a fantastic actor!
This is AMAZING!!!!! Some of these were never once discussed on social media & never occurred to me!!! AMAZING!!!!!
Holly sh*t Tommy & Billy really did said "when we all fall asleep where do we go?“🤔🤔🤔🤔
Wandavision's "an entire town that's different from reality was built by a witch who has difficulty moving on" aspect reminds me so much of Once Upon A Time. it just hit me at the last episode when westview was going back to normal, felt a lot like storybrooke with its many cloud-looming-over-the-town curses
Darcy is truly all of us. 😂
So effortless shoot! With incredible writing and costumes. Super excited for Lockie now.
And. I'm sort of proud I noticed many references. unconsciously
Funny thing , you had Kat Dennings but no 2 Broke girls references (and 2BG was a Millennium Laverne & Shirley/Freinds as Family type sitcom
Elizabeth and Paul actually have a lot of potential for comedy, I was impressed. It's a really good show.

That analysis, just wow. I knew this show had more layers then I expected but that is just awesome
I give high marks to the writers and those who took part on this show.
17:08, they LITERALLY all have the same face omg. Papa Olsen's genes must be strong as hell lol. I looked up their brother even he has the same face.
Very nice companion to the Making Of features D+ is gonna release this Friday for Wandavision!
Never thought you guys would cover WandaVision. Imagine my pleasant surprise.
Happy Endings is a grossly underrated show. If you haven’t already seen it this is an official recommendation.
This is the best Wandavision analysis I've seen so far. I'm both a comicbook and sitcom fan!
This is great! But nexus is probably a reference to nexus beings from the comics, not the big computer from age of ultron
Excellent video!
Finally I have some context for the show! I don't know anything about the MCU but I'd still love to watch it :)
I know it goes without saying, but I highly recommend you watch the movies before going into the show. You can definitely understand WandaVision without watching all the movies, but I think it’s important to get to know the characters first so the show would have more of an emotional impact. Also, Wanda’s and Monica’s stories after the show are going to continue in the movies.
I also wanna point out that Agatha All Along is strongly influenced by The Munsters theme song
I grew up with Wanda and Vision. The new show is AMAZING. Thank you.
i was waiting for this lol
Me too, I'd better grab the popcorn for this video! 📹🍿

BEST EPISODE.... EVER!!!!
I loved sitcoms as a child, I loved Wanda in the comics, I love the MCU, WandaVision and not your astounding essay!
Can we just talk about bow many times they resurrect vision to just have him die again. Because of his data/memories each version of him feels like the first one. Also paul bettany’s acting skills are top notch as vision.
Anyways, i get people hate the resurrection trope, but we always feel connected to this character and it gets sad just watching him die over and over again.
The series finale made me weep even as i am writing this, i am weeping. Besides Monica, Wanda has lost everyone. I am amazed that she can get up in the morning. 😭
Oh, Taylor J. Williams and the take uploading WandaVision videos at the same time! lol

Wanda isn’t a villain she is educating herself and becoming a better person and she’s healing
Lay-Goss it's pronounced Lay-Goss. Sincerely someone who lives here
Marvel its been saying it wrong since 2015 and we learned from them, lil sad
Yes! It’s been irritating me ever since the film - if you’re gonna use real places, go a quick Wikipedia search! The pronunciation is *literally* in the first sentence. /ˈleɪɡɒs/
Thanks for the "For Dummies" overview of the salient points. Now I can fit in to my own culture.
The "Agatha all along titles" looks like a reference to the Munsters! Which was contemporary of the 50s 60s tv shows, also a nice reference!
I almost DIED when Wanda and Vision began arguing! It was absolutely LUDICROUS!
love this - The Take doing what it does best
I love your videos, The Take. I ask could you please do a video on the redhead trope in media. Please include how it's sometimes use as a proxy for black people. Thank you.
Very good take! Best I've seen out of 20!
I feel like they just waited and watched everyone else’s “take” on it. All they did was copy.
Great video! Wiped out all the confusions I had while watching the show.
Phenomenal. Thank you so much for making this.
The saddest part is Billy can read minds and he for sure knew what was going to happen to them.
This was so well done! Thank you
What a great video, perfectly detailed. What a shame they didn’t give a wink to such a wonderful sitcom like Desperate Housewives, a cameo from those ladies could have been great.
This is the best TV show I've ever seen - from the costume and set design to the characters and story telling through the sitcoms etc and the acting was incredible... and I'm not even much of a MCU fan!!

what a beautiful show

This show was amazing I already watched twice
Btw the ending remains me the long wait in Smallville to see Clark flying
The show is unique that it ties in different sitcoms to tell Wanda’s story. It is also unique in how good the actors and actresses are! I was amazed by Elizabeth and Paul’s acting on this show!
I love the simultaneous reverence and condemnation that WandaVision has for sitcom television.
