@@FilmStockedshin was overrated my opinion Godzilla 2014 Godzilla King of monsters revived the dead series you have them to thank 😂😂😂 manarch legacy of monsters
I've been a super fan of the Godzilla franchise since I was a kid. What's so great about Minus One is that it's a great Godzilla film to super fans, casual fans, and even non fans. It's that amazing!
The director said he loved jaws and wanted human characters to be just as important as Godzilla for this movie. The director is also a huge Legendary Godzilla fan especially 2014 movie that a lot of scense pays homage to Godzilla 2014 like Godzilla swimming under the ships and the heat ray to destroy a ship from underneath. Also, most of all the scores especially the end battle with Godzilla were in the original 1954 Godzilla movie.
Saw this for the second time in Dolby Cinema, feeling the vibrations of Godzilla's footsteps through the comfy recliner gave me a surprisingly visceral reaction, like in real life living in Alaska when I know there's a big bear nearby. I prefer subtitles over dubbing but they're not really needed to follow the story and the emotional stakes are clear. Every aspect of film making is done well here, I wasn't the only one saying "Wow", or "Nice" out loud during scenes without Godzilla! See this film on the biggest screen with the best sound you can find. I can only imagine a 4DX screening...
This basically is a remake of the original Godzilla from 1954. That movie is a masterpiece, I remember seeing a mother kissing her child goodbye before Godzilla kills them. Really serious tone & I appreciate they went back to his roots. Totally different vibe than the new monsterverse
So my thoughts at the end of the film were this would have been a great story even if Godzilla was not in it. It is easily one of the best monster movies I have ever seen, and I have been watching them since the mid 1960s
Maybe this movie will force Hollywood to step it up when it comes to godzilla movies. Also what's cool is the director wants to do a star wars movie. Give him a call Disney!
Hopefully it gets them to step it up with movies in general! And if he directs an original Star Wars movie, it immediately becomes one of my most anticipated films
Toho still gets the final say for all of Legendary Godzilla concepts and story. Toho owns the right and Legendary is just borrowing Godzilla likeness to make the movies. Legendary went to TOHO about the idea of another American Godzilla movie in 2004 but toho was very on the "no" side of it because how bad Godzilla 1998 was for a godzilla movie. Legendary finally got them to say yes but toho had rules like they couldn't kill Godzilla off and toho had to check everything off for the movie to be mad. So technically Toho is also responsible for making Legendary Godzilla better.
@@FilmStocked only if Disney lets him do it the way he wants it to be. If they give him the list of boxes he needs to check in the movie then the whole thing with him being hired would make no sense.
Loved your review on this extraordinary motion picture. I saw it on Friday, and I was flabbergasted. It's top tier for me. I've seen a lot of the earlier Godzilla films and these are my 5 picks: The original 'Gojira' from 1954. 'Mothra vs. Godzilla' from '64. 'Godzilla vs. Destroyah' from '95. 'Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster' '65. Shin Godzilla from 2016. I think in all versions you can pick it out from the original Japanese with subtitles. Or you have English dubbed. Hope that helps!
I’ve been a Godzilla fan for most of my life. Mostly every other Godzilla movie I’ve seen isn’t about the humans, they’re about the monster in the movies. Most Godzilla fans do care about the monster more than the humans most of the time. But that’s why this one is so brilliant, because at the center of the point of monster movies is that the monsters are the antagonists. So it was fun to see a Godzilla movie where you care more about the humans, than you do about Godzilla himself, because it rarely ever happened before. Godzilla Minus One is easily the best Godzilla movie I’ve ever seen. And maybe one of the best movies I’ve ever seen in general
Sweet young child, I go back to the 80s and this movie not just a good Godzilla movie but one of the best released this year. (I agree with you new empire is not even on my radar) In this ago crap to leave a theater and feel great, that is something we all need. Good review over all, heads up it only goes after this and the first movie.
You made a great point about Jaws not being about the shark which makes it so great. Some of the best monster movies are not about the monsters. I often read that people want more monsters. Only monster action with no quality human element can make a fun popcorn movie at best. When a great monster is a cherry on top of a movie in which you would be interested even if the monster was not there then you get a wonderful movie experience.
I’m telling you, you HAVE to watch the original 1954 Godzilla. Really got me into the series as a whole, which has helped me begin to appreciate the Monsterverse in a whole new way with all the callbacks and thematic parallels. Oh, it’s also one of my favorite movies of all time and maybe one of the best films I’ve ever seen. Do yourself a favor.
Chris, would you ever consider watching all of the Japanese Godzilla movies? I can assure you that most of them are better then the MonsterVerse. Granted there's like 30, but you'd get entire new fanbase onto the channel. Plus it would make for one hell of a ranking video. Also, yes the budget of the film is only $15 million. Japan doesn't do movies like we do. They focus less on CGI and technology and more on practicially.
Hey Chris, I sent this comment at the end of your live stream, but you didn’t say anything, do you think maybe you could start a series of shorts discussing the best use of a song by a specific musical artist?
It blows my mind this movie only cost 15 million dollars mean while Hollywood burns hundreds of millions of dollars on garbage disposal products that are so forgettable Hollywood needs to learn from Godzilla minus one
This is a fantastic movie Here are some good Godzilla movies I recommend *Godzilla (1954) *Mothra Vs Godzilla (1964) *Ghidorah The Three Headed Monster (1964) *Destroy All Monsters (1968) *The Return Of Godzilla (1984) *Godzilla Vs Biollante (1989) *Godzilla Vs Destroyah (1995) *Godzilla 2000 (1999) *Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah Giant Monsters All Out Attack (2001) *Shin Godzilla (2016)
“The films give us the most uninteresting human characters” No offense but the movies are monster movies I would think the human plot is more of an afterthought with the monsters duking it out
Yeah godzilla minus one was good i saw it with my parents and uncle who havent really been exposed to the old Japanese godzilla films i remember when i was younfer loving godzilla and watching every single movie and my mom or dad would be there tho idk if they paid any attention maybe just cus i was there son and i loved godzilla but we watched the American films since godzilla 2014, and i watached shin godzilla with my uncle back when it came out in 2016 (great godzilla mocie btw very interesting story you should watch it when you get the chance), but yeah this movie is is basically a more modern not full remake but modern remake of the original 1954 godzilla which basically he is evil or maybe not so much since basically the story is that he was like a prehistoric dinosaur who lost him species or whatever due to the constant nuclear bombings that humanitt was using and godzilla was basically mutated and he he got mad and wanted revenge on all of humanity for what they did to him and he was full on killing people left and right and it was crazy. One thing i do want to mention is that the old Japanese godzilla can get like big monster fighting another big monster mixmash but the human story is better written and the monster fights despite being a bit outdated looks amazing, so that is the amazing thing with godzilla he can be dark with meaning or just monster mixmash but i like godzilla been a fan since I was younger and i like godzilla anyway godbless whoever reads this comment. Also the theme im sure you knew but just wanted to mention it because you didn't it had some of the classic older godzilla themes in it im sure you know which ones im talking about
I Hate CGI Movies ,,,,Jaws was a true monster movie , no cgi in Jaws ,,,The movie messed with our minds .....Love To Godzilla king of the monsters . I Love the older movie , and the newer ones .
If you think that the american versions had boring humans, you'd be surprised how the old japanese godzilla films were. Us godzilla fans except for gojira 1954 we never watch these films for the humans. Its the fights. Minus one is just the very rare godzilla film were it is actually a film and not a movie.
Do you plan to see Godzilla Minus One? You should…

Valid, this movie truly shocked me with how great it was.

Sadly the movie isn't coming out in my country but luckily, I'll be going to the US this month so I'll be seeing this movie during my vacation.
Definitely worth on your trip! Hope you have a good vacation + enjoy the film
This was excellent. A fine companion piece to the original 1954 classic. Definitely on my top 10 of the year list

It is okay to enjoy non top tier stuff and admitting it is good. But this is over all a good movie above the genre
