this is peak gameplay, peak editing and peak comentary. you just made my day slightly better! (sorry for the bad english, but keep making videos, please!!!)
Gameplay may be clunky, but is really fun, and the level design and music are fantastic. Very underrated gem. Sad that some people cant see past the clunkyness.
@@prestige8477 It's just like you say, once you get used to it and you learn to adapt to the controls and character movement, the game is a blast. I'm always playing it from time to time : )
Thanks! It means a ton! I've always wanted to make my own channel and I've finally gotten things together to start posting semi-regularly. Stay tuned for more!
OMG why are you the only person who I've seen who's actually good at this game ?! Even all your criticisms make sense ! The only thing i disagree with is the rail switching. Like you can tell why it happens. But i swear i remember playing the PS2 version as a kid and somtimes Sonic would genuinely just clip through the rails. At the very least they should've made it more reliable than just "give character x amount of speed in this direction" _but i also can't complain too much it actually lets you do a cool skip in Frog Forest_ The games jank is a mixed bag lol Also if you wanna see the first laser, move the camera before it hits you while its being all cinematic and zooming in on you. Let's you see it faster. It does not work for the second one. Great video
Thanks! That's the goal! And precisely the reason why I started uploading. Sonic has been robbed of the ability to receive proper critique for decades, so I'm trying to do the series justice here. My goal is to look at games, point out what does and doesn't work. Then offer reasonable feedback on how I'd fix what doesn't work while trying to adhere to (inferred) developer intentions. And I agree that OBJECTIVELY speaking the rail switching is pretty gnarly, HOWEVER I still stand by the fact that it makes Rail Canyon feel distinctly precarious and one wrong move will send you careening into a chasm. If they could convey that sense of danger and uncertainty with a more fair feeling rail system I think that'd be a good balance. Switching rails in modern Sonic games just feels like switching lanes in an endless runner and I feel like they overcorrected JUST a bit.
It's so refreshing seeing someone actually play a Sonic game and not immediately just regurgitate the same criticism they've heard somewhere else and write off the game. Heroes slander is especially bad, with some people just spreading straight misinformation about this game. Making it sound out to be almost as bad as 06 ! It's especially unpleasent when you watch their B roll footage of them playing. And than you see them play like they just picked up a controller. And I gotta wonder why they even bother reviewing a game they clearly aren't good at or experienced enough to have a truthful experience. I also like the fact that rail canyons demand preciouson. Especially because it feels like a natural escalation of difficulty. But man, I do wish the switch was just slightly more reliable. You can miss a rail by switching on a dash pad... It's one of those things where I really can't think it's a net positive. Especially because the rest of the stage is already very demanding in terms of precise movement compared to the rest. I still love speed running the stage, though. It's unironically really fun and heart-pounding once you learn the skips. Modern Sonic rarely gets me excited.
@@FirstName_LqstName Don't even get me started on 06. I'll save my FULL opinions on the game for later but... A game that's been discussed, picked apart and referenced as much as Super Mario 64 being regarded as the "worst" of all time? Something's not adding up...

If the game uses composite output then I play them with a Widescreen Sony CRT to ensure the game looks and plays the way the developers intended it to. “Better not touch those fireballs!” -Knuckles not even listening to his own advice
I love the use of zany cartoon sound effects for the CPUs every time they zip and zoom around the entire game. 😂
Editing was top notch, lack of hate for the best sonic game, great commentary.
Liked and subscribed, can't wait for part 2
21:24 when you make a tornado with Sonic you can hold A to extend your airtime

Agreed, it DOES take some time to get used to but once you do, the game becomes INFINITELY more fun to play.
