This trailer is truly masterful, it’s so chock full of misdirects while also giving you everything you want to see. It was a once in a lifetime experience
Actually there is one really hidden Raiden hint. When snake is walking on the Arsenal Gear Colon his model is using Raiden's animations... you can tell by the way snakes waggles his butt.
Actually, those scenes were never intended to be played in the finished game. The only things removed from the finished product were cutscenes of Arsenal Gear tearing through Manhattan, and I think a final shot of Solidus Snake falling from City Hall and an American flag covering his body. Nothing really significant was changed beyond that.
Looking back now, it's easy to see why we were all so immediately disappointed by the Raiden reveal, never minding the masterfulness of its kept secrecy and overwhelming deception. Kojima had been promoting the game til launch as the next adventure of Solid Snake before he finally pulled the rug from under us, watching us lay on the ground bleeding from smashed faces laughing at our naiveté, to speak figuratively. So yeah, it was as much a 'fuck you' as you can do to a fanbase who wasn't yet ready to accept Japanese androgyny in their military-themed sci-fi fantasy sim with guns.
the game never lied to us, we played as snake in tanker and make our rol in the simulation in the big shell, giving the right situation and right story anyone can be a snake.
@@MayaState he’s not the only genius, a lot of people behind the writing was there to put into use the ideas of Kojima to be executed properly and the message perfectly delivered
Boo hoo I didn't get more schlock shoveled into my mouth, fans like you would've been fine with mgs turning into a soulless yearly cash grab like assassins creed. I'm glad Kojima stuck to his guns and gave us a profound story rather than conform with the endless recycling we've gotten so used to.
@ruld14 maybe they didn't want to spoil the big shell yet, so they used the berresano bridge from the opening instead, it may been cooler if they where some cars exploding and snake have to dodge missiles, cars and wreckage
damn I remember I had a PSM magazine back early 2001 that did an article on this demo. It broke it down piece by piece. How Snake would be fighting two "immortal soldiers". One who can't be hit with bullets and another who uses vampire tactics. I specifically remember the part in the article talking about Liquid Possessing Ocelot *once the colonel completes his speech, we're treated to a confrontation between Snake and Ocelot who look to settle the score with their rematch we never got in the original. But before that can happen, they're interrupted by an unexpected foe....from beyond the grave. Suddenly Ocelot calls Snake "brother"* lol I still remember that. This takes me all the way back. I read that article everyday all summer of 2001 waiting for MGS2 to release. I even drew one of Yoji Shinkawa's illustrations of Snake that was in the magazine. Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill was life back then
The game would have been better if it really turned out like this, especially when you see Snake running and dodging all those missiles on the bridge! The game turned out to be completely different but still a masterpiece.
@@Soup-man not true. Vamp meets snake on the bridge. Then two years later vamp recognised him by smell when he is dressed as pliskin while wearing a mask.
@@Soup-man the bridge scene doesn't exist anywhere else other than the trailer but the scene with vamp recognizing him it does. He even tells fortune about it, something like you won't believe who I found
@ruld14 Right before mgs 2 came out sept 11 happened so it was decided that they would cut out parts of the game so as not to offend anybody. A lot was cut out as you can see the part where snake was fighting on the bridge and also the parts when arsenal gear landed on new york destroying the twin towers, there's more info and a few pics in mgs document if you can find a copy. I wish they would include the cut out parts in mgs hd collection but they probably won't .
Its a japaness game though. I think they could censored only usa release , but keep european and japan releases uncut(im talking about that scene with Arsenal Gear destroying Manhattan). This was one of the worst montage mouments i've ever seen . Its a shame when creators has to self censoring their product.
Unfortunately the Raiden curve ruined the mood lmao! Still a very good game though but I feel the Raiden angle puts this game as one of the lowest ranking games of the franchise. The soundtrack is elite though.

I thought this trailer was banned because of the 9/11 attack which indeed had an impact on some other games like GTA 3.
I remember watching this the first time and when it said “ This is my son. I taught him everything ” I was perplexed “Big Boss?!!”
It’s perfect and beautiful
Solidus ackshually 🤓
@@sheogorath6639 obviously but at the time we didn’t know

I know it's just misdirection, but I really wanted to see that Harrier fight on the George Washington Bridge in the final game.

The music is top notch... tears
i wonder if MGS5 phantom pain will come out a new character to play the entire game instead of Big Boss.
+obedencia yes ^^
wtf are you kojima in disguise
Uhh...
hehehehe
@@rogeliorocha7221 honestly i was expecting that, the same thing happen with MGS2.
That Big Boss tease at the end, then the Ninja. Too much, Kojima. Too much.
Isnt it solidus who said that to raiden?
@@jasonlobo2350 It is, but the most natural assumption for someone who didn't know that Raiden existed would be that it was Big Boss

Pause at 5:39 look to the right you can see 2 giant buildings as the jet is shooting at snake on the bridge. Is that the WTC?
Probably why the trailer was banned
