I think the problem is rooted in having too many cards that do the same thing. Ryzeal is consistent, yes, but each card does something different, searching or summoning in a different ways with varying costs. In contrast, decks like Maliss and Snake-Eye are full of different cards that get the exact same cards, even if it's slightly roundabout; That's why any "extender" makes the same board and hand traps often feel meaningless.
In my opinion, this is a good healing format but not a good general format. We should prioritize good general formats. Those are the ones that get played for years after falling out of rotation. Good healing formats are (ok so go ahead and laugh at how my brain works) bad general formats but the community perception sees it as better than the prior format. Thus good. Meaning it's very unhealthy
Can’t wait to see Jesse and Josh vs Pak arguing about Maliss😆
I feel like these 2 like salad and marincess cuz at the end of the day they can handtrap them and then their board is super mid and don't do anything and then they can combo and beat them down. Maliss is more resilient than those 3 and that's probably the frustrating part to them. At least in this format is better than SE format slightly. The last format had 3 bs decks that did too much, and this format has 2 really good decks.a tier 0 format is ok only cuz you have 1 deck to worry about and side against. I think it's fine to have a diverse format with 2 or 3 decks. I think Josh is coping when he says tear format was fun. Tear was one of the craziest decks in history, but it was probably a fun deck to play and frustrating to play against.
The fiendsmith cards can OTK, every deck plays them, they make every deck boring because they all pivot past your interaction in the exact same way by using fiendsmith. It's generic, over used, and it's a gate keep against a lot of rogue decks.
Tell me which rogue deck can't play fiendsmith. Is this just ragebait or do you honestly think "meta bad" a valuable comment.
@@OtzkarNot every rogue deck can weave FS into its regular combo like the upper echelon of decks, which don't even need FS in the first place to play. To stack a free infinite advantage engine on top of whatever the Tier 1 strategy is doing is simply criminal
@@Otzkar
My favorite debate tactic, LYING!
Like when the fuck did I say that man sheesh. I said it gate keeps Rogue decks, not that they cant play it.
BUT, for the sake of the argument. Plenty of rogue decks can't play it....
Drytron
Ritual Beast
Salamangreat
Mermail/Atlantian
Branded
You get the point.
But there are also decks that it would be non-optimal if you did use the Fiendsmith.
Like Crystron or Mitsurugi.
So before you start making up arguments, do some real research.
What I meant was that because some decks can't reasonably counter it, it acts as a near universal "if you can't beat em" kind of kick in the balls to most rogue decks.
Because of this, 90% of rogue decks have just become "Fiendsmith This" and "Fiendsmith That," just to keep up. It's exhausting and frankly boring as all hell.
@ everything you said is valid but doesn't your argument simply boil down to "meta bad"? 'rogue decks can't compete with meta' is self-evident. the reason isn't fiendsmith. I would argue fiendsmith tips the scales in favour of rouge decks allowing pushes through nib and followup that a rouge deck often lacks. also i'm not using "debate tactics". and accusing someone of lying just because they disagree with you is kinda weird. I'm still 50/50 on this being ragebait. "do some real research" is to obvious.
@@OtzkarI'd argue a meta becomes bad or unhealthy if rogue can't sufficiently compete with meta. Maliss, Ryzeal, Snake Eye, Tenpai, Tearshizu were all far ahead of even rogue decks to the point they can't consistently keep pace with what those metas could do and have the ability to survive targeted silver bullet floodgates.
As a current maliss player, I find the most issue with the deck is link decoder. Its the main reason why 2 handtraps lose to bystial + maliss.
The only thing that makes ryz fs mirrors enjoyable, is that it doesnt have great tools into mirror besides dweller, its way worse for any other deck to play against it. Its like saying kashtira mirrors were enjoyable, and all the other decks were draw the out turbo for ariseheart/ and now detonator and caesar
decoder is fine, the issue are maliss cards just getting free advantage when banished by bystials. try decoder in any other cyberse deck (that isn't salad or marincess because they have their own link-1 monsters) and they can't do shit because depending on the og code talker sucks dick.
@@zyroberk Well, Maliss getting their own in archetype bystial, and decoder will be abused again. decoder, splash, transcode are just badly designed cards to facilitate free link climbing and should not exist

Bro…. Ryzeal is literally getting a card that searches for lancea. Please stop this madness
no, EVERY deck gets that card. it isn't a Ryzeal problem. Ban Lancea. Done.

I was at ycs orlando played pretty much all ryzeal matches. Even if I went first, I still couldn't do anything sitting there watching my oppent play it's like what the heck happened in seconds i was cooked
the funniest part about josh is he argue about combo deck and he talking about it like someone who’s playing those decks 😅
God this forced hate for Maliss when both decks are the problem is honestly so so annoying. If you dislike one deck for doing something extremely unfair and toxic then you should be hating the other thing that does that same thing but with a glaze of giant robots and vice versa. It's genuinely tiring seeing ya'll parrot ya'lls hatred of cyberse so much
Imo Konami really should be printing more Handtraps that are generic in their use as a handtrap but have a body that is only useful, as anything other than a blocker, in specific old archetypes that they are printing support for. And they need to stop printing end board negate pile cards. I think this is the only way to allow going second decks and players to have fun, without relying on garbage like Sangan Summoning.
We dont need more hand traps that overlap having there be a strict number of hand traps that you need to know and consider playing around doesnt really work if you add in more. If everyone could run impulse it would be the most hated card in the game.
@ora5799 I totally disagree, running 40 hand traps wouldn't make you start the game with more cards in hand, it would make your deck unplayable. I am NOT asking for more powerful hand traps, I am asking for a hand trap effect on a T.G. and a Roid and a DMG etc.
How would that be anything like any deck being able to play Dominus cards? That is not at all what I am advocating for.
@ora5799 And keep in mind they can print pretty much any text on a card, they could copy paste the text from Ash onto a T.G. and add something along the lines of, (don't know how they would format it) you can only use the effects of this OR Ash Blossom once per turn. They could print stuff that excludes use of a whole archetype for example: you cannot use the effect of any "Dominus" card from hand the same turn you use this effect. (Imagine this on a future Dominus card)
@@Pistolsatsean I see but then why ask for them to be generic in their useage if you want archtypal hand traps? Those are contradictory.
If you want more tribrigade mercuriors and spirit of yubels thats fine but again id push back on the idea of T.g. - ashblossom unless it functioned like a herald or had a stipulation like(reveal another tg) just like how mercurior does.
Your other example of restrictions is just impractical and a waste of card space if you want them to have other functions.
Hand traps are incredibly strong, having them overlap with pre existing hand traps that already have OPT's for a reason is just not a good especially if you want them to give archtypal bodies like bystials.
@ora5799 I mean generic in usage like Imperm and Ash, because if it is too narrow, too specific, it becomes only usable in that archetype, which is problematic imo if they push said archetype to top tier for whatever reason. Just imagine if Ash were only usable in a fire deck somehow, think about how much more difficult it would have been for any other deck to compete throughout 2024.
6 viable floodgates is a good format?
Just pretend fiendsm8th and bystial isnt in everything. I want altergeist support:(

Pretty sure Josh came to hate maliss muuuuuuch more after the YCS Orlando watchalong.
If you think Lancea hurts Maliss, then put Dragon's Bind and Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon in your side deck. There's no out in Maliss unless they play board breakers like Sky Striker.
I can‘t negate Duodrive if the opponent doesn’t summon Duodrive. Sometimes the opponent just doesn’t play into Veiler, Imperm or Droll and you are sitting there having multiple dead cards in the hand.
That’s called playing around things
the result is a weaker board though? not playing into handtraps by not playing greedy and going for the high ceiling endboard is called skill and being able to read the opponent well
Why are we saying fiendsmith is an engine when its actually in every deck... It's just ridiculous
...This is definitely Forced hate for Maliss. Both Ryzeal and Maliss are both toxic and both have shit bout them that could make the format annoying Maliss cannot go second to save they life then get lancea ryzeal at least can go second but get D barrier point is if the deck wasnt cybrese no one would hate Maliss. Call Maliss boring to play against but Ryzeal simple brain dead combo is exciting is crazy theyre both brain dead both end board is toxic these videos shouldn't only have Maliss hate also hate Ryzeal
If Ryzael has simpler turn 1 combos, why did it take 9:30mins to do it in the YCS final lol.
You mean the 8 minutes turn game 1 where half of it was waiting on judge to say if the talent was in imperm column or not?
Can we delete the charmies too?

I didn’t like Maliss until I played it myself in ygo omega. I don’t like using oppressive and abusive cards so I made a less toxic version than pure. I made Orcust Maliss which plays pretty good going 2nd and it’s enboard can’t easily beat over 3000atk monster
The issue is not so much that Maliss is powerful. Its that it plays from locations and via mechanics that simply ignore almost all conventional interaction. There is a very good chance none of your main deck 15+ non-engine will do a damn thing Game 1. That's not a good situation when combined with the deck's strength
Yeah, no...
I don't agree.
You guys are pointing at the wrong cards.
What you mean to say is.
Ban Kashtira, Hit bystials, and ban Fiendsmiths.
Any deck that Relies on them to make plays is a clear indicator to how much players depend on said strategies.
*Because it Outs X HAND TRAP
*because it Avoids Nib.
*because it makes a Negate before you actually start playing.
Maliss has 3 cards that makes them Instascoop without Said extenders.
And yet Maliss are the problem.
The cybersr hate is Unfounded, and im surprise its coming from champions.
People who praised Tearlaments formats and Would still play that.
During said formst Tear mirrors were ALL OVER THE PLACE.
So you didnt had a problem with a second deck until KASH came around introducing an even worse problem being a walking floodgate.
That was literally made to counter Tear.
Yeah man. Pro players have the most dogshit opinions, it ever amazes me.
Banning fiendsmith does absolutely nothing positive for the meta, and while Kash is extremely annoying it’s not relevant enough to hit. Bystials are very strong but not nearly ubiquitous enough to RUIN a meta
you listed three things that fiendsmith does but they are all mutually exclusive with each other 😂
if you instascoop with maliss going first then you are actually not good at deck building or yugioh i think
@@bosniagaming2708
I from the Perspective of Top cut.
Ive seen some of the more succesful Maliss Lists RIGHT NOW.
And the "problem cards" seem to be the Engines On top of Maliss.
Bystial i dont dislike overall because thats Dragon good stuff.
Can be an extender, and interaction.
But the Fiendsmith, uninterrupted lets them set a Competent enough Board without Too much negatives as it does in ALMOST ANY DECK that runs them.
One thing is saying.
Hey, Fiendsmith that actually incorporates into a Deck because its Sort of thematical like Fabled or MagicalMusket.
But its Almost Laughable how almost any deck can run it as a Starter that has almost 0 Drawbacks and At worst Eats the Disruption before going into the DECKS GIMMICK.
KASHTIRAS arent inherently a Problem.
But Unicorn was Limited to one for a reason.
Fenrir in itself is a Boardbreaker.
But id focus my attention to UNICORN since thats thr one most decks run.
If anything eats the Ash, it takes the one ofs from the extra deck and allows Maliss to bypass Nibiru.
As a Way to Gauge reaction on their 5th summon.
The thing here is that at least Kash and Fiendsmith are the zway to Play around the Decks Instant Losses like Lancea.
The other way around being CYBERSE GOOD STUFF.
Which in itself can Be pretty strong, but the Lines are very telegraphed and you need to commit to one or the other deck build.
However, Cyberse goodsruff isnt nearly as prominent as the Fs Kash Bystial Maliss Variant most played.
And it wont be until ALLIANCE INSIGHT.
IN ANY CASE.
You want to address Maliss.
You probably have to address those things mentioned...
And its Very Baffling because its not even the Best deck in format.
Its Side deck is even more targeted...
And its plays arent even as mind boggling as Tear was in its Prime.
Yet here we are.
@@Woarkeswat Ever thought that maybe it amazes you because you cannot see what they see, and that is why THEY are pro players and you are not?
"SE was only 3 interruptions " broooooo rofl wtf. Did you get a masters degree in gaslighting? I nearly spit out my drink that made me bust out laughing hahaha.
Bro SE was like 11-13 interruptions and you know this hahaha. 3 interruptions. Come on man... Lolol
As someone who has been playing maliss since the set released. The deck is extremely frustrating to play and play against. If I play perfectly, my whole tournament run can be ended 33% of the time by a single floodgate that has little counterplay. And 2 of the 3 charmies HOSE the deck and force super weak boards. And lets them draw into lancea as well.
From the perspective of someone who plays AGAINST maliss I 100% see the frustration as well. If you open imperm ash or nib plus another hand trap, if they play well and utilize their extenders properly, then they still end on multiple pieces of interaction and follow up through your handtraps. So its like you got handlooped almost for free.
And don't get me started on how busted the deck will be post ALIN. A bystial extender that is a name and can add itself back AND we get Acode talker. And the new spell is cracked too.
How can Konami balance the format without absolutely destroying either of the top decks? Ban knightmare gryphon, and limit ext OR limit ice. I could also see Twins of the Eclipse banned as well. Otherwise, hitting maliss names like Tear ruins the consistency of the deck and won't make it playable anymore. And if you ban any of the traps, or link 3's then the deck also becomes unplayable.
Oh also hit the bystials and dweller. The bystials are the best extenders for maliss that are also crazy beat sticks and have bonus effects that should not have ever been on the card. Dweller has been a problem on and off for years, and making a broken rank 4 deck that can make it (and loop it, granted not often, but can do it) is gross. Also as a side note, something has to happen to fiendsmith. I know its due for a reprint, and they will do something to it. But I don't think its healthy for this literally infinite grind game archetype to exist in the game and has zero restriction to it. The only cost is how many extra deck slots it requires. But thats it. I know most might say to hit moon or something. But once the engine is rolling then it doesn't stop. It is infinite. I think lacrima has to go. Then the archetype can still be around, but doesn't add a piece of interaction or ability to play on opp's turn or have as much follow up. Limit engraver or tract isn't enough. Ban lurrie is funny but also isn't enough because then they could either find another target, or just add engraver or lacrima and play from there. Or go back to doing musket stuff.
I think a better approach would be a new Master rule to Domain format's archetype/attribute/type restriction. Not necessarily to Singleton, but at least having decks be restricted to type, attribute, or name. Most decks to date already fall under these aspects, the one point of contention is that Extra Deck cards end up being abused in a whole host of other areas.
This would solve most problems and others could be filled with eventual support or be guiding points for how particular types of decks should operate. Additional bans could be used like say for spell/trap floodgates, though most floodgating hand traps would be divided across many different types/attributes, presenting outstanding pieces for those decks.
@@otterfire4712 would effectively kill ygo, so wont happen
@@zyroberk care to elaborate? From where things stand, Yugioh is on the decline and it's been unable to garner a generation of fresh blood. To boot, most decks are already effectively playing under the aforementioned locks I mentioned, the only changes that would happen is removing most hand traps and most non archetypal ED monsters. Konami could fill out those missing slots with new hand traps or players would shift towards the Dominus traps.
Hopefully, I get to see joshua the weekend coming to me home town im just not entering my mate instead. Im a maliss player but not solely i play ryzeal aswell but everyone has a opinion like i hate fiendsmith because there jamming it in every single deck.
I love both titles
Oppressive is good and toxic.
Its in the definition of the word.
Its strong decks completely invalidating less strong decks.
Sefk is better than goblin biker but i can fairly consistently beat it if i am the better player. They dont consistently put up 12 disruptions + hand traps that completely stop me playing my deck.
Yubel is opressive because if i play goblin biker i should just surrender unless my max c resolves. There is actually no win condition i cant bring goblin biker to a tournament where yubel is played thats trolling.
Tenpai is oppressive because again if you dont play a good deck you should just quit. Good when tenpai was meta was "what counters tenpai"
Tear zero was oppressive. You cant actually play against that level of bullshit. That is toxic.
Tier zero is oppressive
Negate meta is opressive
Blind turn two meta is opressive.
Diverse metagames speak to a better balance for the most part any meta that isnt diverse is opressive and dogsh*t.
The fact you have fun playing tier zero is nice but you cant expect the majority of the playerbase to have fun inting down with the same deck every game for 3 months. Its funny for 2 days max after that emergency bans are required.
I have a Maliss ruling question. Can I use link apple to banish maliss link monster from extra deck then special summon it by paying 900 life points . Cause I think I can
No u cant, every extradeck monster has to be 1st be properly summon, then u can revive them from Gy or banish. Unless there is weird card that says this is treated as link summon or sth like that
@ yes normally that would be true but by paying 900 life points you for fill the summoning condition examples would be cyber stein or instant fusion by paying life … which is a cost , you have met summoning conditions regardless . It doesn’t matter how the card get banished it just has to be banished face up
@@jonathonwagner8318 no that's not true. Even if you could Cyber Stein a Maliss Link, you can't summon it afterwards with it's own effect if it gets banished. Instant Fusion is different as it counts as Fusion Summon.
@jonathonwagner8318 the 900 LP cost is not a summoning condition, it's cost for an effect, an effect that cannot be activated if the trigger condition is met if that monster was not properly summoned, if you summoned a link by the effect of TB-11, you can not summon it back with GWC-06, from GY or banishment, as that monster was not properly summoned, same for Tri-brigade, if you banish 2 to summon Ferrijit, you cannot summon that Ferrijit with Tri-brigade Revolt as it was never properly summoned.
@@AntCommando look at the rules , the special summon cards , it gives exemptions for the rules of special summon monsters from extra deck without proper summoning “ unless the card says otherwise “ it being a trigger effect upon of a cost effect…. Then look at rules for cost effects . Cost effects bypass proper summoning effects by paying … it’s why premature baned and not monster reborn … think about it every cost effects card breaks /bends rules of yugioh a really good example is ultimate offering … sorry but u can argue this that by paying a cost u bypass normal yugioh rules
The 2 issues I have with maliss are, 1. all the additional bonus advantages they get, and 2. they benefit off of the downsides of generic cards.
Why does red ransom(?) have a bonus draw?
Why does cat effectively have allure instead of upstart as a bonus effect?
Why was the deck made dark attribute to turn the downsides of both bystials and allure into complete positives?
Why is shifter a tailor made lingering floodgate that benefits the deck?
There's no need for an archetype that has very strong end boards, easy otk, strong/layered interactions, synergy with one of the most oppressive lingering floodgates in the game, and great follow up/resource loop also get to end their turn with more cards in hand than they started with on top of their full board.
because konami wanted to sell it and have it be a counterpart to ryzeal. they are effectively cyberse in name only, they have none of the weaknesses of the type as a deck, quite the contrary in fact.
Red ransom does not have a bonus draw, red ransom searches a maliss spell card, and when summoned back from banish with its own effect, it banishes a cyberse from the deck, you are thinking of white binder, the card that is a soul release for 3, sets a trap from deck or GY, and draws one when summoned back from banish, chessy only gets the effect to draw 2, if you are able to banish a maliss card from hand, sometimes depending on the build that's not always possible, this was almost guaranteed in the early builds when you would use firewall to add a maliss monster to the hand before linking up into tera hertz, the deck is a dark attribute, because of it's lore and what the archetype is based on, being centered around the darker themes of Alice in Wonderland, shifter while beneficial to the deck, actually makes certain lines impossible, as you no longer get light/dark attributes in the GY to use the bystials as extenders, this turns off link decoder, as well as splash mage, as decoder and splash mage summon back from the GY, also Allure was a complete positive in branded, allure draw 2 banish mercourier to search.
The modern game is all about strong end boards with layered interactions, not to long ago the unchained deck post support was chalk full of layered interactions, same with snake-eye, and now maliss and ryzeal, or would you rather go back to end boards with apollousa for 4, savage dragon, baronne, plus 3 hand traps, or drytron with dragoon + ultimateness, decks with more negates than you have cards in your hand, and everything came down to draw droplet or dark ruler or lose.
Im a massive Maliss fan and I never played it cause I only play MD
I assume many of its defenders are like you
@ak47dragunov now i would like to state im not out off loop on IRL meta and how the meta works. I never missed a YCS stream since MD started
Fiendsmith being expensive is what people really hate, because they can't play it. The moment a reprint gets announced nobody will be complaining because every John, Timmy and Brad can play it. Same thing with Fuwalos, after it's early reprint the hate for the card drastically decreased.
Strongest, failproof comment and argument for YGO right now is EXACTLY what he said here 31:54
I have a buddy who quit YGO for this exact reason. He went straight to Grand Archive because of the 7/10 duels in Master Duel and in TCG being "I cant play" games. There is ZERO reason to invest into a game, or for that matter sit down across a table from someone only to pickup all my cards because I have no way to win or play.
saying Maliss is bad while playing Ryzeal/Fiendsmith is crazy. We haven't had a good format since Tri-Brigade was best deck.
We need more Link 1s that are specific to "bad" older archetypes as support for those archetypes that are NOT generic at all, and they need to just stop printing Link 2s and 3s, link climbing is broken and boring. If you want to keep comboing it should at least cost resources from your hand. Hand limit is suppose to matter.
Tear is fine, mirror is fun. What is cringe is ishizu and dweller
Agree those quick play shufflers are BS
The only thing that made it fun for the mirrors is the Ishizu though.
Without them most of the game will just a typical player two waiting for player one combo to end if the player two doesn't draw Havnis or Tear Kash.
yeah, like everyone really wants to play the mirror forever
32:30 I mean, that’s the reality of card games/2 player games, right? One player isn’t going to be having fun with it. In a fighting game, the player getting wall combo’d is not going to be having any amount of fun. The same can be said about watching your opponent eat up 2-3 hand traps only to full combo. Not having fun is a part of the game sadly.
Not entirely true. It’s not fun to get stomped, sure. But once both players have reached a certain threshold of skill/knowledge, it’s possible to enjoy the game, even when losing.
Granted if all you value is the win, that makes a difference. People have different motivations. But especially in a card game, the fun is in interacting. If you get to play the game and interact with your opponent and see consequences, even if you don’t win, chances are you’ll enjoy the game much more than if you watch a 5+ min cutscene that ends with you unable to even play the game.
That’s why despite its issues, people praise Tear format. Because as long as you were playing Tear, you were basically always able to participate in the game win or lose.
Stop comparing yugioh to fighting games. There is 0 neutral game in yugioh so its a dogwater take.
After watching this, it shows that Jesse and Josh are truly 2 of the greatest minds in the game 🧠, their thinking so so common 😅sometimes Jesse says exactly what Josh is about to say vise versa 💯
Marincess are Cyberse, stop the Cyberse hate.
they don't know shit about cyberse besides glazing salad and hating on circular. i may hate maliss, but i love cyberse.
Fiendsmith is a great engine that can allow you to set up negates to protect your main engine or good for going second to bait out negates for your main engine..I don’t understand the hate either
Imo it's more about Moon that allow FS to be in every deck, but mostly the already tier 1 deck. That make the game really repetitive since you see that 33 decks in top cut in Orlando were maining FS, so not a lot of variety, and Moon allow you to make the FS line at any time, even if you don't draw a FS card. TO me, the meta would be much more open and we would see a lot more different decks if moon was out. In an extent, I would says that exciton also could go because of its ability to bridge so easily into FS full combo. But yeah, generic cards that allows you to birdge full combo to the best engine in the game that allow you either to bait the opponent into FS, or to switch into FS after your opponent has nore more answers to your line, those kinda cards should not really exists. It makes a meta that could be way more various into an almost tiers 0 but not with a main archtype, it's really a tier 0 engine. And I'm pretty sure it is because of moon. Overall with the ban of Lacrimosa, FS is a strong but fair engine.
“Tear format was fine” is crazy cope lol. I wonder what his fav deck is???
