Your videos are great ! Learned a lot about turbine stuff
Thanks for watching them!😎
nice vid, expected to see nozzle at the back of tube but you moutned it front side next to turbine... given all benefits (preheat + no dripping inside model) I expected you will go that way, did you compare smoke effect on same model with both ways of install, did you notice any dramatic difference?
thanks
On something this short (pipe length) I don't think it would matter too much. With a longer pipe the end of the tail pipe still works ok but it's better right at turbine.
Check out the Amazing, Tiny and powerful SWIWIN Smoke pump here: www.thelightersideofrc.com/product-page/swiwin-brushless-smoke-pump
how come you don't run a filter on your smoke line
Great info on setting up a smoke system. Basically knew the theoretical side of the install but it's always nice to see a video of the actual installation of it.
Great informative channel as always. Keep up the great work Jonathan.
Thanks 👍
nice Videos do you made. The Aviation Daimond is for me the best. Wish you and your Family all the Best for 2021.
Stay Healsy. Make a lots of new Videos. ;)) T. from Germany
Thank you very much! I appreciate the support and thanks for watching my videos!
i would love to get your advise.my issue is that i have smoke fluid dripping inside the cone, under the engine in hi flow pump setting.my setup is a PB pump with PB fluid and 6mm festo tube.also the nozle is a 6mm tube.my only thought is that the tube is to big and there is lots of flyid going through.any thoughts/ideas???
Decrease size of line from pump to smoke stick to 4mm festo. Also if your tanks sitting high up gravity will allow that to happen.
Does the 9 to 1 ratio work with gas engines too?
For gas engines I would suggest more baby oil but it will still work for both
Great videos I’m new to turbojets I’m building my first turbine I’m using a lot of your advice. Keep up the good work..
Thanks Travis for Watching the videos and checking things out. Welcome to the Turbine side!
Too late for the freebies, but you do very informative videos. Always. Guys, hit the button!!! You Tube needs to pay this guy more for his work! These here test subjects are like really really mucho dinero, gots ta help out where we can, eh?
We agree! HAHA. Thanks for watching!😎
I you do another video on installing a turbine in a jet, it would be good to go over setting the distance between the turbine and the thrust tube. Thanks, Jake
Thanks for watching! Covered many times in my 450 ish videos.😉 just have to search for it as there is no stand alone video.
Nice Work....Wouldn't want to add that much weight to my Jet, but Very informative.
Yea. Depends on the jet really. I took it out of my Ultra Flash this past summer and lost 1lb total (empty of course). So the System is what it is. On something like a Diamond that's a 40+ lb jet you don't really notice it. Full of fluid yea you notice it on any plane.
Thanks for the video Jonathan! Approx what ml per minute is you flow rate at the lowest flow at reduced throttle?
On my tutor I would guess that at low throttle it’s about 300ml per min.
Concrete form release oil for wood forming used in construction works well for smoke oil - the game is where can you find the cheapest source for oils doesn't matter which one you use.
Good Call! I have heard of some guys having good success with that as well. I will source some and give it a try this year.
Thanks for the smoke inf0
No problem 👍
Excellent info as far as it goes. What’s not addressed is the smoke fluid needed being a variable due to engine size…
Thanks! Not critical on Turbines. Helpful but I have had mixes setup tied to the throttle channel and also mixes that were just on and off with no variation. Both work great!
Very cool and thanks for sharing👍
I want the cool parts your friend makes!!
Thanks for watching!
Well since you brought it up in the video, curious if you would tell what happened with your fingers.
Yea you bet! Just born that way. No cool stories of a shark attack or anything like that. A lot of people ask if it was Thalidomide but that was about 10 years before my time.
Thanks for this video, about to look at the smoke system on my JL L39 :-)
Perfect! Thanks for watching!
Great video's, love them all. thank you. keep up the good work
Thanks for watching!
If the tube doesn't exit the plane and is just behind the turbine it is wrong.
Works great that way as well! Thanks for the suggestions!
another nice video !! many thanks !!! kiss from France :)
Thanks Cedric!
Do you vent the smoke tank with a T to the kero tank's vent or just use a separate vent?
Good question. The smoke system has to have its own vent.
I have an issue with my smoke system. Every time I fill the the tank, it will drop out the back of the outlet pipe. I ended up installing a valve and close it until I’m ready to fly but do you have any idea why that heppens?
Hey Zachary. My first thought is your tank is above the output nozzle. Not a big deal but could be the reason.
Second is what brand of pump are you using? Typically the higher end pumps (powerbox, kingtech) have nice and tight systems so will let very little fluid flow by at rest.
I install a festo/on off valve on all my installs. And it gets treated just like my fuel valve. So weather I’m using smoke or not it gets opened at turbine startup and closed at shutdown
@@thelightersideofrc I do believe the tank inlet sits higher then the pump.
I use a Sullivan skywriter, so maybe that is the issue.
Maybe I missed it but I didn’t see a shut off valve on this build, so it got me wondering. I installed a shut off as well and that took care of the issue but I wasn’t sure if that is what you are suppose to do or if that was just a band aide to an issue.
Great video any tips where to put the spray bar on a DLE twin?
There should be exhaust nipples?
GREY EXPLANANION, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
You're very welcome!
Great info. Won't a brass tube melt in the exhaust?
Nope. Never had an issue with it. I wouldn’t use it right behind the turbine but at the back it’s fine
I'm going to be rewatching a lot of your videos Jonathan, starting my waiver soon.
Congratulations 🥳. That’s awesome 🤩
New to the channel. Glad to see your disability isn’t hindering your awesome building and flying. Is there a story behind it, or is it something you don’t wanna talk about?
Thanks for watching and finding the channel! Don't mind talking about it at all. It's quite boring though. I kind of wish sometimes that there was a cool story involved like a Shark Attack or a friend with an axe but it is simply just born that way! Probably better as I have never known any different so I learn to manage.
@@thelightersideofrc I’m glad no suffering was involved. This is a great channel and your content is addictive. Love from the south.
Great video again. I don't suppose Joe would consider sharing, or selling some of his 3d printing designs?
Hey Ted. Best thing to do is shoot him an email. gothooked99@yahoo.com
@@thelightersideofrc Thanks
Great, complete and informative video!
Thank you!
Hello from Athens, Greece and I am amazed about your construction of your diamond model, even I like more 3d STOHL and dynamic soaring planes. Merry Cristmas and Happy New Year to you and your family hopping health. God bless you and waiting your maiden.
Nice! I was in Athens and then Psara 3 years ago! Love it! Thanks for watching!

@@mariospapa100 absolutely! Cool video!
thats cool
on your smoke oil you make is it a 9 to 1 mix ?
Yea. 9L of Diesel to 1L of baby oil.
No i know how smoke system works. Thanks.
One day i'll have a GT plane. For now, sticking with EDF. 😊
Thanks for watching!
Have you or any of your buddies ever tried citronella oil in your smoke system? If so how did it work? I heard it keeps the bugs away!! 🤣👍
Never tried it but wanted too. Just need to find a inexpensive source
Walmart?
Good call. I’ll check there.
When you say you get your kingtec engines direct. Where is that? Taiwan or US. Can you give me the website please.
Kingtech USA.

Super useful video as always :)
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Can you please make a video about the fuel system on jets for all of us who are new to jet models.
Can do. Any specific information your looking for?
@@thelightersideofrc Nothing specific, just the general layout of the system, the size and location of the UAT, from your own experience of things we need to be careful about...
Do you do anything to secure those tabs to the pipe or just let them slide around?
once it's fastened down there is really no need to mess with it. If you bump the smoke tube it can move but in this case with the diamond, the tube was fastened to the top rail. The smoke nozzle was bent down toward the turbine so that bend sitting against the rail is also holding it in place.
@@thelightersideofrc thanks for the reply, I gotcha. My tube seems to slide in those two tabs. Its not going to go forward because of the 90 degree bend in the back but I was worried it could make its way out the back and pull the smoke line off the pump. It would take a lot I know but I worry about every detail.
Great ideas. I need that uat holder 🥳
Thanks!😎
Great video. Thanks.
You are welcome!😎

great video
Thanks!
Can’t wait to see it fly
me too! I'll admit. Last night in the shop I pulled the canopy off and just looked around at the insides for a while. Dreaming of the maiden! 😂
love the build mate
Thanks Colin!
Awesome work there
Thanks 😊
Does Polyglycol not work? i.e. Vape Juice
Maybe. Never checked into cost though.
@@thelightersideofrc Cheap as chips m8
Maybe not that cheap but don't know long it would smoke / vape for - be interesting to see some tests
Great video
Thanks!😊
A comment.
Boom! Yes it is!😉
My Xcalibur has a small smoke tank. I programmed my sequencer in my Spektrum radio to cause the smoke to turn on and off. It makes "dashes" in the air. It makes the smoke last longer and looks different from everyone else's. Tank made by CMJETS.com and is awesome!
Hey Rick. Yea I saw this for the first time last year on an CARF Classic Flash and it was quite unique. At first I thought there was a problem but the pilot told me he set it up like that!😂
Smoke On
🙌
Awesome!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Good info.
Thanks!😊
Thumbs up

Smoken video

Amazing

Awesome

Hey Jonathan, another great video, been using smoke similar to you for many years. I always think there is a big missing element to a turbine flight without smoke. One thing you didn’t mention is the orientation of the flat nozzle to the exhaust stream? I’ve only ever oriented it at a right angle across the stream, never tried it in the ‘minimum drag’ position. A bit of turbulence in the slipstream also helps to get a nice big billowing smoke trail. My Ultraflash from a few years ago.
ruclips.net/video/paEoE9h8zLw/видео.html
Nice smoke! Looks good. I’ve actually never played with the tip orientation might be something I’ll mess around with on the diamond as it’s easy to access the nozzle from both sides.
Cool 😎
Your first!
nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks to you Jon great to hear the UAT holder will go with your diamond. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Ruben.
Thanks Ruben! I installed it and it’s perfect! Merry Christmas and happy new year to you!😎
Always enjoys watching your videos. Thanks Jonathan for the amazing videos
Thanks 😊
Another great video! I have seen people setup smoke through a UAT (if you have room)! It eliminates any smoke interruptions, so the smoke stays solid during Acro! It also solves the smoke fill issue.
Hey Jeremy. Yea good call. I don’t have any setup like that but now that you mentioned it, would have been good to include. I have thought about adding one to the tutor. Thanks for watching
Great video, have to agree that the Kingtech smoke pumps are a great pump. Looking forward to see how much smoke is generated on the Dimond.
Thanks Darren! Me Too!
Brilliant , as usual !!
This is the way i programme the fuelpump , on my Moki Radials too
Well done as usual mate
Cheers
Phil
Thanks Phil! Thanks for watching!😎
Why to the engines have some throttling issues when the smoke is turned on? And what’s the best way to prevent that from happening?
What you’re explaining is probably the rumbling when you turn the smoke system on and the throttle is at idle. It’s generally the smoke oil igniting versus atomizing. Best solution is when you do the throttle mix don’t allow the smoke to come on until the throttle is up let’s say a quarter
Great!
🙌. Shipping your package out tomorrow!
Thank you for the video, very informative, never used a smoke system but looks really cool, 😀
Thanks for watching!

Good vid!
👍😎
Thank you so much for this radio setup I don’t fly turbines yet but it will be very helpful with the giant scales!
Sweet! Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
I've seen smoke systems made by using a brushed esc and a cheap washer pump. They work well when set up correctly.
Yea for sure! That's a great option! Lots of guys will use a "Faulty" fuel pump for turbines. They still work great but not accurate enough for running a turbine. Just need an ESC and it's a great options as well.
Very informative video, especially the throttle-smoke pump mix.
Awesome! Thanks for watching Eduardo!
Gonna be adding a smoke system to my jet soon, this answered alot of questions I already had. Thanks for the awsome video again. Keep them coming.
Perfect! Great Timing and thanks for watching!
Excellent video once again. I could really use those clips for my rebel jet
Heck yea!!
Great tutoria, love the smoke system, keep doing the videos. Very informative 👍
Thanks 👍 and Thanks for watching!
Didn’t win the lights, so I can’t wait to get my 3D parts lol. Awesome video!
Haha. Awesome 😎
Best bit of advice I’ve been given was to use a Festo one way check valve between the smoke line and the outlet tube...no leaks when system is off.
That's a great idea Justin! makes total sense! Thanks for sharing that!
You can also set up your sequencer in your radio to pulse the smoke...just a neat effect 😁
Haha. Sometimes weather you like it or not
Professor Jonathan, well done explaining the whole smoke system and setup you have and do use.
Thanks for watching Russell!
Love the work Jon. You have great instructional videos. Can’t wait to see the maiden flight!
Thanks 😊 and thanks for watching

I just looked up the price of the landing gear 🤮😂
Haha. If you want a real shock look up the price of landing gear and struts for the CARF L-39😂 that will give you a shock.
Love the custom bent screwdriver!!!!
Me Too! The MOST Used tool in the tool box!
I love how informational your videos are. I haven't been interested in adding smoke to my turbine planes. But after watching this video I think my next build will have to be my first. The throttle mix makes so much since, great tip!
Thanks Jeff! One of the benefits I didn't talk about in the video with the throttle mix is it helps to make your smoke fluid last longer as well. Thanks for watching!
I noticed on my friends jet that I believe his pump is either on or off. So if he turns on his smoke at idle he gets a lot of unburnt smoke fluid dripping into the exhaust area.
@@jeffjackson6358 yea that's one of the problems with the on off method. I have used it and it works ok as long as you don't turn the smoke on at idle for the reasons you mentioned. Additionally I have seen it happen and had it happen on my planes, at idle or close to idle you turn smoke on and you get a thundering roaring sound. that's the smoke fluid igniting and not atomizing! Fun and scary all at the same time!
@@jeffjackson6358 Also when I finalize the mix on the radio I don't have smoke come on till i'm slightly up on the throttle stick/curve.
Can't wait to see that smoke in the new year!
Me too!!!!🙌
The best stuff is always the free stuff!
You got that right!🙌
