- What may be common knowledge to some may not be the case to others. Here, I talk about why the common recommendation for storage options is to go with an SSD and HDD rather than just buying a larger HDD.

What about an SSHD?
I got an SSHD and the 8gb SSD flash memory is really fast!
Yo i wanted to ask is it worth to not get hdd but only get ssd?
@@spxrks.4711 Ususally
Beautifully explained!
You've explained this scenario, (SSD + HDD) very well.
Perhaps you might explain the scenario, of installing an SSD into an older system?
For example: A system which only supports Sata 2, for instance.
The advantages and disadvantages of doing so and the performance issues of this kind of scenario.
Also, when upgrading aging hardware, how does not having a SATA controller with AHCI support, impact SSD performance?
And if solid-state technology has a place alongside previous-generations hardware?
Helpful video, keep it up!
Thanks Leigh!
When I built my first PC (coming from Xbox One) I severely underestimated the impact of the absence of an SSD in a high-end system. Games like Rainbow Six Siege I can't even play on high without people complaining about my loading times, so I have to play on low to load like everyone else, PUBG 80% of my matches the first minutes the buildings won't even load making me downgrade the texture quality. I learned my lesson, for a system that you plan to run games at the highest quality preset, even if it's 1080p resolution, you need an SSD for some online games due to atrocious loading times.
Very informative awesome job.
I just bought a laptop and i have never owned a pc before and i didn't know why some laptops had ssd and hdd so thank you for explaining this.
Thankyou sir for good explanation.
So, at around 5:00 you said that the only difference was boot time, and that once its loaded up on a hdd ssd setup, it doesn't matter if you put a game on either drive. is that because the game is loaded up into the ssd as a cache? I saw somewhere that most people have a high capacity hdd with an ssd cache infront of it, and i was wondering if that's how this works
Dude, I want to ask you that "I had a SSD in my laptop and then I added HDD for storing my files, If I install it in main drive (SSD), which one working harder ?
With how much storage is available in the cloud or in a secondary service (steam library etc) It is valuable for the added speed for even a smaller volume SSD and smaller HDD vs large HDD alone.
Spencer Francis absolutely! There's a lot a options compared to a stand alone HDD they can provide many perks
The trick is ensuring that your SSD IS actually faster than your HDD. I got suckered into a low cost low volume SSD that my WD Black drive almost out paces. Maybe a good video idea on Read and Write speeds and why they are the definitive measure of speed?
Spencer Francis ooooo good point, I should go into that. I almost bought into some really cheap SSD's but pulled out because of poor reviews. Yeah I'd love to make a video about that
Will the PC automatically decide what to store on the hard disk drive and what it should leave on the SSD drive or do you have to dictate which drive you would like to store things 🙄
I am getting can into the "computing world" (the last time I used my laptop which I bought on 2010, it was "top of the line" back then, a LOT of things have changed since then) I have recently learned about ssd. So, my questions are, so far the only thing I've learned about the add is that "is faster than the Hdd" are there any other great benefits about the Sdd? And, is 256 SSD & 500 HDD a good combo Hybrid? Or does it really matter like choosing a 125 SDD & 500 HDD hybrid?
Thank you for your input, I'm fixin' to get a new laptop here before Christmas so, I hope you'll reply asap. 🙏🏻😊
P.S. Or if anyone else has any advice, please feel free to help me out. These new laptops now a days are "Greek" to me! (in the past I've always use AMD Athlon however, I do plan to play some video games on this one as well (I'm not a gamer lol) and want one I can do things with photos with (making t-shirts, magnets etc.) Any ideas?).
i have a NVMe which is my 'C' drive and a SATA as my other 'D' and 'E' drive
so if I get a HDD for extra storage will it show down my SATA just like how ram adapts to the slower stick of ram?
Much needed
Quick question what if I have a ssd in my laptop but nothing is on it will it still make my boot time faster and my app loading time faster
I have a question I have a motherboard with a conection "Satan Power" and conection labeld "HDD1, HDD2, HDD3" is it ok to conect a SSD to these. I dident find any info on this.
Sorry for English I amendementen from the netherlands
I need help. I'm gonna build a pc and I'm getting a Samsung 980 1tb m.2 SSD and wanna use my window's and stuff on that but I also have an old Toshiba harddrive with all my old files on it so can I use them together and use the SSD as the os holding one???
i have a samsung evo 860 pro 1tb ssd and seagate 2tb pro hdd, i was only using my ssd now im using both it feels like its 3x faster, smoother and faster internet speeds when downloading and more stable
Great video but just one question... you mentioned that putting certain programs and things on certain drives, but how do I specifically put a specific program onto a certain drive. Say I wanted to have photo shop on my SSD, how would I specifically add that to my SSD and make sure it doesn't just automatically go to my HDD?
im pretty sure before installking that specific program there will be usually an option as to where you want the files of that specific program to end up after installing it
Yeah ryan is correct or you could just you know take the app and just transfer it over to the ssd
Thumbsup for addressing the question firstly and then for the detail info
sorry for not watching this video for a week, anyway - when my dad comes for Christmas, i would have gotten one of the cheap m.2 sticks or an ssd but after around a month of using my pc, my 1tb hard drive already has around 500gb storage left, so I have to go with another hard drive, the life
Good answer. That what i need.
yesssss new video :D
Huh.. I wonder if you can move your "user" to the bigger HDD? Or does tht cause issues?
Mainly i want it to auto save downloads, documents etc on that other drive and leave the SSD for OS stuff.
That’s what I wanna do too mate, but I haven’t found a way that properly works yet
question, what if i buy an hdd drive that's 500gb, but i already have an ssd card will my performance get worse or better?
No it won't get worse or better you will have just more space than you already have.
Anything to play ps2/ps3 emulators faster with this set up, I hope.
Nice video
Thank you Mr Herp Derp
im new to Duel HDD and SSD can i pick what downloads n what goes to what?
Yea
Yo dude im still using an 2tb hdd and i was planning to change it to 240 gb ssd is it going to be worth it if i will upgrade to 240gb ssd?
SSDs are known to be significantly faster than HDDs, so *I* recommend adding an SSD to your PC, although, I would go for a larger size (1T should be ok).
Looking at a new gaming laptop, do you think 1tb SSD would be better than 500gb SSD/ 1tb HDD configuration?
a 1TB SSD is really expensive
Take hdd as back up (games that you play once month /old pics and song) as for daily task keep it the ssd
If I install PHOTOSHOP on the SSD, how do I direct the files it creates (JPG, etc) to the HDD?
Go watch Linus tech tips
Very clear! Thank you
So I am probably going to have like 10-15 games on my PC. I plan to get a 512gb SSD, and I'm thinking a 200 or 500gb HDD. Is 512gb on my SSD enough to put all my games on there for faster boot up while still having a good bit of storage to spare? Or is it just not worth it, because I dont really mind having slow loading times, I just was wondering if I could take advantage of these 512gb. Also, how many GB do you reckon I get on my HDD if I will be doing content creation as well as video editing and gaming? Please let me know. I'm thinking anywhere around 200-500gb but I just cant decide.
Just get a bigger ssd
HDDs r cheap u should get a 1TB one and then depending on how many videos u plan to keep or how many games and how big the games r 1 or 2TB ssd
So if I get both what kind of data should go on my SSD and what kind of data should go on my HDD?
The system (windows) + the game that you play alot specially if its online
@@ddlr5867 thanks
Jd i got that same chair for $100.00 its nice. Ok i got a 250ssd and a 4tb Hard drive the 250 is for my opp system. Hard drive are for games.
What if I only have SSD as my Storage data in computer instead of HDD ?? In other words, no HDD but only SSD for saving all my data in it. Is that possible ??
I have the same question
@@60x-byugsheladia59 Yes, you don't need both, if anything, just using an ssd for everything will make your computer even faster. You can use either a hard drive alone, an ssd alone, or both.
@@MohsinChheena oh cool. Thanks for the heads up mate. Going to buy a pc this christmas. I have a very slim budget of 450 dollars.
Is it better to have one ssd for everything or two ssd or ssd/hdd combo?
One SSD and SSD HDD are the same thing but SSD and HDD Combo means that some of your apps might be in the HDD (if you want to) But in one SSD all of your apps games OS all in that so basically your entire PC runs very smooth
IF i have both ssd and hhd in the same case so games will be loading according to which one
I read that the HDD is a sort of backup storage to the SSD which loads faster. Not sure how since I am learning myself.
According to which one you have the game installed too
Ok good to know but if I open up that thing where I press windows and r and I don’t see an ssd is that bad and does it mean I don’t have a ssd
Can you buy just ssd's and no hdd?
I am wondering can you run a ssd and a hdd at the same time or will you have to reboot for the one you want to access?
You can run both at the same time. I personally use my SSD as my "OS drive" and HDD for anything else.
@@RS-wk5tsWill u get the same reading speed of ssd, if i put my files in Hdd?
@@neconerogultiano1207 No. If you'll be utilizing the same setup that I did, your OS will run fast, but your files will utilize HDD.
@@RS-wk5ts i see, beginner here! Things clear up to me now thanks! 🤙
If I have my windows installed on a hdd and my games installed on a ssd, will the games load faster?
Nooo install the os on ssd then the game to hdd
@@potatoaim5018 Thanks for the reply bro. I'll do that.
Im goingto buy ssd plus hdd is it ok otherwise it will effects performance speed...?
Yeah I mean if you have both make sure put your OS in SSD and some hard resource usage apps
@@ZaahidEditzzz Thank you for reply bro i already bought and its working fine.😂
Man this jit handsome not gon cap
Like it thank u
anyone help? my computer is using my hdd and not my ssd
Good reasons for doing it too
niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Instead of getting an HDD, why not just add another SSD? Though for budget reasons it'll be 200GB instead of 1TB. Is that ok?
Wow well I am happy that i bought an ssd 😆
Enjoy your like
Thanks bro. I was just wondering if my games or programs need to be on the ssd ir not. cleared my doubts
can i just get a ssd?
Cool on all that talking bro no cap 🧢 tbh.
I have only ssd (;
Eric W does it have any side affects ?
Do SSDs prevent stuttering in games when compared to HDDs? I've heard people say different things on this, and, though I can't remember which video, I remember that Linus himself said that SSDs prevent stuttering. (I got an ssd a while back so I can have the dual SSD + HDD setup, mostly to try and eliminate stuttering in some games, but it didn't work, and I've been trying for the longest time to try and fix it.)
JISH SSD does not improve graphic stuttering, but it will help with games that implement auto-save during gaming, like Skyrim for example. Even that, it's still marginal especially with entry level SSDs which write speeds are not that much faster than a typical 7200rpm HDD.
Welp I just wasted some money lol. Oh well. At least I get a faster OS??
I think it helps with stuttering for sure. I tried the difference myself but even with ssd stuttering still might happen but it’s usually much more subtle
Too focused on being hot to give info in a clearer tone.
huh
I was trying to say that this guy seems like he’s too focused on how he looks which is distracting from him giving good information.
Why are you so much handsome? very good explanation, very good looking and very good background.
Dang get out of yo basement
Do i put fortnite on a ssd?
no put fortnite on a recycle bin
What's better for game development? HDD or SSD? Can you help
SSD bro
