I never really watched Star Wars until the early 90s and X-Wing CD completely captured my imagination! I went on to TIE Fighter (which was superb) and X-Wing vs TIE Fighter (which was less than superb).
I only just purchased Alliance and I'm all in for the gameplay and the story. It is so good!
I can't suggest the XWA Upgrade project enough if youre getting back into this game. Not only have they improved the game immensely, but there's also a TIE Fighter conversation mod for it now.

I think they're on patch 5.6.2. There's also a TIE Fighter conversion for XWA using all the new upgrades
