Im from California and will be going to Louisiana for Mardi Gras next year. Where you would recommend for someone who has never done crayfishing before to go to? We have crayfish but they are rare to find in LA lol, only in some parks
what do you find works best for bait? white red or fish meat? cat food mixed with this and that or??? because we have a few lakes where we are with murray and the red crawfish too. id really like to get the kids into this
I'm honestly shocked at the amount of crawfish that are in those traps at one time. Would love to know how they are made and how long you would let them soak
thats awesome!!.. so many in one catch!!!.. my question.. how do they get in?.. what kind of trap is that?.. i would to pick me up a few of those to try out.. thanks for the video..!!!
How the heck do you catch that many crawfish and one day. Over the Summer I set a crawfish trap for two days and didn't catch anything except for a water bug.
Flipping heck - never seen such numbers. I get up to 15 + in a UK trap on a river location. These volumes are incredible. I kill them humanely with knife thrust through head and then cut claws off and cut tail off. I remove tail 'fins' on body and remove gut tube by pulling off central fin. This means I only have to cook smaller quantities and just the meat I want. I then crack the tails and pop the meat in a bowl and crack the claw and pull the claw muscle out easily. I then cook with a little onion (shallots are better), some garlic, cream and perhaps a good splash of white wine. Add this to a fresh bowl of cooked linguine or even spaghetti for a delicious filling meal. Personally a cold glass of a crisp white wine (Gerwertztraminer) makes this a meal to remember and with the added bonus of it being a 'free' treat.
+jonathan doak also you should try and get all the invasive species because they harm the ecosystem. generally states will have no limit on male or female crayfish of invasive species so you can help your local ecosystem
If I catch a female with eggs I throw it back. they keep their eggs tucked up under their tails until they hatch. other than that they're all fair game. And you can't miss noticing the eggs cause there are a lot.
hey i got a question.... I live in Northern Ontario and we have these things but we call them crayfish... would they be good to eat if you put a trap out for them up here
Ryan Loon you can also just but them in boiling water for a couple minutes till their eyes turn white. Then you peel the tails and you can make a stew with them. Bunches of recipes on line... as well as recipes for boiled crawfish
Where u running out of we was off the GA cut goin back twards beau bayou and in the red eye and we wasn't doin nearly that good maybe 20-25 sacks a day lol hope u stored all that money away for a crappy season like last year lol
40-80 bucks where I live in Tx. depends on the size and breed of crawfish. Here we have what you call mudbugs. they're smaller and grey and then we have those much bigger red ones. Less pickin more eatin! lol
Depends on the time of year... during lent they are more expensive... and on Easter weekend the price is always sky high because of the Cajun tradition of crawfish boils on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The price drops after Easter and lowest in June and July because the shells start getting hard and they’re more difficult to peel.
Kyle Broussard We in Hawaii traditionally , don't catch and eat crawfish here due to the lack of streams , lakes and rivers . As kids though , we used to play in the irrigation ditches of our sugar plantations and catch and eat them ,although not in large quantities , just to experiment . We were advised by our parents to not eat them due to the pesticides and other stuff that were in the water , but we wouldn't listen anyway , because they tasted good . We now got a bunch of southern and cajon style eateries these days so us locals don't have to go down to the plantation ditches anymore . Actually , the plantations have all been shut down because of cheaper sugar grown elsewhere , and the high cost of real estate here in Hawaii .
most of.them run every other 2 or 3 days of different sets. 100 over here. 100 over here. 100 over there. where every day u make money. right now there 3.50 4.00 lbs 40lbs per sack. =few bucks. but he probably does this for a living but they only run for a few months then he has to crab or shrimp. something like that.
What do they taste like ? lobster? we have lots of crayfish here in Canada no one I know eats them. Crayfish here are dark brown don't see red ones here.
Holy cow some of those traps were crazy full! Nice video!
This is the best crayfish video that I've seen so far. Everything is efficient here.
Nice job, from the guys of crayster. Also love your catfishing!!! Way to go.
That's the biggest haul on vloggs I've ever seen . Good job !! Wowwww ! !
The Lord smiled on you that day. That's a lot of mudbugs
I'd love to be able to buy crawfish from you direct.

Awesome video
What kind of bait are you using? We have a similar crayfish in Northern Territory Australia.
Stephen Lees I seen some of y'all in Australia eat like one or two crawfish and be done man over here in Louisiana we eat our own weight in crawfish
what do you find works best for bait? white red or fish meat? cat food mixed with this and that or??? because we have a few lakes where we are with murray and the red crawfish too. id really like to get the kids into this
I bet you can sell those floating plants to aquatic stores. those look nice. living in California here
They are hell. There an invasive species and get caught up in your motor and give you lots of trouble
If California will buy them for a nickel apiece, everyone in Louisiana would become millionaires
Hey man question what type of trap system because I found a sweet honey hole with nice red crawfish
Wat do u put in those traps to have that much crawfish in one bag
I'm honestly shocked at the amount of crawfish that are in those traps at one time. Would love to know how they are made and how long you would let them soak

Duy Nguyen they have 2 holes where the crawfish crawl in and they can't get back out. The trap is a pillow trap.
what kind of bait are you using I just started doing this in indiana and we catch some real nice ones just not a lot
Looks like cooked corn cobs
It is commercial bait blocks made from mostly grain.
What do you get per pound of crawfish
How do the crawfish get into that style of trap
Man, I know this is old, but what make of boat is that? Just what I'm looking for.

Where did you go and where did you put them
can i ask you question do you keep male and femanl all together or do u throw the ladie back so the can bread and get more crawfish?
+jonathan doak The crawfish population here seems to be in no danger regardless.
+jonathan doak also you should try and get all the invasive species because they harm the ecosystem. generally states will have no limit on male or female crayfish of invasive species so you can help your local ecosystem

Ryan Loon you can also just but them in boiling water for a couple minutes till their eyes turn white. Then you peel the tails and you can make a stew with them. Bunches of recipes on line... as well as recipes for boiled crawfish
They are great to eat anywhere. I have a how to boil video on my channel. Check it out.
It's a pillow trap. What I don't recognize is the sausage size bait he is using along with the fish What is that? A type of range cube?
It's a grain bait called southern pride crawfish bait made by purina

How much is a sack of crayfish worth
I sack is usually 35 lbs. From 1.59 a pound in Kemah Tx ; to 1.97 on up in Houston.
40-80 bucks where I live in Tx. depends on the size and breed of crawfish. Here we have what you call mudbugs. they're smaller and grey and then we have those much bigger red ones. Less pickin more eatin! lol
jermo31 its crawfish not crayfish
@@loganstewart1441 actually it's both lol

I don;t see how those crawfish are getting into the traps. Are they squeezing through the holes in the chicken wire ass end first?
There are flus on the bottom side of the trap to let them in the traps he's using are called pillow traps look like 5 footers

How do you make the traps
🇺🇸🦅⚓️👍🏻
banking hard as fuck !!!!
I'm jealous!!!!!
What do they taste like ? lobster?
we have lots of crayfish here in Canada no one I know eats them.
Crayfish here are dark brown don't see red ones here.
They have a similar taste every state or country has different types of crawfish
You need to catch them then boil them until they turn red
I saw a coupla them and caught and tried them out in vermillion bay when I was there and they are no different than here just as good
when the water starts to boil throw them in for 5-7 minutes
but you gotta have the right seasoning or they wont tastse good at all
I've ate one raw before, terrible dont do it. My ass look like the Japanese flag after i ate it.
Did you pull out the digestive line thing?
+Rashard Copedge yeah
lmao
