Though it was a little confusing when it relates the first mission, so probably needs a dateline inserting to make it clear it's a " flashback".

Well...since THEY were doing this..for ALL mankind...then the VERY least mankind could have done..was MAYBE giving them a markedly BETTER ship, that could withstand considerable damage, but being able to BE repaired. And not just..get there..& the ship be COMPLETELY..and irreparably FUBAR.

I like you work, but you really need to ramp up your pronouncing-Slavic-names game.
Alexej is not pronounced A-LE-xee, but A-le-XEY, rhyming with sleigh, in the Russian pronunciation (and A-le-xey, stressed on the first syllable, in the Czech and Slovak pronunciation).
Enjoying this while taking care of the wife's to do list.
