I think it's funny when people assume Eridan is just lonely because of his want to have his quadrants filled. He's simply thinking of his future, where quadrants aren't just for fun, where his life will literally be in danger if he doesn't have both a kismesis and a matesprit. However, his friends don't understand quite yet.

I love this track so much, because I think it fits Eridan PERFECTLY. It's got this nautical marching tune, as well as seeming semi-royal, just like the princely pirate Eridan aims to be and is pressured to be. The recorder makes him seem incredibly young, as he is. He's just a tiny kid trying to prove to his friends that he's all he says he is and all that his caste says he should be- violent and cold. And in a way, he is violent and cold, because he tries so hard to be, whether he shows compassion to some characters or not. Eridan is a very interesting character, once you sit down and think about him. While I don't particularly sympathise with him, I still feel Hussie did an incredible job of creating (yet another) detailed and interesting character even with very little screen time.

I feel like people are forgetting what Eridan's 'job' was prior to the session.
He literally went out and KILLED the lusii of other trolls to feed to Gl'bgolyb (Feferi's lusus). Lusii are literally created to look after, guard and protect young trolls from harm. I think a few of us are underestimating our prince.

I think it’s really interesting that this song has the ‘marching song’ kinda beat to it, because Eridan really likes history, especially history surrounding battles and war. It’s a nice little tie in

I like how it’s combining eridan’s interest with military history and his class as a sea dweller. It sounds like the navy
I personally ABSOLUTELY LOVE his character. His personality is so inspiring. A personality of a true, great and powerful ruler. This music perfectly highlights his royalty. He is violent, but it just gives him a more amazing personality. I don't like when people make him a fuckboi, wanting to fill his quadrants and buckets and a crybaby. It just ruins it. A great character doesn't have to be a protagonist. And that's what adds a colour to a great story.

I really love Eridan as a character, and I'd say he's one of my favorite characters in the entirety of homestuck. What I hate is that so many fans have reduced him to just a joke who wants to fill his quadrants and nothing else. He is so much more that that, and he didn't even get half the screentime as some of the other trolls. Sure, he made some mistakes, and he has his flaws but he's just a 13 year old kid under pressure to be a violent, ruthless killer that everyone expects him to be. He's just a kid.

This sounds like a song for what Eridan could have been. I bet somewhere out there in an alternate timeline, he was a really good person. Maybe the Eridan from Beforus was. But the alpha Eridan made pretty much the absolute worst choices at every opportunity and went way past redemption.
To be honest tho he had a pretty crappy life even as a noble, he spent most of his time feeding Feferi's lusus only to have her flake as his moirail the very moment they got into the session. Feferi said being his moirail was exhausting? I wonder how exhausting it must be spending years killing people to feed your crushes guardian only to have them crap on you after all your effort.
And then all of his friends pretty much neglected him (though he was kind of douchey, but it's not hard to see that is posturing for him), save for maybe Kanaya and Karkat a bit, and his own crush started flushing on someone else while neglecting him which would've created some strong feelings of envy and probably lead to Eridan and Sollux's rivalry in the first place... AND THEN Fef tried to kill him after that whole dueling thing.
I hold her preeeeetty responsible for Eridans outcome, she didn't have to date him but I felt like she did a crappy thing being moirails with him just up until she got into their session and feeding her lusus no longer mattered, also the fact she didn't even acknowledge him after that, you don't do that to your friends even if they are crushing on you and you're not interested. >= /

I've seen countless rich kids bring fancy rifles to their first shooting lesson, and the number of them who hit anywhere CLOSE to the target is quite low.

I loved Eridan from the start, honestly. It made me really sad when he lost hope in the group and was all "lets join jack!!!" I just wanted to shake him and say "CAN'T YOU SEE WHAT'S ABOUT TO HAPPEN?! Stoooop!" But...he's a fictional character in a different universe, so I couldn't :(

I actually kinda agree. Though most people don't react the way he did, most can identify with the rejection and pain he felt. Also, come on, prince of hope is pretty fuckin awesome to be.
Yes, he's a very dynamic and interesting person with an admirably memorable personality. Eridan possesses many of the traits that I adore in a person (including the genocide complex, actually), and for that, I can confidently say that Eridan Ampora is my #1 favorite character in all of Homestuck.
I agree. It's awful, what the fandom sees him as, when really, he's just a guy who cared very deeply for his friend, had his heart broken, and snapped due to jealousy. He really does deserve recognition and love for all the things he did for Feferi.

Cronus, Eridan, I love them (not just because I am aquarius too :3 ). They are awesome characters, badass, cool ... But I'm a bit disappointed of what Hussie made of them in the story, they deserve a better ending than just dying, being lonely forever and being treated by everyone as douches. I seriously hope a great come back for them (especially for Eridan), they need to show us more what they can do. We've seen every ghost trolls (as sprites or just ghosts) but not Eridan nor Feferi (I don't talk about EriSol or Fefeta, they are just jokes). It's not fair for them, we want to see them more !

God. It's always so sad. Eridan is honestly my favorite troll, mainly because I empathize with him so much. I'm in the same boat - No one really cares about me in THAT way at all, so I just end up hurt when I reach out. Then I get sad, and bitter, and angry. And people blame ME for it. I would like to point out how good of a character Eridan could have been if he had gotten a redemption arch. Not only was he strong as a person, he had a personality that a lot of fans tend to misinterpret and twist to make him out to be some idiotic needy doofus. But Eridan is a lot more than just March Drag and "wweh." He's a highblood, and one of the most powerful ones at that.
I'm being genuine and honest when I say he deserved better. And don't give me that, "But he killed Fef and Kanaya-"

It's normal for them, and a lot of fans hate on characters when they kill someone, yet it's normal for their race.

If anyone is interested, I was researching Eridan's character a while back for some characterization work and I noticed his personality traits line up quite nicely with a disorder called Narcissistic Personality Disorder, which would explain quite a few things about his behavior.

I'm going to make this very clear.
Eridan wasn't miserable. He was trying to survive in a world where survival was necessary, it was desperation that drove him to what he had done. I love Eridan, despite the fact that his heart was in the wrong place, he held strong. I can easily call him pitiful, because I truly pity him. He could have held out longer, without serving anyone in hopes of survival, but he didn't, and that is why he met his fate.
I'm sorry but I still hate how people justify his killing of Feferi and almost Sollux. Feferi could've handled things better with Eridan but still killing is not a justifiable response. I see people in the fandom who love the fact he killed someone who was arguably the love of his life and it's just sad...
Mainly because people hate Feferi for this situation, but what else was she supposed to do? Lie to him? Telling him the truth upfront was probably the best way to go with someone as emotional as he is.
I try not to make excuses for it I just don't like how he's suddenly not allowed a second chance to a few people.

My most favorite track! When I played Cronus in Homestuck when I first got to the Beforus trolls I was like "OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH!!!" and I literally had Cronus spinning in circles and dancing to this song for five minutes straight and didn't even stop there. Wow, the memories. I can't wait for the next update on Homestuck.

If you want to get technical, Eridan was betraying them all, so he was the one initiating the confrontation - and it was Sollux who was trying to protect them by fighting Eridan. But emotions were involved as well, so I do think Eridan acted partially out of spite, Sollux out of annoyance, and Feferi out of rage at Eridan's actions. It's never just one thing, and there's some sympathy to be found for Eridan who was kind of a mess to begin with, but overall I don't think he's just misunderstood.

As I was reading the part where Eridan kills Feferi and destroys the matriorb, I remember thinking that it was strange that his title was the Prince of Hope.
But later we learn that "prince" is "destroyer" and it all suddenly makes sense. In a way, he was expected to destroy their hope. He , too, fulfilled his title.
