How to be a "Genius" (or at least really smart): Have interests, be curious and observant, and then ardently pursue those curiosities, especially the ones that interest you the most, and learn, learn, learn. New answers present more questions to look into for more answers; so you can dive deeper into any curiosity, really. If an interest is lost in a topic, or if it feels like you've hit rock bottom with the curiosity you were previously interested in, that's normal as we change everyday. However, you might find new interesting curiosities, especially if you broaden your range and ways of living and learning. You could travel, read books, watch educational videos, become a protege, return to school and along the way, cultivate your imagination or train your mind to come up with new questions and answer those questions which seemed impossible to fathom, before. There is always something new to learn about the universe, whether it be internal or external. *The most important thing, I believe, is getting to know yourself, your desires, your interests, your curiosities and really, becoming a friend of yourself so that you can know yourself to the extent that you have an idea of what direction you want to focus your mental energy towards. Doing so, I think, can potentially eliminate any procrastination with what you may believe to be your passion because that's what really separates the "Geniuses" from the ordinary folk (The self knowledge, the passion, the focus, and the work).* It takes time as no one is born a genius and no one can know everything... Even so, everyone can become a master at something and I think that the people we call "Geniuses" were masters of curiosity and, possibly, imagination as well. *They used methods unique to themselves* to acquire vast databases of knowledge and in doing so consistently, their imaginations were empowered to go where no ordinary individual's mind could go. Ordinary people called them "Geniuses", but they're just as ordinary as anyone else lol. Over time, having gained knowledge and/or wisdom, cultivate your imagination and you might realize you know a lot more than you did before! Go master your passion and then find other interesting things to learn or something else to master. I agree with Einstein when he said imagination is more important than knowledge but you need knowledge to empower the imagination. Become a master of the thing you love to do because you only have one life and the time is ticking, my friend; you don't want to end up old and live in the past, ruminating over the things you could've done that would've let you be happy in your lifetime. Or, just live in ignorance and be happy, haha😄 *For the curious, ignorance is not bliss*

It is already in you, all you have to do is be capable of seeing it. Look and question anything that you haven't seen before, take it apart and find the main part that gives it life. Don't have a schedule but do what you love at the moment, then put it away and work on something else, but while you are doing anything your mind should be still working on all of it. I have a collection of writings from Leonardo Da Vinci. His own words, translated to English. Here are a few things that I want to add, based on those writings. 1. He did want to become famous. Early in life around his 20s, he wrote that he did want to become famous. To be remembered for creating something impressive. He also said he thought he would achieve that by developing flying machines. 2. He studied nature from early age. Most of his young life, as a child and teenager, were spent walking in nature. He would look closely at everything. The flowers. The birds. The clouds. The rivers. He spent lots of time observing, studying nature in action. Those many hours, days, years resulted in a vast amount of direct knowledge. We can also see those details in many of his drawings. These direct studies also led to ideas about natural processes and mechanics of motion. 3. He knew how to flatter his patrons. He wrote about this. Basically, you find out what they want, and tell them how you can deliver it too them. He also wrote about how to tell when the potential patron seems to be bored, and quickly move to another idea before you lose total interest. 4. Italy at the time was many small kingdoms. Run by kings and merchants of various types. He knew that they wanted fame and power. Thus, the two best selling points were battle machines, to defeat your opponent, and paintings which would glorify the family. And that's what they bought. 5. He classified himself as a "painter" first. Also, for him drawings were far more important than words. He wrote this several times. With a detailed drawing or painting, you could convey far more than any pages of text. I agree, and when I write my science books, I create numerous drawings for this same reason. There are many other interesting things from this collection of notes. Those are just a few.
Regarding energies, he talked about the processes of energies as "violence and death". Violence is essentially the objects in motion, the movement of the river, and so on. The "death" is when objects are still, at rest. The phrasing is interesting. Perhaps related to the fighting city-states of the era.
I just went to see an exhibition of 13 of Da Vinci's drawings a couple days ago. One of the notices stated that he learned about human anatomy and muscle structure etc by personally dissecting over 30 cadavers. It was great to see the works, 500 years old and amazing detail in them.
The way you edit your videos to include something else than you just talking at the camera is genius, it helps to remember the content. Civ V for military engineering? Heck yes!
I always want to be good at everything that I want for my life, not everything that humans can do. People said that we should not focus to be perfect but actually, I really want to live close to be perfect.
Anyone else notice the lighting setup change? There's no longer a hotspot on the top-left side of Tom's face. Makes the whole scene look more dramatic and I love it.
Hey Thomas i just wanna say thankyou for making this video out. These lessons really hit me especially talking about perfectionism that i generally suffer, making me abandon some of my commisioned work for the sake of perfectionism. This truly a good reminder for me personally, keep up the good work buddy, greetings from Indonesia. God bless
The hits just keep on coming. Such a mindful and thought provoking video, particularly the parts about knowing when you're wrong and embracing imperfection. We all need reminding of these qualities in the modern world. Thanks Thomas!
Love this video. I came out as a ambidextrous artest last year I'm also an accomplish catfisherman and qualified for worlds in archery.. . But just like DaVinci my gift is my flaw makes it hard for me to hold a job I don't like authority I can't just turn off my creativity and I jump from subject to subject all day I push to open my mind I got like 5 different paintings and pincel are going i fill like there is no end to one project so there no way to finish a project. I always give people credit for there work and never tell a lie... True genius only lies behind the truth...
From my own experience I question ‘present yourself based on what you want to become.’ I have very little interest in being a successful pianist and would much rather be a visual artist..but in practice, I find painting really boring, but I can sit practicing classical piano for 6 hours every day without ever having to motivate myself, I get into i deep level of flow and I love the activity..I have almost zero interest in performing though..but the work of making something of my skill (ie performing) from thousands of hours of practice is a small percentage of not being who I want to be..I don’t want to be a pianist, I don’t identify as a pianist at all..but my genius is that I devote my life joyfully in the practice of playing the piano
Hmm, while it's certainly nice to think that your best work is always ahead of you and you'll continue to get better and better with each project...that just doesn't seem to be the case, at least not for me. Many of my older past projects, across a full range of different areas, have turned out much better than my more recent projects. I can live with that. But I don't always expect to exceed, or even be able to meet, the same standards I set in the past. Linear progression is a lovely concept, but my journey at least seems to be characterized more by peaks and valleys.
Leonardo Da Vinci is the grearest person ever live. His an awesome artist, self taught, engineer, scientist, and a thinker. He is my favourite person ever!! Having art skill is so much complex compared to everything that when you great at it, it can translate the skills to other things.
I watched your video twice before reading the comment below where you explain that you forgot to define a T-shaped person. I feel better now. Thanks so much for clarifying that point. Great video!
Great timing, I was just reflecting this past week about how my interests are everywhere and I'm not appropriately focusing on anything. The concept of being a at-shaped person comes handy and makes a lot of sense, I'm going to explore it!
imo the learning curve has a logarithmic profile: you learn a lot in very few time at the very first steps, but then, going deeper and deeper, even a tiny improvement may costs you years. Maybe this is the reason why so many people love to learn all sort of skills: knowledge is one very good reason to walk this earth :)
Please watch Da Vinci’s Demons, it’s a great show and even though it’s totally fictional, it still shows how he inovated and it’s beautiful. Also, it’s the 500 years since his death (or birth, I don’t remember)
Really true point around perfectionism and setting constraints. Be OK with slight imperfections, there will always be room for improvement. I'll add that once you've completed a project, treat yourself! Even a chocolate bar can do wonders :)
Yes I agree Leonardo da vinchi is one of the best brain I have ever seen, and I also agree with you the creative people never stick with one thing they jump into the different different thigh the personality of da vinchi influence me lot
Leonardo was quoting an aphorism by Pope Pius II: tell me if anything was ever done.. It actually refers to the futility of achievements which are all undone over time: a sentiment akin to that of Shelley in OZYMANDIAS.
Maybe the problem isn't the desire. It might be that you simply need to organize what you want to prioritize. That's the main issue I have been having.
Good starting point, thank you!...0:00 - 0:10 --- been trying to crack this for a while now and I still haven't found the answers or set of practices and routines. If you or anyone else has any recommendations that dig a bit deeper, lemme kno!
8:11 wow that's me all the time. 1,000,000 ideas all the time. Leonardo Cleaning LLC is my company and My name is Divenchy. I respect Leonardo Da Vinci very much.
I don't think good enough trumps perfectionism, in fact, I think it's the exact opposite and that its a necessity to strive for perfection in whatever you are making, but the burden of that on a person is heavy so maybe instead of settling for only good enough and casting out perfectionism, do both. Have some projects you allow yourself to make perfect, while others can be good enough, so in that way, you can push yourself beyond your preconceived limitations.
It is better to finish something to the best of your ability is very true. I released my novel 9 months ago and I already know that if I were to rewrite it right now I could do it better, but that's the point. Constantly improve your work. What you make next should be better than what you just finished.

If the object of your work doesn't fit, immediately stop working on it.
Love life and what it has, this way you will do your best work.
Great video summary of the 5 rules - thank you Thomas 👍🙏🏼
And Leonardo da Vinci was in Assassin's Creed 2 ^^
My favorite character in the game!
I was excited to go grab footage from that game for B-roll of Milan, but then I remembered that you don't actually go to Milan in any AC game :(
And he touched Ezio's knee in Revelations.
He appears again in AC Brotherhood
Monster Mo sorry can you explain what are assassin's creed??.
Yahh
Seriously not trying to be a jerk, but I haven't watched your videos in a little bit and this was by far the least panic inducing one I've ever seen on this channel. My anxiety is a bit wild so it's just me, but I really like that you aren't talking at 100 mph as well as the chill background music. This was actually really relaxing, informative, and enjoyable.
The thing what are so important for genius: to show other people your understanding and explain your opinion. For that you need an experience.
God bless
There was something in this video that really resonated with me. Loved it! Your content is always getting better and better.
This was beautiful!
Da Vinci is such an amazing figure, very inspiring
Love this tips. We are capable of becoming geniuses if we put in time!
I really liked the production quality, choice of words, voice tone ... thank your for your valuable work
Da Vinci's most important quote centers on these words, "Learn how to see," and by that he means learn how to go beyond thinking.
Great vid! Also your voice has become even smoother and better!!
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing
9:38 recap
Leonardo Da Vinci is the grearest person ever live. His an awesome artist, self taught, engineer, scientist, and a thinker. He is my favourite person ever!! Having art skill is so much complex compared to everything that when you great at it, it can translate the skills to other things.
Hitting that like button for naturally squeezing in a Freiza reference ever so briefly. Very impressive
I watched your video twice before reading the comment below where you explain that you forgot to define a T-shaped person. I feel better now. Thanks so much for clarifying that point. Great video!
only be perfect if perfection is needed to satisfy the function/purpose
Great timing, I was just reflecting this past week about how my interests are everywhere and I'm not appropriately focusing on anything. The concept of being a at-shaped person comes handy and makes a lot of sense, I'm going to explore it!
Rule 5: Be wary of perfectionism
*Perfect Cell has entered the chat*
Seeing how Gohan absolutely owned him, this comment makes a lot of sense.
imo the learning curve has a logarithmic profile: you learn a lot in very few time at the very first steps, but then, going deeper and deeper, even a tiny improvement may costs you years.
Maybe this is the reason why so many people love to learn all sort of skills: knowledge is one very good reason to walk this earth :)
This was a beautifully crafted video. Thanks for the relevant reminder on perfectionism.
Awesome !!!
Love 💘 Leonardo Davinci's work !!!
Please watch Da Vinci’s Demons, it’s a great show and even though it’s totally fictional, it still shows how he inovated and it’s beautiful. Also, it’s the 500 years since his death (or birth, I don’t remember)
I Want to become a Theoretical Physicist, Mathematician, Philosopher and Poet
And I want to be a doctor, a war veteran, an actor, a singer, a quantum physicist, an artist and a philosopher 😬
Internet has made everything easier.... So you can become all that.....BTW my list is similar just add Author.
Johnny Sins
NO MY DICK IS BIGGER!
Shadow Eat You followed his suggestion of presenting yourself as who you wish to become?
This man just explained my dream in first 11 seconds of the video
I really liked this video! Your content is just consistently really good and useful without unnecessary fillers. I appreciate that!
I love Leonardo Da Vinci!!
I read the book. TRULY RECOMMEND IT
Really true point around perfectionism and setting constraints.
If only she was there to tell him,"Does this spark joy?"
nicely done video Tom !
I have the same problem- I want to do everything not just one thing 🤦🏿♀️ 😂
Maybe the problem isn't the desire. It might be that you simply need to organize what you want to prioritize. That's the main issue I have been having.
Eloquently explained.
I loved that book! Nice evolution with the fill-in-the-blank summary!
This was so helpful, and I loved the Freeza reference
Great video
Me: Yes i want to do that
My adhd: sure buddy
Thomas: “unhealthy obsession”
Me: Hits the like button
❤️
Amazing the great Leonardo da Vinci. A totally genius. 🔥🔥🔥
You can never be perfect. Just really good. It's the law of the universe.
It is better to finish something to the best of your ability is very true. I released my novel 9 months ago and I already know that if I were to rewrite it right now I could do it better, but that's the point. Constantly improve your work. What you make next should be better than what you just finished.

Highly recommend the book from Isacsoon. Currently in the middle of it.
