vanessa gonzalez If you like the sax in songs like this, you may be interested in checking out songs by "INXS". They were an early 80s to mid 90s band that loved using sax in their pieces. The lead singer has an amazing voice as well. Let me know if you check them out!
vanessa lezama the best ?? Do you listen to only like two albums each year and nothing else? Like this is pretty good I guess but the best of the year? Even speaking in terms of "top 40" tracks? Hell no
After a few years of homelessness and terrible abuse everywhere I landed, I went to stay with a man who was gentle and kind to me, ever patient where others had been extremely ugly to me. After a few nights he played this song for me. I do wish I knew him when we were young. We might have made some big noise in the woods stomping down family trees together. I hope for him only the very best and that we'll meet again sooner than later. My time with good ppl has been brief but precious moments that keep me moving forward hoping for more. Thank you for everything, Day.
I don't listen to the radio often, but when I heard "Wish I Knew You" I just couldn't believe that I had to hear it over and over! The seven minute version has great saxophone solos. Today, I have listened to it a dozen times again.

The fact that the singer said it’s open for anyone’s interpretation is awesome. Just started talking to my daughter that I never got to know for 20 years. It’s amazing!
Such a beautiful video and song. It’s never too late. For those of you thinking your life is over or you’re feeling like you’ll never get what you truly want; Just know that it’s never too late. Get out there now and somehow go after everything you desire. You can do it.

no matter whats going on in my life at the momen,t this song makes everything better even if only for a couple minutes....it make me feel like everythings gonna be ok. Hey...whatever gets me through the day
This is literally me and my beautiful wife. We met when we were 17 and I didn't have the courage to ask her out. 20 years later I found her again and didn't hesitate. Now we have a wonderful daughter and the rest of our lives to share the 20 years we missed apart.
I’ll never forget the moment where my close friends and I were sitting staring out into the city lights while this song was playing. We shared this silence that felt so profound and although no words were exchanged, we could all feel each other’s emotions. I know this is a more up beat song but every time I hear the chorus it reminds me of this moment and makes me want to cry. Not from sadness but just from the beauty in that moment. Seriously a great song and I know I’ll be coming back here to remind myself of that time.
It's not about her.... it's about finally finding who you really are and being comfortable with who you were and wishing you could tell your younger self that it's always been ok
okay, maybe it's me but I didn't get that from the song...I thought the song was about not being afraid to finally tell someone you love them...having a bit of regret...
Me, too, and I kind of like "moon" better, fits with the "high" theme and it's like they're just two people, alone and together in space, away from it all...
Now THIS is how you make a music video! You have two lovers separated by time reuniting in their twilight years. But at the same time the phasing in and out of their younger self's remind us no matter how old you get, you are still young at heart but also carry your regrets from years past. The other classmates at the reunion show us that you never lose your sense of fun, the man spiking the punch like he still 16 is a really nice touch. I also love the effect at the beginning when the man sees his love for the first time at the dance and glides towards her as if on a cloud.
@@rossogden9920 - That sure is where it took me! At the start, when the man looked at his lost-love's photo, it took me right back to the late 60s, when, as I found out much later, a good friend from high school wanted to ask me to senior prom but was too afraid, because he was black and I was white. Unfortunately, he died young, so we never got our happy ending. I loved that the couple in the video did, as did all the other kids whose relationships were forbidden fruit back then.
Sheesh, anyone who says no good music comes out anymore nowadays probably thinks that because they spend all their time listening to music from back in the day. There is SO freaking much to hear and enjoy in today's music you have to be living in self-imposed exile to the olden days not to find joy out here! FGS, you're on the internet, you're on youtube...go on an expedition, follow links, track down unknown artists and whole new worlds - it's all here. And those golden oldies aren't going anywhere, they'll still be there on your playlist when you need 'em.
Best Indie/alt rock song I've heard in a while. Modern indie/alt rock bands take lessons! Instrumentally and lyrically this is way better than much of the modern indie stuff you hear on the radio.
Heard this song in June, Alicia played it over and over again. She told me she heard this with my son. Didn't listen to the words. Now I understand. The burdens she had to carry were immense. And I let her, my son, their children, her family and SO MANY MORE. I do not understand why. But I do know I am to blame. I never believed I could miss someone so much. I do not know what really happened. Am not ready for that information. I just understand my part. There is nothing I can ever do to change it. I wish I could. I can forgive other's. I can't forgive myself. No one deserves disrespect, laziness, selfishness, indisivenes, and I can't change the circumstances. I will change me. For my son.
This song defines my relationship with my boyfriend. It's our song. We met in high school and reunited two years ago. He was selling records at a record show. He recognized me and said my name which kind of took me by surprise. Then he told me who he was and I was blown away. Talk about a glow up. The bad thing was I had a boyfriend at the time. That relationship fell apart. Then he connected on New Year's Eve. I told him I would regret it if we didn't kiss at midnight. That's exactly what we did and we've been together ever since. ❤
For whatever the reason I don’t know this song made me cry my eyes out idk why maybe thinking about all those chances I had back when I was younger and never just asked them out…

Wow. I never realized how this song can be an amazing love song and also a sad story about the right love, at the wrong time. I learned the latter, today. Love the song even more.
I'm also so sorry for your loss. I'm 65 years old and heard this song for the first time a year ago and was struck by how true it is for people my age. I meet someone now and think wow I wish I'd had the benefit of knowing you longer
I heard this song and of course thought of all the people I wish I knew when I was young. Then I started to really think about the lyrics and I felt a sense that I was singing this song to myself. I wish I knew Me when I was young. I wish I could’ve been the person I am now when I was young. I wish I could’ve accepted myself for who I was when I was young (we could’ve got so high) This song goes out to all the young girls that are strangers to themselves. Get to know yourself. Share your mood. Cuz you’ll be in the bright lights someday and you’ll be confident with who you are. Get on it now. Time is precious
I can say I knew me when I was young, but very much appreciate your comment. The thing I wasn't able to put my finger on was the dichotomy of my personality though I could feel the shift between my heart and my intellect. I'm sure it would have made a difference if I could have found a way to use both at the same time, but we can't turn back time. Our world is now filled with young people asking the question, "who am I?". That is disturbing to me. We are who we are and if we think too much about it, then we are not.
Wow! Reading your comment made me realize so many things about myself ❤ thank you so much for it! Have had a hard time trying to accept myself for who I am since I have memory, your words warmed my heart and it definitely made me think about “time is precious” thanks! ❤️
I turn 18 next month, and everyday I wish I still knew my younger self, who has hid himself after all I have went through, behind a wall I can't get past.
When you work in the public you often interact with people you wouldn't normally interact with, and for me, when I was in my early 20s, it was with this woman who I worked with (although in a different department) who is about 10 years my senior, and I had the hugest crush on her. We ended up becoming friends over the 6 or 7 years we worked together and became very trusting of each other with our personal lives. This song always makes me think of her even years later. Although this doesn't particularly have to do with the song, it does make me wish I was born a few years earlier to potentially have been able to have a stronger connection with her.
I love seeing everyone’s unique connections to this song and reading your stories 💜 For me, I don’t think I have a way to relate to it personally, but this song is extremely danceable to me. Not many songs make me want to drop everything and dance 🕺🏽💃🏽
When you meet them, still young... the one.. you wish you’d have met them sooner. It’s like they’ve always been there. This song came on my drive home from work, and I started crying... What I wouldn’t give to have met him when I was a teenager. Beautiful song, so beautiful.
Everyone loves the sax(I do too), but it's the organ that truly seperates this song from something typical. Great vibe and then a serious Procal Harem style organ on the chorus. Brilliantly put together. Great band.
Because it touches everything that is good about us... you see the old guys looking bad as if they are about to do something awful but it is made clear that back in the past and in present they are just basic rebel wannabees and in the meantime they think this whole interracial thing is boring.
Tarkus i think people are more comfortable with interracial couples, not 'bored'. maybe English isn't your first language, so i won't bash your adjectives. the old dudes were just reliving their youth and enjoying themselves-i don't think they were ever wannabes or rebels, just stupid kids having fun. the song definitely touches the nostalgia of the main couple, who probably liked each other a lot (and still do) but couldn't date back in the day. they're making up for lost time, and reminiscing how things might've been different if they could have dated without the social stigmas of the time.
Honestly one of the best songs ever for anyone that's no longer young Also this video legit makes me smile the whole time. What a cute wonderful and bittersweet song
I wish we had more songs and media in general about things like this! It makes me feel better about the prospect of getting old. There will always be joy to find if you can put yourself out there.
Been searching for this for the last 4 years - Only place I ever hear this song is in the grocery store, and it's never loud enough to make out any of the lyrics, but the tune keeps getting stuck in my head.

this song man... best I've heard in years. that sax is amazing!!
vanessa gonzalez If you like the sax in songs like this, you may be interested in checking out songs by "INXS". They were an early 80s to mid 90s band that loved using sax in their pieces. The lead singer has an amazing voice as well. Let me know if you check them out!
Ooooh, yeah! I was in love with the sound of that sax in INXS! definitely check them out!
If you like sax then look up Mr.Saxobeat.
vanessa lezama naw if you like sax look up griz
vanessa lezama the best ??

They totally knocked it out of the park with this song. Everything about it is amazing. Saxophone, electric piano, those bass grooves, smooth voice.
those bass grooves are a sonic orgasm for me
This song is perfect. I want more songs like this.

One of the very few love songs I enjoy.

The one you complained about at the time but now realize how many good people and good things were in it.
That is the TRUTH! makes my heart ache for a chance to "go back" when I listen to it. REGRET is the one emotion, you can't EVER "get over, with time"🥺
This is one of those songs you don't realize how much you like until it randomly gets stuck in your head and starts to narrate your life.

@@kaykaub2113 You said it and I agree : )
It's not about her.... it's about finally finding who you really are and being comfortable with who you were and wishing you could tell your younger self that it's always been ok
Hahaha, oh man
It was about her, but what she meant to you, not how superficial you felt.
okay, maybe it's me but I didn't get that from the song...I thought the song was about not being afraid to finally tell someone you love them...having a bit of regret...
They weren't "allowed" to be with each other as kids because of the times, wishing things could've been different.
Kyle Skinner shut up smartass..you perciece it that way. And everyone has there own opion on how they personally see it so shut up.
I've loved this song...but I never watched the vid...and now I'm tearing up. I am biracial ...and this is beautiful.
What a great line "We could share my mood" I wish I had written it,
I thought he said at first..share my moon..
Me, too, and I kind of like "moon" better, fits with the "high" theme and it's like they're just two people, alone and together in space, away from it all...
Ronald Hopkins I thought it was share my moves but that's kinda gay
I thought he said moon as well. Lol
Ronald Hopkins you just did 😉
Now THIS is how you make a music video!
Si hermosa pase lo que pase a quien amaste con locura jamás lo dejaras de amar.......... Bogotá Colombia good look
I don't think they were ever lovers. It was 1965. Mixed race relationships weren't a thing back then. They most likely were 'wanna be' lovers.

These guys and Driftwood Gypsy... Not soliciting, just like good music.
Sheesh, anyone who says no good music comes out anymore nowadays probably thinks that because they spend all their time listening to music from back in the day. There is SO freaking much to hear and enjoy in today's music you have to be living in self-imposed exile to the olden days not to find joy out here!

Best Indie/alt rock song I've heard in a while. Modern indie/alt rock bands take lessons! Instrumentally and lyrically this is way better than much of the modern indie stuff you hear on the radio.
funny cause i heard this on the radio first about 2 days ago. then i realized how late i was to discover this song and even the band itself
For my son.
The amount of times I've listened to this over and over again is seriously concerning.

[Verse 1]
You shine like a star
You know who you are
You're everything beautiful
She's hot, hot like the sun
The loneliest one
Still everything beautiful
Well, I'll be goddamned
You're standing at my door
We stayed up in the city
Until the stars lost the war
So Friday night, Holy Ghost
Take me to your level
Show me the one I need the most
I need the most
[Chorus]
I wish I knew you when I was young
We could've got so high
Now we're here, it's been so long
Two strangers in the bright lights
Oh, I hope you don't mind
We can share my mood, yeah
Two strangers in the bright lights
I wish I knew you
I wish I knew you
Oh, I wish I knew you when I was young
[Verse 2]
Truth, it's all that you need
You bury that seed
It's everything beautiful
That sound comes from the underground
It's all inside you now
It's everything beautiful
But what you, what you, what you, what you running from?
And they got, they got, they got, they got you on the run
So Friday night, Holy Ghost
Take me to your level
Show me the one I need the most
I need the most
[Chorus]
I wish I knew you when I was young
We could've got so high
Now we're here, it's been so long
Two strangers in the bright lights
Oh, and I hope you don't mind
We can share my mood, yeah
Two strangers in the bright lights
I wish I knew you
I wish I knew you
Oh, I wish I knew you when I was young
[Bridge]
Maybe we can share my mood
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Maybe we can share my mood
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Maybe we can share my mood
Whoa, whoa, whoa
[Chorus]
I wish I knew you when I was young
We could've got so high
Now we're here, it's been so long
Two strangers in the bright lights
Oh, and I hope you don't mind

I'm also so sorry for your loss. I'm 65 years old and heard this song for the first time a year ago and was struck by how true it is for people my age. I meet someone now and think wow I wish I'd had the benefit of knowing you longer
I'm 59 yrs old and this song takes me back to 1981!!
I heard this song and of course thought of all the people I wish I knew when I was young. Then I started to really think about the lyrics and I felt a sense that I was singing this song to myself. I wish I knew Me when I was young. I wish I could’ve been the person I am now when I was young. I wish I could’ve accepted myself for who I was when I was young (we could’ve got so high)
This song goes out to all the young girls that are strangers to themselves.

Alan Allos i keep replayin this song
I heard it for the first time yesterday and Im so addicted!! ☺
This is a beautiful song
These lyrics really hit home, I'm listening to this in tears now.
Honestly one of the best songs ever for anyone that's no longer young
