  • The orange rim can be rotated precisely 180 degrees forward and backward by hand thanks to the black spring and green stoppers.
It rotates on three pink ball bearings so the frictional torque is very small.
The black spring helps the rim reach the two end positions through a snapping motion.
The red arrow represents the human force exerted on the rim.

    Bistable mechanism 👍🙂

I am struggling to design a similar mechanism, but which will require less angular rotation by force before it begins to rotate by itself. I would like to rotate the orange rim 45 degrees, and then it will rotate the remaining 135 by itself. And the same in the opposite direction, 45 degrees by force, and then the remaining 135 by itself. Maybe you will be interested to design such a mechanism?
Anyway thank you for the huge amount of videos, very useful for an inspiration!

But the preciseness of 180 degree is still controlled by the locating precision of dowel pins right?

Sir I want to ask about the spring ends on which the spring rotates and maintain the tangent connection with the circular pin.
    1. Spring was generated by the inventor design module in Assembly formate? Then the ends were modeled and then assembled with Inventor generated spring. Am I right?
    2. The constraints/joints which is used between spring ends and circular pins?

If you use Autodesk Inventor, please download this video's Inventor files to learn how to create and assemble tension springs in Autodesk Inventor.
The download link is in the video description.

This design was made at the request of a Turkish university teacher.
It is used for a mechanical calculating device to perform multiplication and division calculations.
