If the herbivore buffalos had human intelligence they would be never be killed. In their perspective lions are threat that isolate them and kill them or take their babies so they act cautious by nature trying to save their team just in case if there is another trap.

They don’t, lioness do 85-90% of the hunting while either the male sleeps or protects the pride, but when a male lion is in action there’s no doubt if they need to they can Hunt better than the lioness.

this lion was likely not a part of a pride. he was likely a nomad who had no females to hunt for him. the reasons why males who are a part of a pride don't hunt has nothing to do with laziness. it has to do with their huge manes which give them away to prey. also, the male needs to stay behind to guard the cubs and protect the territory. lionesses are better hunters within a pride.

there's a couple, most impressive one for me was a female I saw years back, took on a grown ass cape head on, must've been tanzania or kenya I forget which. the cape was game too, tryna gore the lioness, but if the video is to be believed she was one of a pride specialized in taking down buffalo... so she avoided the horns as graceful as nothin you ever seen and took down the beast. I'm still in awe.

Male lions are capable of taking down a buffalo by themselves, most of the time they are just lazy because they know the lionesses will take care of that.

A full grown Cape buffalo can get up to 2,200 pounds, but this one was a good half ton which still ain't easy.

I've been watching lions since I was a little boy I'm 35 now & im amazed by this lion. To take on a buffalo on his own while the buffalo herd is coming at him. This seemed like a really strong healthy lion that's been eating good with a strong pride that just had all the right things going for him & knows who he is & is confident of his status in his home...amazing!!!! This seems like the normal for him & his brother like they've been dominating those lands. He knew exactly what he was going to do. His posture & demeanor said it all.

That's his coalition partner, they are not related actually. Both lost their brothers and were lone males who joined up. They are called the thanda impi males and have territory in the Manyeleti Game Reserve.

This is probably the best video I’ve seen that displays how most of these buffaloes are truly taken down; not by dragging them to the ground and biting them until they bleed out but by choking them.

-screaming stops because it physically cannot due to windpipe being clamped off
-lion adjusts grip and for a split second you hear the buffalo gasp
-buffalo is trying to breathe and scream through all this but literally cannot

-gasping reflex kicks in and you see the mouth gaping open and tongue curling
-the last of the body’s strength is spent reflexively kicking in a final attempt to escape
