    Great video! I am fairly knowledgable with routers but this one is very advanced. Your video helped me to better understand the interface of my router. The reason I came across it though is because I have an issue with Bootcamp on my Mac.
    When I had a Netgear router, I did not have speed problems on OS X side or Windows 10. When I bought the 11000, my speeds were still great on the OS X side, but terrible os Windows 10. My ISP provides 960 down and 35 up. I am getting about 700 down and 35 up wirelessly on OS X. Switching to windows I get 6 (that 6 is correct. no missing zeros or typos) down and 35 up.
    I recently moved and installed my old EAX 80 extender for greater coverage. I set up one of the bands on the Netgear extender as a separate name for a test. My Windows side of my Mac is fast again (close to OS X side) even though I am using the extender with my 11000 router. Any idea why this may be happening?
    Again, thank you for this great walkthrough!

    I just got Att fiber am using there Modem but this router, Any setup recommendations for the fastest speeds?

    • @EclipseReviews
      @EclipseReviews  3 года назад +2

      For gaming I would recommend enable there 'Game Acceleration' options. (e.g. Game Boost, WTFast) .
      For normal use, I would switch off the 'Traffic Analyzer' and switch on only when you want to see statics on your network. Also changing the DNS setting to Cloudflare / Google / OpenDNS, these can do Parental controls, block spyware/malware sites so you router does not have to process this.
      But to be honest I have 30 devices connected to my router and some with constant uploading and transferring data and the CPU never goes over 60% across all cores. The RAM is around 69% used with OpenVPN on as well.
      I hope this helps a little.

    Hello. I have a quite special question that even the so called technicians of ASUS cannot answer. My ISP provided 2 x 1G internet connections. Each of these 2 connections has its own unique IP. My existing router (i.e. NOT this AX11000) has 2 WAN ports and so my current configuration is one 1G line to one WAN port of the router, meaning both WAN ports are filled. In the setup page of the router, it allows me to "bond" these 2 WANs into one to become a 2G connection (they call it load balance). I then connect the router to the PC using 2 LAN cables. On the PC side, these 2 LAN cables are plugged to a special LAN card which also enable bonding and load balancing. As such, I can enjoy the internet at 2G speed. Speedtest and Fast results are around 19XX Mbps.
    Now I am considering doing the same thing with the AX11000. My plan is to use its 1G WAN port and also use 1 of its 4 LAN ports as a WAN port (my existing router can let me choose a LAN port as the secondary WAN (called it "WAN 2") in the setup page). Then bond them together to become a 2G internet connection. After that, I will connect the PC and the router using the router's 2.5G port. My understanding is that the 2.5G port of the AX11000 can serve as either WAN or LAN (and so I will use it as a LAN port). My new PC also has a 2.5G LAN port, meaning I no longer need the special LAN card anymore.
    My problem is that the AX11000 isn't cheap and so I wish someone can enlighten me whether it can do what I am planning. Thank you!

    • @EclipseReviews
      @EclipseReviews  3 года назад

      Hi, the AX11000 only has one 2.5Gb port the rest are 1Gb. So even if you plug in the modem in to the router's 2.5Gb port then plug in your computer to the other LAN ports maximum you are going to get is 1Gb in speed. The only other way I can think of is perhaps use a switch from the modem, but this will only work with limited makes.

    RT-AX86U vs GT-AX11000 , for pure gaming which one better? is there a any difference between them in gaming features ?

    • @EclipseReviews
      @EclipseReviews  3 года назад +1

      Both use the WTFast technology feature within the routers, if you are using ethernet to connect and play with no other devices using bandwidth to the router I would say that there would be not much difference. But, if you have several demanding devices like IP Cameras, Multiple people upload/downloading, then the GT-AX11000 would be much better as it has the faster CPU and 2.5 GBe port if you can take advantage of this and the extra 5Ghz WiFi band.

      The only other things that can affect a higher ping is a bad WiFi connection, security software (Mcafee,Avast,Norton) firewalls as they inspect packets.
      From what I believe any amounts below a ping of 20ms is considered excellent 👍

    Is there a way to change the MTU of this router?

    • @EclipseReviews
      @EclipseReviews  3 года назад

      There is two places to change the MTU:
      1. WAN Port MTU Menu options: Advanced Settings > WAN > Internet Connection (Tab) > Account Settings
      2.LAN Port MTU Menu options: Advanced Settings > LAN > Switch Control (Tab) > Jumbo Frame

MTU does not show up when I change the Jumbo Frame to enable. Or do you mean just put it on enable? Sorry but this is way beyong my knowledge base, never heard of Jumbo Frame before.

    Hi, can I use this on none WiFi 6 supported devices?

  • @liameneuk
    @liameneuk 3 года назад

On the PC side, these 2 LAN cables are plugged to a special LAN card with 2 LAN ports. This special LAN card also allows bonding and load balancing.
Thank you!

      Hi, you are lucky to have such good internet speeds.
      I have just reviewed the setting on the router, you can connect 1 ISP WAN connection to the ASUS Routers Primary WAN port. Then choose ‘Enable Dual WAN’ which will allow you to select the Secondary WAN port on the router (e.g. LAN 1,2,3,4). You then can choose the ‘Dual WAN Mode’ which in your case would be ‘Load Balance’. So from the options I see you should be able to do what you want on the AX11000, but on the FAQ from the settings page here on Dual WAN: www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1011719. It says “ Note: The system will separate Internet sessions based on the load between the Primary WAN and Secondary WAN, instead of the overall bandwidth or overall data rate.” So not sure if this actually saying if you for example run a speed test it will just use the bandwidth of one 1Gb connection and not bond the connection like you have now.
      I will try and see if I can try it out on my router this weekend and let you know 100%

      @@EclipseReviews Thanks for the detailed reply. After I submitted my above post, I have done some googling and found that a newer model is on the horizon: AXE-11000 and so I will wait for that. Unfortunately, this new AXE model will only become available in a region as soon as its government approves using 6Ghz for Wifi 6E and so it might be US-only at launch.

      @@EclipseReviews HI - Have you tried to see if the ASUS actually "bond" the 2 ISP connection into one? Does it then output the combined bandwidth via the 2.5G port? Really eager to know as I'm going to set it up this way. THanks
