Nice work, man! You won yourself a subscriber! I hope that the boat is treating you well! You're so right about the 2.3 OHC. Great engine for the money~
basically, all i/o engines are bone stock automobile engines that recieve specific leak proof and spark proof accessories. plus brass freeze plugs and performance oriented camshaft. I done many conversions and all have been successfull, my approach is to use closed cooling circuit as much as possible and install an oversized raw water pump, most I/O pumps are basically marginal so with a bit of degradation, overheatiing problen arises rather fast. very good video.
Kind of a pain. DMV gave me the previous registered address and I had to mail him a certified letter, if he didn't respond within 3 months I think they do the transfer. He responded and mailed me the title. It was a pretty weird experience. DMV was almost zero help, and I had to pay for his address
I’m putting this engine in a river jetboat up in Alaska. Did you notice any performance differences between carbureted vs fuel injected? How did the project turn out?
I bought the boat pre-damaged, so I never got to experience the carb engine on the water. The EFI version is good for about 35 miles per hour. It's not worth the headache, just stick with the carb.
35mph is all you would have gotten with the carbed version due to the outdrive gearing. You’ve gained reliability and smooth start and running, which I’d love to have with my Capri 2.3!! I’d say it was well worth your time!!
@@Ericsson_Construction As long as the person installing it is competent then you are dead on. But that swap is not for the faint of heart! It's a lot of work.
I’ve swapped my OMC 2.3l for another OMC 2.3l when my original ate it’s crank bearings, and your right - it’s a lot of work! Let alone swapping a different motor altogether, but many have contemplated this exact swap and I’m glad to see someone did it when everyone else says it can’t be done, so cudos, bro, great work!! I’m considering swapping in the 4.0l out of my Explorer, which would mean fabricating exhaust manifolds and adapters for the outdrive coupler. Reason why is I suspect broken piston rings as I have fuel in the oil and if I’m pulling the motor again, something better is going in. As you know, a tig welder and the ability to use it is a wonderful thing! Excellent video, nice work!!! I’d love to see an update on this next time you take it out.
just a heads up your gonna fry those bearings reason being is a marine engine has marine bearings crank cam block heads and ect boats run at high rpm those parts are not designed to run at high rpm you could be doing 55 on the road only doing 1500 rpms on a boat you'll be doing 45 at 4000 for hours on end you'll either blow a head gasket or throw a rod I know this because I had a project boat and an s10 4.3 block it lasted no more than a summer
Hey I know this video is a year old but just in case you still have the boat, I'll let you know that primer bulbs are not Coast Guard approved for an inboard setup such as this. Starters, alternators and carbs also have to be marine spec to be legal. Awesome project!
I don't have any videos up, but thing runs great, and starts up instantly! I love it! It only goes about 35mph, but that's plenty. Supposed to take it out tomorrow.
@@StrangeGarage hey Dr. I got it running finally I had to put more starter fluid in it. I ran 5 gallons of antifreeze in it and bog it down will that work for the winnter? Thanks for the concern I will keep in touch with you my friend...
@@johncrape920 Man, that's awesome!!! Antifreeze should do it. I've honestly never winterized a boat, I'm new to boats, but that sounds right. I would run it a while though to make sure it gets into all the nooks and crannys!
Just so I understand, the motor turns but wont start? That's really common when the motors dont run very often. A little starter fluid should get you fixed up. If that doesn't help it may need the carb torn apart and cleaned. Those are great engines, so it should be easy to get her going.
Sooo.... o2 sensors? How are you going to use carb exhaust manifolds on an efi and still incorporate the o2 sensors? Your not, right? I dont want to give you to much shit for it but that is a huge issue. You need them to set fuel trims, otherwise it will run fat and you'll have terrible fuel economy, as well as just pollute like crazy. If you did find a way to make it work I'm sure there are alot of people interested in how but I'm guessing there is a reason for no update videos. Btw, great message about safety, but the little extinguisher is comical. You should really consider getting a real one and put that one back in the barbie play house.
Boat actually rips just fine. It's just cold blooded as a result of the lack of fuel trims. It seriously spins like a top when it's up to temp. Clocked it at 35 MPH gps. I have a rather large fire extinguisher on the boat, but I didn't want to hold it for the whole PSA.
Need a boat update!

very good video.
Any update on this project. Really interesting
Strange Garage I’ve left several comments on all 3 videos with the boat. Were you able to install the O2 sensor
Hey Strange, I love those EFI Ranger Engines. Reliable as heck.
+Ford's Tool Reviews Seriously one of my favorite engines (I've owned 7 rangers now, I better love them). That's the main reason I bought the boat!
What did you end up doing for the trailer since you didn’t have the paperwork... im going thru a similar situation

@@Ericrp119tube The DMV gave me the form, I really do not remember unfortunately. Sorry man.
@@StrangeGarage all good thanks
Another great video man, really enjoyed the build just wish there was more lol
+Kelly Dale There's more coming. I'm always working on something. What did you want to see?
yep. . . what happened? where's the boat?
Pretty cool ..I like the idea

Did you ever get the O2 sensor installed I saw the last video of you and the boat on the water but no sign of a O2.

Good stuff man, what did you make on your 3d printer, the orange an blue things?
Ted H I'm experimenting with making pipes and pipe couplers. Trying to make parts to fit together. That thing takes forever so it's a slow process.
Any updates??

Strange Garage I’d love to see an update. I know you’ve had to do some restoration/upgrades. Would be great content!
I can't get my boat started I need to winterize it soon
What's happening when you try to start it man?
I tried priming it I tried started fluid just a little though
im waitig for the video saying I should have read my comments about why this wouldnt work lol
It did work.
Your a dam GENIUS!
Hey strange I just subscribed to you
You are sooo talented.
