Maxima was originally a top of the line trim for the 1981 Datsun 810. For 1982, the 810 name was dropped in favor of Maxima. By the 1985 model year, the Datsun name was dropped entirely in favor of the name Nissan, which had been introduced alongside the Datsun moniker. All 3 went out around 40K-80K miles I believe. Every year Nissan will tell you, "this CVT is new and totally improved." I'll avoid CVT from Nissan 100% of the time now. We were just a couple of thousand over warranty and Nissan would do absolutely nothing about it. Avoid Nissan CVT at all cost. I think it was around $4500. I have the 2023 Maxima SR...for the money, it's one of the best, sharpest, nicest riding cars out there! I hate small cars; this one has plenty of room, very comfortable (and, still fairly tight) & excellent power in "Sport Mode". Just a pleasure to drive it daily and still turn heads! However, what do I trade it in for next? I've been down the Altima road, great cars, but after driving this beast, I want more...LOL

Really surprised you don’t like how the Maxima looks. I think it’s the best looking Maxima of all time and it’s really held up! I had a 2016 for a full 5 years (longest I’ve ever owned any car) and the car maintained like new, only thing I ever changed was 1 battery right at the end and some oil changes.I sold it to get the TLX Type S in August of 2021. Still have and love the TLX.

The interior on the 8th gen is pretty great tbh. Only thing that held that car back was the CVT and even that was no where near as bad as the CVT in the 6th and 7th gens. The Xtronic in the Maxima and the CVT in the civics will change a lot of peoples minds about the CVT being that bad… the rubber band feel is pretty much gone from them.

Didn’t realize this car was still alive 😮. Why is this vehicle in the conversation with the GV70? The Genesis is a luxury automaker. That center stack looks very 2004 btw. Shouldn’t this vehicle be in the conversation (at the bottom) with Camry, Accord, Arteon & Malibu? It’ll probably do well in the rental car fleet.

@@ItsChrisWorld Those vehicles have 4 bangers now but like you said at one time at least the Toyota and Honda had 6 bangers for quite a while. The Maxima has been marketed as a 4 door sports sedan ever since it started sliding through downtown streets in Nissan ads. I agree that it’s been a sport sedan but currently I don’t see any such pedigree that makes it outshine those other vehicles. I definitely don’t see where it’s on par with the G70 or any of the other luxury sport sedans, many of which are powered by 4 cylinder engines. It’s got a huge following though. Same for the Altima and 300 sports cars It’s awesome that there are so many choices that everyone can have something that fits their needs like a glove.

That dated interior by the dashboard, gauges and even infotainment screen from 6 years ago. I can see the point if it was around $36-39k but not now. I bet some dealers will still trying to mark up on the MSRP with their stupid add-ons.
