"Just listen to me out there." That's basically what Bret Hart told Stone Cold for their match at WM13, and it was a classic. It's a shame we never got a match with Bret and Eddie. Both top-tier talents.
The only problem I could see with that match is that it would've been so technically sound that a lot of people would call it boring and talk down on it just for that. Would be an amazing performance and such a great show, but yea haters would never shut up about it
My 5 yo son likes to play 2K with me and will choose Rey Mysterio 97 Halloween Havoc character with the purple suit. Rey still influencing the next gen.
Eddie Guerrero always had amazing matches! In '95, Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko for the ECW TV Title, AMAZING match to a time limit draw. Dudes were going so hard they didnt get a chance to take the match home cuz they kept trading spot for spot. It was so awesome to watch!!
@@cedrickcarsonI don't know if I believe that, I have seen exactly two opinions on Dean Malenko. 1. I don't know who that is. 2. He did not get nearly the spotlight he deserved for his skills.
I want to believe Eddie new Rey didn’t want to lose the mask and so he convinced WCW to switch the results. Like he might’ve been the biggest cheater in the ring, but from what I hear he was a really nice guy outside of it.
They both speak about it it in their books. Eddie did try to change management's mind but they wouldn't budge. Rey said the same thing and almost didn't do the show.
@@MariachiBroWCW was stupid. Rey was over in WCW but unlike the WWE. They made a lot of money selling those masks. Could’ve made alot of money selling the other luchadors masks too. That’s why they are out of business.
@jonathansimmons6452 truth! Vince an co were smart in wanting Rey with the mask. They made a lot of cash for both them and Rey with the sales of his mask. WCW were just too naive and kinda disrespectful to the Lucha culture cause they did this to a bunch of masked luchadores.
Bro I remember watching this on PPV and thinking "WT ACTUAL F IS GOIN ON HERE!" It was acrobatic but super ruthless and hard hitting too. The way Eddie would slam Rey was incredible because you knew he was a lighter dude but the sheer power Eddie put into everything he threw was devastatingly entertaining.
It’s a match I only saw for the first time when the network came out but I’m so glad I did. It was incredible in a time where workrate was really overlooked as the main selling point of a match (in the US) and really made me appreciate both guys so much more. Ahead of their time and Rey still crushing it to this day
EDDIE was the reason why I started watching wrestling in 2001 after moving from Mexico to Canada. Eddie represented my culture and the lucha libre style 😎 👌
I always went to the Halloween havoc ppvs cause they were almost always in Vegas. I was there and it was so amazing to see in person. Thank you Eddie R.I.P and thank you Rey
I love that they were the best frenemies to ever exist in Wrestling. To the sense that outside the ring they were super bros and inside the ring they were nemesis. It was a perfect way they managed to work together into the business. Their feud always carried through every wrestling promotions they were.
I was a WCW guy at first. And Rey Mysterio was my top 3 favorite wrestlers. I was a little guy in high school, and to see this other little guy do things that nobody else was doing inspired me and helped me to see that my only limitations are myself. Yes, there are some immutable things about me, but there’s always a way to rise above and become what you want.
I remember watching that match that night. It was one of the best matches in history. It was amazing. I still miss Eddie. He was gone way too soon. Just imagine some of the great matches that could have been, and with people we never got to see him in the ring with.
There never was, and likely never will be, anyone as truly perfect as Eddie Guerrero. Someone who is universally loved by all of the fans, AND everyone backstage. Someone with truly no enemies, who is a true master of his craft, and can make every single match an S tier show. A guy who can make every single crowd go crazier than the last, always delivering unforgettable performances. Eddie truly was something special, and his death truly changed everything. It sparked the end of an era, and was a sign that wrestling had truly hit its peak, and could never rise above it. That was the major shift in the company that soon saw the decline of the show, new leadership was put in, they tried putting the spotlight on the other Guerreros and Ray but failed miserably, and soon the glory days were gone. Eddie truly was the best weve ever had, and the best we ever will have. Many came close, but not a single one since his loss has.
What amazes me is that Rey, a guy who wears a mask with no ear exposure, has a good ear for listening. That tells me that he's not just a one-trick wrestler, this is someone truly dedicated to the craft of sports entertainment.
See I went on Peacock and I saw that match. I watched it and that’s actually what got me into wrestling. I can’t believe it and it was more of a lifetime moment that got me into wrestling and got me wanting to do that when I get older.
I miss him, he felt like the only character in wrestling I ever really connected with, I don't know if I wanna explain why, but I feel like he was gone before his time, I think alotta people really coulda connected with his character even if it's just a character, I wonder what he was like outside the ring.
Woah, just from the clips shown I can see this was a hell of a match! It's a little bit past where I personally was into wrestling, but seeing those clips makes me wish that I had stuck with it a little bit longer.
I remember seeing that match live that night on PPV. I was already a massive fan of the cruiserweight division, but that match was sheer brilliance. I particularly loved seeing the blend of high flyers with the best technical guys working their asses off. Rey, Eddie, Dean, and Chavito were some of the most exciting guys to watch in that day.
Great damn match! I remember it so well, watching it with my dad on TBS and just loving it. I was so happy seeing newer high flying wrestlers get a chance. I knew that the tide was changing from powerhouses with stiff gimmick to more coordinated dance.
That one spot where Rey backflipped into the ddt was just fucking phenomenal, it made me spit out my food and yell out “holy shit!!! 👀👏🏻👏🏻✊🏻” when I first saw that match. Fucking banger of a match man.
this was such a sick match and man what an iconic costume! he always was my favourite wrestler and seeing him look like the Phantom back then when I was a kid was extra cool, after WCW ended I mostly went off Wrestling, WWF was just too serious for me and I really missed the Luchadores and Ultimo Dragon

I don’t watch wrestling. But growing up I always thought it was cool to see Rey Mysterio flipping through the air. He reminded me of a real-life Spiderman. I’m still impressed by his acrobatics.
This is the match where Rey and Eddie became two of my favorite wrestlers of all time. That match was the absolute best match of that whole PPV hands down in my opinion.
1997 was 100% when I fell in love with wrestling. felt like 5-6 years of pure entertainment gold. all the best of their profession at the same time. a dynasty like jordans bulls.

Rey obviously has the emotional attachment to Eddie, but there are several other matches he had where he either called it in the ring or just led his opponent along the way. Just more reason to say he was one of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots and go to work.
That was such an awesome match. I was a WWF fan and used to watch Hulk's cartoons. I thought I was addicted then. Rey, I love you man but, that Rage in the Cage with Taker and Mankind in '98 had be shook. 100% got me hooked hard! It seriously changed me. I wanted to be a badass like Mick Foley. Rey, seriously though. I loved you for other reasons. In a primarily white show, I saw a luchador kicking ass! It made all of us so proud to see one of our own beating the shit out people. You made it cool be Mexican and that's better than any fucking match. We were always like, "THAT'S OUR RAZA!"

I love hearing stories like this, where you hear of a veteran telling his opponent to listen to me, and calling it in the ring. Like Backlash 2005, opening match was Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho defending against Shelton Benjamin. Right before Shelton goes through the curtain, Vince tells him he’s going over, and the referee gives word to Jericho. They lock up, Jericho tells Benjamin the time they have, and asks what his finisher is. T-Bone Suplex. Jericho said listen to me, and called the match on the spot. It was a hell of a match with a good surprise finish.
