from what I know it’s the same on blocks mc, I played a few tournaments on there. so not sure what your talking about

you may have messed up the scaling(8x8, 16x16, 32x32, 64x64, etc), I really have no idea why it wouldn’t show. Is any part of the overlay showing? because if none of it is you may have not taken the overlay out of the zip folder or as I said earlier the scaling may be off.
if blocksmc height limit were higher it would still show the darker layer, just not on top

Ik this is old and probably fixed by now but you navigate through to the place where the top textures are, then open the notes file and change the height to 100
