Hey! Yes I felt safe in the city center & going to the popular tourist areas. I did go a little more remote at times that put me on guard more, but still safe compared to other places I've visited in Asia! Hope that helps & have so much fun!!
@@HappyGolfCart-uz3ft a definite YES !! but there were some comments from solo female travellers felt they’re being stared at. Have no fear about it coz’ those people are mainly foreign workers (legally/non-legal) from South Asians nationals (Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Sei Lankans, nepalese, Rohingyas etc.). Locals would normally ignore western tourists but not to say they’re unfriendly on the contrary they are super friendly. You just hv to ask where they’re from. If locals Malaysians they’ll smile and will help you as much if you need assistance, directions etc. Btw, there are more than 3 million foreign workers in Malaysia mostly from south Asia and neighbouring countries like Indonesia (highest nos.) Thais, Philipines, Myanmar etc. Foreigners do not know the Malaysian cultures and customs so sometimes you’ll might hv some difficulties communicating as they usually don’t speak English unlike most locals do.
Before we ask, look up singapore and malaysia for world safety index(no 5 and 10 respectively). Then look for other countries around them in the index. Caution: when you walk in touristy areas downtown, there are many south Asian migrant workers (some are illegals) who stare at solo western travellers. 1. You can ignore them 2. You can stare back 3. If they ask you for pictures, just say no.
