As a former graphic designer, I think it the "idiot factor" should be known. You say "This goes by so many eyeballs before it's approved, how come no one caught this?" Trust me, a lot of eyes probably did, the head designer probably did and probably brought it up to the boss / client, but the boss / client was very insistent, thinking that they were a genius and their idea was soooo cute or soooo cool and "don't argue with me, this is what I want" and the job, ultimately of the designer was to be the design-monkey that made their vision happen and just no amount of arguing could sway them.
"No, I can't blow this tiny real estate picture up any more while making it look clear. I've made it as sharp as it's going to get" - (Tries desperately to explain pixels per inch and the nature of JPEG artefacts to someone who just doesn't get it and doesn't want to learn and why this other picture would work better, but noooo.)
I guarantee you that's why there are Not-See symbol headphones and Santa's Milk. Someone who was paying the bills thought it was cute, the designer argued with them to no end until they just said "screw it, the customer's always right, even when they're wrong, I just want to get paid."

    • @michaelklaus
      @michaelklaus 7 месяцев назад +15

Did you know that the saying is actually "the customer is always right in matters of taste" and was coined by Harry Selfridge?
Which only helps here if you question which is more important, thetaste of the boss or the taste of the target audience... but as a graphic designer who are you to say anything about the target audience... oddly enough they equally do not listen to marketing managers like me who collect the data about the target audience.
So here is another interpretation of one of my professors which is equally unhelpful here: "the customer is always right, a potential customer is potentially right, and once the person in your store decided to not buy anything they aren't customers and therefore obviously wrong"

Mind you, the locations of switches used to be more standardized, I think: at a particular height, just inside and to the right when you went into a room. So you didn't (usually) need to stop and actually look for them that much.
Having said that, though, I have lived in some places with switches in just the dumbest possible spots. Including OUTSIDE the room, behind the door you have to open to go into the room (so it's hidden behind the door right when you need it), and on the other side of the previous room!

23:34 this always reminds me of a story with my history teacher. He asked the class what kind of belief for heaven we prefered (it was relevant to the class) the regular way 'do good go heaven, do bad go hell' or in calvinism where it's already decided from birth if you go to heaven or hell. Most of the class voted the regular way. I voted calvinism because I was having a hard time back then, and the thought that if I didn't do everything right in life but still could get into heaven gave me solace. My teacher confronted me about my choice and started asking me questions. Then he hit me with 'so you think if someone is predestined to go to heaven and decides to commit MASS MURDER they can still go to heaven?'
I was stunned like no I was just kinda sad but now you apparently think I support freaking mass murder or something tf and it just made me feel worse. At the time it made me feel sad but now I just can't help but laugh about how my teacher came out of left field with that comment.

So he already knows the serial killer will serial kill. They can't "surprise" God with that. Which just brings up even more questions as does everything related to Christianity. Teachers assuming free will is a fact. Calvanism does not follow the modern common definition of free will.
You are predestined to go to heaven or not (assuming single predestination not double) in the same way you are predestined for your sins. Calvanisn assumes free will is confined by the sins which are predestined and its our will that detirmines whether we act on that.
A serial killer was never predestined for heaven. So the teachers analogy is moot because someone that does bad things was never meant for heaven anyway according to calvanism.

I myself fell victim to searching for "KN Car" after Kia changed their logo and everyone that I confessed this to called me stupid 😭😭
Also, at 9:04 the text says "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" just really jumbled up LMAO

17:59 that's actually somewhat common in older New England homes. It's called witches stairs, and they were put there to save space in small homes.

9:25 It took me a few minutes to realize that this says "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" - for anyone outside the US, this is from the first line of the US Declaration of Independence.

That stairs one.. THIS IS WHY WE HAVE STANDARDISED STAIRS. For every centimeter of a raise per step, the horizontal surface of a step has to be twice the raise. Raise cannot be above "mid shin" high.. Or something along the lines.

13:15 is GOOD design. this is intended for sandwhiches at a workplace, so people dont steal it.

I love when design fails. I remember when I was in middle school and the paper was about how to stop bullying but everyone thought the paper was about bullying bc of their poor design choices

I would buy the house for the soul purpose of painting the house as a Minecraft character actually getting down and dirty with the cow. Then I would start my own RUclips channel of me replacing this house to look like random minecraft RUclipsrs skins getting dirty with the cow and every so often paint the cows face to look like it’s wearing the mask of a popular ship (for example Skeppy is the one forking the cow while the cow is wearing a mask of BBH 😂) and to make it even better I will take requests for which RUclipsr is next and which ship should be done. 😂😂😂😂
Thoughts on how to improve? 😂😂😂

4:36 being French myself I think this is actually supposed to say "herbes", and that would make much more sense with the design's theme too (but before you ask, we call "herpes" the same thing in French, so yes, it's still a shitty design, now internationally so!)

THE KIA LOGO!!!!! I literally stared at it for like 5 minutes the first time I saw it and I mentioned to someone that people are probably gonna think it's a new brand called "KN" because the design is awful, even though I still wasn't sure at the time whether it was a new brand either. Didn't realise how right I would be. I'm a graphic designer and always think about how companies are trying to simplify/modernise their logos so much so that it's making some of them borderline unrecognisable, point proven with Kia.
