Avi did write and arrange quite a bit when he was with Pentatonix but Pop was a new genre for him. He started out classical and opera. His first song written for Pentatonix was "Show You How to Love". He also was the primary writer for "Love Again, "Standing By" and "Run to You" also "Peaceful War" and several others less well known. His specialties had become acappella and vocal jazz prior to Pentatonix and he was in several groups at once as a very in demand natural bass when he was convinced to join the new group being formed for the American acappella tv competition the Sing-Off. Pentatonix won and became quite successful touring around the world. Avi and Kevin composed their rythmn section. Avi would back up Kevin in percussion having already won the newly renamed for him rythmn section award from the ICCA to allow them to award it to a vocal bass. See a demonstration by the 2 of them. Sing Strong Festival 2012 ruclips.net/video/xnbwR9sIOPI/видео.html Matt Sallee, Avi's replacement in Pentatonix, is quite good but he is the more standard baritone singing down to bass seen in acappella bands (as Scott the tall blond baritone learned to do as well) so their sound and complexity had to be modified according to their arranger Ben Bram. For example, Avi brought the idea of arranging Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the SugarPlum Fairies" to the band and they did it winning their 2nd grammy award for the newly renamed category "arrangement instrumental or acappella". Yes I agree with you Avi had to move on to become a solo artist. He was also quite burned out from constant touring when he left and took a year off from the music business entirely. The story telling of a singer-songwriter is more his style and his original compositions have been a gift to a new generation of bass singers.
Avi Kaplan left willingly to spend more time with his family and friends. Touring took a lot out of him, and he really enjoys being able to "escape" to the wilderness as needed. This is one of a few videos that went viral on RUclips, along with "Somebody that I used to Know". Hope to see more PTX from you!!!
They look so young in this one! But Avi going solo was a personal decision and was explained in a PTX video. And we really got a bonus from it, as anyone who has seen his solo work will attest. I've really liked the few reactions by you that I have seen, and I hope to see many more.
There are comments concerning PTX's development but I think it is easy to forget how young they were when they burst onto the scene. Three of them were 19 during The Sing Off and they and their voices have matured physically in the intervening 10 years so it is only natural that their sound would change. Not to mention their technique benefiting from those years of experience. It would be odd if they hadn't improved considering the amount of talent and commitment they had from the beginning. The same can also be said for Matt, now the youngest in the group, whose progression in the bass parts continues to be evident for similar reasons. In some of the songs on the recent The Lucky Ones he actually sounds like a cello. Kevin's Beyonce might have competition. As for the song, there is an amazing version by K.Z. Tandingen on season 8 of The Voice, a Chinese singing competition for established singers. As an avid Pentaholic, I might be considered heretical to suggest it might rival this version. I say this in the full knowledge that the word fan in this context is just a shortened form of the word fanatic. So shoot me. I'm 72 and past caring.
You should start covering some of their originals. Love Again Run To You Sing Happy Now Coffee In Bed Love Me When I Don’t Thank You Be My Eyes Three of the four songs in the Popspring video are original.
Did you notice at the end of the video that they were wearing "normal" clothes? This represents where they began, with the nicer clothes representing where they were at the time the video was made.
Bigger than they ever dreamed!!! And I have to respectfully disagree with Laurie. I think this, although earlier in their career, is one of the best examples of the superior ability to blend their voices. Perfection in my view! But that's what makes the world go round! Thanks for your reaction Danny!
This cover is great, but they continue to improve every year that I can totally hear the difference here....its just the fullness and blend isn't as strong as now but it's still amazing!!
@@dannytheswedishmusixian1513 well they sound better now. They have really perfected their blending of vocals. On new stuff, they can all blend and sound like one voice much better. Plus their arrangement skills have exploded. Once you listen to more of their recent stuff, you’ll be able to hear the difference With this arrangement they feel a little exposed or bare. Not sure how to describe it. lol
It still amazes me.. I forget that there are no instruments. That may be the best compliment I can give an A Capella group, when they make you forget and you just enjoy the music.
I agree, Avi going solo is a gift to all of us! As always, enjoy your reactions! Thank you!
Thanks Cathy!
90s dance medley every loves that one.
Yeah we did that, great!

Thanks for the info! Yeah his solo stuff is fantastic
I'm enjoying your music.
Glad to hear it 👍🏻
INSANE!!!!!!

Aha, thanks for the info!
Bohemian Rhapsody is still my favorite song by these guys, that one is so impressive.

Thanks Frederic, I appreciate it.

Haha, thanks for the info! Kz is very talented but she tends to over sing songs imo. Just throwing all the tricks and technique in.
@@dannytheswedishmusixian1513 I'm a Filipino. KZ is, too. The country has swell of singers of the same style oftentimes I already feel it's too much.
Interesting. And I think I agree. Technically very impressive singers but...too much technique and too little real emotion.
You should start covering some of their originals.
Love Again
Run To You
Sing
Happy Now

Love Me When I Don’t
Thank You

Yeah I saw that, thanks for the explanation.
I have never heard a bad song by them, with Avi or Matt. They may never be royal, but they're rich in talent.
Agreed!
Bigger than they ever dreamed!!! And I have to respectfully disagree with Laurie. Aha, cool. Could it be a production thing? I assume their voices still sound the same?
Yep! right there with ya on the improvement as they matured!

This is great but I’d love to hear what you think of KZ Tandingan’s version of this. Really original and hugely entertaining.

I agree
you should react to Alterbridge Words darker tan their wings live at royal Albert Hall
I can't hear _Royals_ any more without thinking of Weird Al's parody, "Foil". Please consider reacting to it.
Never heard it, got a link?

PTX is close to royalty to me. If you haven't seen Lorde's original, it haunts me: ruclips.net/video/u7T64Qo3bdU/видео.html
