I've seen speculative essays on the future of AI and I can draw some similar parallels; intelligent but lacking cognition or understanding, an absence of morality, unfathomable intellect in the hands of something less than a worm, more like if you gave an amoeba the ability to do math. A classical, non-sapient AI runs on reward, Darwinian selection and parameters, and a sufficiently powerful one will find novel ways of solving a problem that can end up being worse than the problem itself, because it doesn't truly understand anything and is incapable of context or nuance. The Imago is hungry, it creates a solution to this by continually more extreme events, and as the Abrahamic god is "all loving" the Imago has been conditioned to believe itself as such, solving the issue of its hunger in the most blunt and unsustainable way possible without understanding it will exhaust its food source.

The 3000s have a lot of good to give it seems. I grow weary of too many world shattering eldritch horrors though… I think 3000 hit a good balance between eldritch and quaint.
I always found this to be one of the most disturbing SCPs. Like the old man scared me, genuinely frightening, but this is disturbing. I think a movie based around this would be one of those things that people left needing therapy after.

Who cares about the metaphysical side of it, just the scenes of brightly colored cicadas crawling out of people and people engaging in mass ritualistic canabalism would be what the story is about. The "god" would neither need to be mentioned or explained, if you did it would be towards the end and basically just the people stumbling on something that points them to the "god" and maybe they realize they're way out of their depth as the credits roll. The point of it would be people behaving in a way that is antithetical to their normal way of life and the body horror of the cicadas bursting from mouths and butts and stuff.
Considering Cousin Johnny only speaks in a word salad I doubt it would make such a cohesive statement, unless you're already an unwilling participant in a blue, black or white level event.

I'm not a religious man, but the audacity of a being to take the mantle of god then to be so vile and evil to humanity that someone would have to sacrifice themselves to an eternity of suffering beyond hell's most damning torture just to stop it, it fills me with a certain kind of sadness that makes me want to hold harder onto hope. Wonderful story, wonderfully narrated.
I don't think it's actually evil. It's basically a dumb deity that takes everything literally. A lot of concepts in Christianity revolve around suffering. Suffering for the sake of our fellow man, getting killed so the rest of humanity will be forgiven for their sins etc. This "God" literally thinks that humans enjoy suffering and hardships and that brings us closer to God. It THINKS it's doing good for humanity. The bible is filled to the brim with stories of humans dying horribly and it THINKS that humans literally want to die. It's a deity that has the mind of a child that doesn't understand the concept of metaphors and symbolism. It's not that it's inherently evil. It's just that it doesn't understand what humanity is really about.
I think the most disturbing part is that because it can't fully understand or doesn't wish to it perverts and changes things to fit its own ideals or thought so much that it ultimately destroys what the original meaning was, it's a disturbing reflection of what happened in the past and what even happens today,

That is also why Jesus had to die. God, being a perfect being, was also full of Love and Mercy, but he cannot withhold his righteous judgement, or that would violate his ultimate justice, so Jesus, human and a perfect being (being God himself) dies and descends into hell, willingly accepting the wrath of God for all the evil of every human ever to exist or that will exist, thereby satisfying the need for God to dish out punishment. Lovecraft was cosmic, "unknowable" monsters. In short, a lazy creepypasta writer. This was actually fleshed-out, dimensional, godly, and the author wanted you to understand exactly what it was. As a Christian fan of the SCP Foundation, the monologue from the doctor at the end and the containment procedures were really depressing and kind of a mind screw. I suppose that means it’s a well written SCP entry, though. I had to give props to the author after I finished my first reading.
It hits on a deeper level then any one religion. It is the fact that you must give up something you love so dearly and sacrifice all that is good in the world. It is deeply distressing, yet also tinted with divine revenge for the god they loved so much.
Me neither but the way the author portrays the despair and anger from the Christians in the article is really gripping. The concept of a bug god consuming and replacing the largest religion on Earth is cool and scary on its own, but the human element really pushes the article from good to great.
This article is one of my absolute favorites, and the performance of that last monologue was absolutely gutwrenching. what a fantastic and thorough dissection of the impact of christianity on the world to force the reader to ask "what if it was obliterated?"
Out of the three "How to contain a deity" type SCP articles that I can name off the top off my head, those being the deer, the scarlet king, and imago, this one is by far my favorite. It's so visceral, cosmically horrifying, and tragic.
'The Royal Society for the Imprisonment of Abnormalcy' is a great little inclusion. A full series of late medieval SCP foundation-like stories would be great.
I've gotta say: I am not a religious person. Empirical evidence rhetoric are my bread and butter. I love questions and dream of the possible answers. Yet I've gotta say your narrations of someone whose faith remains unshaken, and the acceptance of its end are truly powerful and evocative. I gotta say, I am a bit envious of that kind of passion.

This is definitely one of my favorites, with its truly horrifying concept and implications. Its got a sort horror that I can't fully grasp, yet still gave me the shivers the first time I read it. Definitely a real step up from the average unstoppable man-eating monster.

One of the best XK entries I've heard but damn was Father Clarke's entry hard to swallow as a religious person. Part of me likes to think that they didn't have to go through with it in the end but XK scenarios rarely have happy endings.
I loved this. I love the standard report readings, of course, but this extra bit of in-house banter between departments and extra reports from agents feels like bonus content. And as usual the voice acting for the reading is top notch.
This is probably my favorite SCP so far. The existential horror it brings is comparable to Lovecraft and right alongside other SCPs like “What happens after,” and wrap that up with creepy body horror and you already have a good mix. But what puts it over the top is how well the author conveys the difference between this thing and our reality. While many SCPs are strange, Imago is truly alien; that to me is the heart of SCP
Cold is actually quite an apt description of the phenomena of nothing. Think about it, all "cold" is, is the feeling of experiencing a lower than average local kinetic energy among the medium (vacuum, gas or liquid) one is experiencing as their matrix/surrounding atmospheric conditions. Also, it would likely explode and spread into our reality faster than the speed of light, if it was exposed to the comparatively hot (no where in our universe is there a space where temperature reaches 0kelvin or -273.15C, even man made bose-einstein condensates are still always fraction above it) fabric of our universe. Nothing and its superior quantum stability could very well anhilate the medium that provides the "pressure" necessary for things like the strong force to occur (i.e. normal matter could no longer exist). It would cause a big rip, similar in nature to the big bang (an expansion, faster than the speed of light), that converts all the matter it touches (including the boiling phasma of virtual particles making up quantum foam fabric at the base of reality) into a (relatively) 2d plane around the "bubble", that dissipates in density/energy level as the expansion stretches it out.
This article is one of my favourite SCPs, because it tries to grow a new sprout based on the old root... and, I guess, it manages in an unusually poetic way.

Suggestion: due to the violent erradication of the singers, SCP-3004-1 became vastly more violent than before, hence it's modern Events Feature such violent actions. Had the Religion Not Been so violently erradicated, SCP-3004-1 would Not have caused as violent Events as it does. Another Suggestion: Christianity would Not have to be wiped Out in a worst-case-scenario, but it's worship would have to be, similar to the old egyptian Religions. A thought regarding the Second Suggestion: If it, after it's old believers were wiped by Christians, Then latched onto the Christians, erradicating Christianity would cause it to latch onto the SCP Foundation, aswell as vastly changing it's Nature. Maybe it would become helpfull to the Foundations gold, maybe it would repeat what it did with Christianity, meaning the foundation might have to be dissolved, and could Not be Reformed. A question: Christianity, in recent years, has been vastly declining in Popularity, so how this entity is becoming stronger and stronger is beyond me
To answer your question, SCP-3004-1 doesn't feed on the amount of people practicing its rituals, it feeds on their "faith" and "belief." Thus even if the amount of people practicing said "faith" shrink in number, if the remaining members' "faith" intensifies, the SCP will still gather a sufficient amount of food. The report also alludes to the fact that this entity seemed to have consumed other entities like it, which probably supplemented any loss of food it had experienced. It also describes the entity as being mostly asleep, and thus not using much, if any, of the "faith" it's already consumed. As for your suggestions, the singers appeared to already have violent tendencies in their rituals, and their hatred towards Christianity as it tried to eradicate their way of life and absorb their people into its own sphere already had influenced the SCP. Christianity destroying the singers' culture probably didn't increase the brutality of it, but once it latched onto Christianity, which is chock full of metaphors and simile that the entity did not understand, its brutality then began to increase as well. The eradication of Christianity is also different from the old singers' religion being eradicated and absorbed into Christianity. While surely many of the singers were actually killed, it's probable that there were so many believers that many were simply converted to Christianity, which allowed for SCP-3004 to hop over to it. The Foundation is not absorbing Christianity into its own beliefs, it's outright wiping it from its own memory along with the rest of the world, thus leaving the entity with nowhere to go, stuck in its own empty dimension.

History will rewrite itself as if Christianity didn’t exist, with all the world’s cultures and religions reacting to it. The world will change to a timeline where Christianity didn’t exist. The cultures and religions Christianity effected will be changed to be so the influences never existed. Nobody knows what this timeline will look like. Doing this will destroy its food source. With no belief it can latch onto, it’ll starve.

Trying to summarize it, a god-like being stumbled into a cicada religion and became its deity, the religion was exterminated but since some rituals has become similar to christianity it jumped over and now thinks it's the christian god and trying to give christians what they want, but since it doesn't understand humans the rituals are becoming a little too intense. The foundation has prepared a way to erase christianity and hopefully 3004 alongside it.
@@milliondollarmistake It isn’t fully explained, and is mostly there as an homage to Christ’s sacrifice. “Eschatology” is the type of theology that deals with death and the judgment of the human soul, so take it as you will. My personal theory is the machines the foundation built are based on belief - to destroy Christianity fully, they must do something to someone who believes in it wholeheartedly. This will not be pleasant.

I always found this to be one of the most disturbing SCPs. Like the old man scared me, genuinely frightening, but this is disturbing. I think a movie based around this would be one of those things that people left needing therapy after.

@@crimsoncapricorn188 what? Do it like an X-Files style movie, a couple of agents investigating weird happening at churches around the country/world. Who cares about the metaphysical side of it, just the scenes of brightly colored cicadas crawling out of people and people engaging in mass ritualistic canabalism would be what the story is about. The "god" would neither need to be mentioned or explained, if you did it would be towards the end and basically just the people stumbling on something that points them to the "god" and maybe they realize they're way out of their depth as the credits roll. The point of it would be people behaving in a way that is antithetical to their normal way of life and the body horror of the cicadas bursting from mouths and butts and stuff.

Legitimately my favorite SCP channel. Ive used your videos as an introduction to alot of my friends who would otherwise never hear about the SCP Foundation. Every one has gotten hooked. Your service to the foundation is appreciated my man.

I'm not a religious man, but the audacity of a being to take the mantle of god then to be so vile and evil to humanity that someone would have to sacrifice themselves to an eternity of suffering beyond hell's most damning torture just to stop it, it fills me with a certain kind of sadness that makes me want to hold harder onto hope. Wonderful story, wonderfully narrated.
I don't think it's actually evil. It's basically a dumb deity that takes everything literally. A lot of concepts in Christianity revolve around suffering. Suffering for the sake of our fellow man, getting killed so the rest of humanity will be forgiven for their sins etc. This "God" literally thinks that humans enjoy suffering and hardships and that brings us closer to God. It THINKS it's doing good for humanity. The bible is filled to the brim with stories of humans dying horribly and it THINKS that humans literally want to die. It's a deity that has the mind of a child that doesn't understand the concept of metaphors and symbolism. It's not that it's inherently evil. It's just that it doesn't understand what humanity is really about.
I think the most disturbing part is that because it can't fully understand or doesn't wish to it perverts and changes things to fit its own ideals or thought so much that it ultimately destroys what the original meaning was, it's a disturbing reflection of what happened in the past and what even happens today,

Unless you also are prefect in every way, you will not be spared the wrath of such a being... NO ONE will be... A flawed God can see themselves in a flawed creation, a flawless one sees only evil that must be wiped clean...
THAT is the kind of entity described in the Bible. That's why it says to FEAR God... That is also why Jesus had to die. God, being a perfect being, was also full of Love and Mercy, but he cannot withhold his righteous judgement, or that would violate his ultimate justice, so Jesus, human and a perfect being (being God himself) dies and descends into hell, willingly accepting the wrath of God for all the evil of every human ever to exist or that will exist, thereby satisfying the need for God to dish out punishment. But, since Jesus was an innocent man, not worthy of punishment, and since he was also God himself, and God cannot be separated from himself, Jesus rose from the dead, destroying the very concept of sin and need for punishment of it in the process.
@@davidtucker9498 that's a great description and explanation of the big man and his son, a perfect being can't think imperfectly so it needs something to mediate to it or that can understand both sides, and that's also the issue with this SCP as well by all understanding this creature sees its viewpoint as perfect and correct and thus anything not working within that area is wrong and must be corrected

Lovecraft was cosmic, "unknowable" monsters. In short, a lazy creepypasta writer. This was actually fleshed-out, dimensional, godly, and the author wanted you to understand exactly what it was. Just because it's a big monster does not mean Lovecraftian, it's a shame so many hop skip and jump to that conclusion so willingly. Because again, Lovecraft fucking sucked, it was his fans that made his work great.

Yeah this article is really depressing when you think about it.
As a Christian fan of the SCP Foundation, the monologue from the doctor at the end and the containment procedures were really depressing and kind of a mind screw.
I suppose that means it’s a well written SCP entry, though. I had to give props to the author after I finished my first reading.
It hits on a deeper level then any one religion. It is the fact that you must give up something you love so dearly and sacrifice all that is good in the world. It is deeply distressing, yet also tinted with divine revenge for the god they loved so much.
Me neither but the way the author portrays the despair and anger from the Christians in the article is really gripping. The concept of a bug god consuming and replacing the largest religion on Earth is cool and scary on its own, but the human element really pushes the article from good to great.
This article is one of my absolute favorites, and the performance of that last monologue was absolutely gutwrenching. what a fantastic and thorough dissection of the impact of christianity on the world to force the reader to ask "what if it was obliterated?"
Out of the three "How to contain a deity" type SCP articles that I can name off the top off my head, those being the deer, the scarlet king, and imago, this one is by far my favorite. It's so visceral, cosmically horrifying, and tragic.

This is definitely one of my favorites, with its truly horrifying concept and implications. Its got a sort horror that I can't fully grasp, yet still gave me the shivers the first time I read it.

One of the best XK entries I've heard but damn was Father Clarke's entry hard to swallow as a religious person. Part of me likes to think that they didn't have to go through with it in the end but XK scenarios rarely have happy endings.
I loved this. I love the standard report readings, of course, but this extra bit of in-house banter between departments and extra reports from agents feels like bonus content. And as usual the voice acting for the reading is top notch.
And we are being told to eat these little buggers....Foundation has got a lot on their hands..

This is probably my favorite SCP so far. The existential horror it brings is comparable to Lovecraft and right alongside other SCPs like “What happens after,” and wrap that up with creepy body horror and you already have a good mix. But what puts it over the top is how well the author conveys the difference between this thing and our reality. While many SCPs are strange, Imago is truly alien; that to me is the heart of SCP
Cold is actually quite an apt description of the phenomena of nothing. Think about it, all "cold" is, is the feeling of experiencing a lower than average local kinetic energy among the medium (vacuum, gas or liquid) one is experiencing as their matrix/surrounding atmospheric conditions.
Also, it would likely explode and spread into our reality faster than the speed of light, if it was exposed to the comparatively hot (no where in our universe is there a space where temperature reaches 0kelvin or -273.15C, even man made bose-einstein condensates are still always fraction above it) fabric of our universe.
Nothing and its superior quantum stability could very well anhilate the medium that provides the "pressure" necessary for things like the strong force to occur (i.e. normal matter could no longer exist). It would cause a big rip, similar in nature to the big bang (an expansion, faster than the speed of light), that converts all the matter it touches (including the boiling phasma of virtual particles making up quantum foam fabric at the base of reality) into a (relatively) 2d plane around the "bubble", that dissipates in density/energy level as the expansion stretches it out.
This article is one of my favourite SCPs, because it tries to grow a new sprout based on the old root... and, I guess, it manages in an unusually poetic way.

@@JoeSmith-ns2yl It's not evil, though. It's shaped entirely on it's understanding of humanity and how a God's role in religion should work, as terribly flawed and literal it's interpretations have been due to it's completely alien nature mudding the message.
This is one of the best SCP's I've heard and one of the best productions on this channel. I think it's actually helped that it starts out "cliche right?" It makes the other shoe drop all the heaveir.

Suggestion: due to the violent erradication of the singers, SCP-3004-1 became vastly more violent than before, hence it's modern Events Feature such violent actions. Had the Religion Not Been so violently erradicated, SCP-3004-1 would Not have caused as violent Events as it does.
Another Suggestion: Christianity would Not have to be wiped Out in a worst-case-scenario, but it's worship would have to be, similar to the old egyptian Religions.
A thought regarding the Second Suggestion: If it, after it's old believers were wiped by Christians, Then latched onto the Christians, erradicating Christianity would cause it to latch onto the SCP Foundation, aswell as vastly changing it's Nature. Maybe it would become helpfull to the Foundations gold, maybe it would repeat what it did with Christianity, meaning the foundation might have to be dissolved, and could Not be Reformed.
A question: Christianity, in recent years, has been vastly declining in Popularity, so how this entity is becoming stronger and stronger is beyond me
To answer your question, SCP-3004-1 doesn't feed on the amount of people practicing its rituals, it feeds on their "faith" and "belief." Thus even if the amount of people practicing said "faith" shrink in number, if the remaining members' "faith" intensifies, the SCP will still gather a sufficient amount of food. The report also alludes to the fact that this entity seemed to have consumed other entities like it, which probably supplemented any loss of food it had experienced. It also describes the entity as being mostly asleep, and thus not using much, if any, of the "faith" it's already consumed.
As for your suggestions, the singers appeared to already have violent tendencies in their rituals, and their hatred towards Christianity as it tried to eradicate their way of life and absorb their people into its own sphere already had influenced the SCP. Christianity destroying the singers' culture probably didn't increase the brutality of it, but once it latched onto Christianity, which is chock full of metaphors and simile that the entity did not understand, its brutality then began to increase as well.
The eradication of Christianity is also different from the old singers' religion being eradicated and absorbed into Christianity. While surely many of the singers were actually killed, it's probable that there were so many believers that many were simply converted to Christianity, which allowed for SCP-3004 to hop over to it. The Foundation is not absorbing Christianity into its own beliefs, it's outright wiping it from its own memory along with the rest of the world, thus leaving the entity with nowhere to go, stuck in its own empty dimension.

This is the retroactive removal of Christianity from history. History will rewrite itself as if Christianity didn’t exist, with all the world’s cultures and religions reacting to it. The world will change to a timeline where Christianity didn’t exist. The cultures and religions Christianity effected will be changed to be so the influences never existed. Nobody knows what this timeline will look like.
Doing this will destroy its food source. With no belief it can latch onto, it’ll starve.

As an occultist, I found it uncanny how thoughtforms and interactions with the entity were described. It's exactly how I've experienced encounters with entities.

Trying to summarize it, a god-like being stumbled into a cicada religion and became its deity, the religion was exterminated but since some rituals has become similar to christianity it jumped over and now thinks it's the christian god and trying to give christians what they want, but since it doesn't understand humans the rituals are becoming a little too intense. The foundation has prepared a way to erase christianity and hopefully 3004 alongside it.
Meanwhile I like cicadas even more :3

@@milliondollarmistake It isn’t fully explained, and is mostly there as an homage to Christ’s sacrifice. “Eschatology” is the type of theology that deals with death and the judgment of the human soul, so take it as you will. My personal theory is the machines the foundation built are based on belief - to destroy Christianity fully, they must do something to someone who believes in it wholeheartedly. This will not be pleasant.
