I LOVE this, didn't want the film to end! What a great bloke (forgotten his name) to do all the work of calling for entries, visiting artists, getting advice then mounting the exhibition, WOW.
And the art shown here is totally AMAZING, SO brilliant. I take my hat off and bow to these artists, such QUALITY work. And then ON TOP to hear their stories and hear a bit about their personal struggles = makes their art even MORE wonderful.
I got very emotional (and cried) several times: such powerful great art and this film really touched me. How BRILLIANT that the exhibition was taken up by (name?) and taken to London. He obviously knew he could make lots of money for himself PLUS the artists. I hope the man who did all the hard work got rewarded on top of his pleasure at his/the artists' successes?
Light after darkness, good things happening to people who've suffered loads = so good to get this feel-good sometimes. Trouble is there are so MANY great artists who have had severe problems/difficulties, always will (they don't disappear) = how to help ALL? And prevent MORE from becoming homeless etc.?
Thank you for this, I was exhausted and needed not move, be quiet and to watch something nice, it was perfect. Any updates on the artists please?

Hi Brent, watching your documentary has given me a glimmer of hope that my art is valid. I've lived with mental health issues, homelessness and endured a lot of trauma and adversity in my life. Painting and drawing has provided me with an outlet that takes me away from my problems and express myself uniquely.
However, I feel "less than" when I look at how wonderful real artists work is compared to my own and feel like mine isn't any good. It's great to see the work of other outsider artists being appreciated by the world and that great art isn't solely created by people who've attended art school or trained by masters. It's fabulous to see the artists you featured and appreciate the purity of their work and self expression. Real art for the sake of art. Thank you for a lovely video.

Brent, thank you for comment. You are filled with grace when you paint. Christ never asked you to be like others, but to follow him. Our suffering brings redemption just as His crucifixion redeemed our souls. Courageous suffering begets fierce joy and I suspect your art is spectacular. Peace, Brother.

    Amazing documentary, thanks.
I have restarted my art journey after 18 years of severe anxiety/depression and extreme panic attacks as a result.
Art really does heal (it has and currently does for me anyway).
It cuts through all that constipated nonstop thinking about past/future, and simply allows the connection to the moment to happen by itself.
Inside it feels open, light, alive and full of energy. I feel like, *Me.
On the outside, it translates as lots of smiling, laughter, playfulness and affection. And more

I think this guy as got is finger on the pulse , the exclusive option of galleries, art critics, artist ect .. that if you are not schooled by the system then you are not able to make the cut , children do incredible art they have no inhibitions or boundaries incredible but get to school it gets bloody knocked out of them , we all know if your talented your talented irrespective of your background, I've been a artist all my life no school, they just need to look at Francis Bacon watch is doc , he said he never went to art school because he didn't want corrupting and force ,
Great programs fantastic keep it up ...

Amazing art and talent and lessons on being open to different styles and perspectives. To think talented artist like this exist in their own worlds and the host brings their stories out. This really had an effect on me and I’m thankful the host was driven to do this work. Artist who create because they feel the need to snd not dependent on an audience or money... mind blown

I am always amazed that people in other countries get Outsider Art and Brut Art confused together. Brut Art was a movement commercialized by Jean Dubuffet. Outsider Art has no history. It is like Folk Art but for people who are "Outside" the lines of traditional Folk Art. That's it.

Why are you hiring an "expert" to evaluate the "worthiness" of the art? I'm offended that outsider art has moved from personal expression created by those on the fringes of society into commodity status. While acknowledging the diversity of artistic expression is a good thing and helpful to the artists, I'm offended by the "experts" meddling in defining what is of value and what is not. We do not need yet another hierarchy imposed by "experts".

    • @brentpope100
      @brentpope100 2 года назад

I agree in principle Jeka, as my love of outsider art, brut art, raw art or whatever you want to call it comes from the heart of the artist. Its something about the fact that they are creating art for the very reason it should be created, namely for how it makes them feel. Forget about the critics. I wanted to make a documentary just to see if I could learn more and inform more about this genre of art and artists. But I agree, how can someone actually be an expert on this form of artistic expression, they can't, because its not from a book. Who has the power to judge that. Its just what I like, the rawness, the simplicity, the ability to create. I love it for the right reasons..
