Very well said! I stay in the books reading artists catalogues that I buy from the local library. I like your vast knowledge of art as I mentioned and your engaging the artists in conversation enables you to see if they know their material & secret processes. I never tell! Thank you Kate!
Great art show! I love outsider art a lot! Almost every artwork there is unique and looks like a part of personal mythology. Great thx to you for this video, and to all outsider artists who took part in this artshow. Sometimes I think that outsider art is a pure art form. artists express themselves and they are not motivated by money too much.
My Mythology ide buy outside art before anything else, local artist etc...screw the money grubbing investment motivated inflated crap the curators n gallery owners PUSH, for nothing more than there profit n creating a profit motivated resale market. THOSE sincere artists I support ."SELF TAUGHT ART" Is OUTSIDER art. and it's pure Not subject to the lunatic ZIETGIEST of the day..
Of course you are partly right. but without curators and gallery keepers outsider artists most likely would't get any profit at all :)Both sides have a benefit but the percentage is different:))
For the record, that television sculpture is pretty clearly not Derek Webster. When you turn the corner into Mariposa's booth, that totem with all the bottle caps is Webster. :) Thanks SO MUCH for sharing these every year!!
Such a fun event! I love the variety of work, and the criss-crossing of ideas being exchanged. Something about Paul Laffoley's work always hits me. It's always a mix of wonder, and moments of clarity. Great coverage Loren, thanks for sharing , and of course thanks Kate! Ps. I don't know how far the bike can get you but there will be a massive Matisse exhibition down here in Boston at the MFA April 9th - July 9th. Does the Kalm report ever travel out of state to major shows???
The lines between insider and outsider artists are driving me crazy. If there's even one to imagine? What if you only attended a few college classes and then become self actualized on your own?
The whole history of "art brut-outsider art" is a confusion of hoped for clear categories. As I've said many times before; if you're educated enough to know what "outsider" art is, you're probably not an "outsider" artist.
Karey Maurice no it's not. it's explained in a video here on YOU Tube. "turning the world inside out". there is a distinction between outside art and all others. BasicalLY if your not POPULAR OR making bucks....your out....and OUTSIDER art is "self taught art".
Another question. What if you were friends with one of the most famous artist in the contemporary art world and nobody officially acknowledged it? Should you still be called an OUTSIDER ARTIST? Undiscovered Artist? What do you call that type of situation?
OMG- And add an inventory of 300+ pieces and your looking at 'King Tuts' tomb! With no Mummy's to haunt you if you enter the shrine.... Thank you Kate! Lol
The artists exhibiting there are so good (Can they really be called outsiders?) I guess outsider art can be described as art influenced by Jean Dubuffet and Art Brut these days. But I love the art and the art fair though.
hello . its not really outsider art if you sense close the images in a frame . if your all going to return fine art intellect bach to handicraft , you need to be using common sense rather than claiming to be different from the established thought system but still using their way of perceiving art . just a comment most wouldn`t agree with but there you go . with regards
That 2017 outsider exhibition certainly had the wow factor!!!! Thank you RUclips!!!! ♥️🍷

Thanks for the clarification Michael. Sometimes, in these big mash-up shows, it's hard to decipher the wall labels and texts.
OMG, I totally understand!! It's a sensory overload in there. :) If I weren't a collector of Derek's, I wouldn't have said anything.
Always great, thanks James. Really stirs the creativity.
Thanks! Fantastic view of Outsider Art.
Awesome presentation! Thanks.

wish i could have been there !

Still the highlight of the year.
Nice shout-out to my hometown at 8:35!
Can you find the work of the late Leon de Lew ?

חדשני ומעל המודרנה. יפה וטוב .דימויים וסמלים עם רגש ופעילים אמנותית.
