Tagalog of North is clearly Hilaga.
Norte is a Spanish word (of North) by origin.
Basically, the Filipino language is a term representing the different dialects spoken throughout the Philippine Archipelago and it's respective area of responsibility, and that includes words we adopted during the colonial times.
It is clear that the question said "Ano ang TAGALOG" not "ano ang FILIPINO word" for the word North. It's just plain common sense. If the question asks for a specific word of a specific dialect/language spoken, then the answer should also be specifically given addressing the question requirements.
Things I learned in my Filipino subjects 😅 SKL

The question was specific and has a pattern......SOUTH for TIMOG so it should be HILAGA for NORTH. Now, if the pattern was, SOUTH for NORTH or SUR then, HILAGA or NORTE for NORTH would be the answers.
It was CRYSTAL CLEAR that the question needs a SPECIFIC answer and not just a POSSIBLE answer.

According to Wikipedia, of the 30,000 root words in the Tagalog language, there are close to 10,000 from Spanish, 3,000 from Malay, 2,000 from English, 200 from Chinese dialects, 300 from Tamil and Sanskrit, 200 from Arabic, and a few hundred altogether from other languages. Ibig sabihin, "Norte" is considered as a tagalog word although Spanish in origin. Same is true for words abante, edad, basura, lugar and maleta, which we all borrowed from the Spanish Language. Budhi, diwata, dukha and guro, on the other hand, are borrowed from Sanskrit, a language in India. The word "hukom" (judge) is of Arabic origin.

Tagalog is a dialect, it pre-dates colonization sa bansa. FIlipino is a language composed of several dialects and foreign terms na inadopt na bilang bahagi ng kasaysayan. Norte is spanish for North, kaya FIlipino term sya, hindi Tagalog.

I ain't no linguist but base on a logical sense, as we all know, Norte is a Filipino term. But I believe it is Tagalog also. Salitang Hiram mula sa Español. We adopt Tagalog as a National Language because it is spoken widely and later on we changed it to Filipino in effort to disassociate from the Tagalog (people). Kahit hindi "pure" Tagalog ang Norte, naintindihan at maiiintindihan rin naman nating lahat. It is acceptable. Sabi nyo Filipino ang Norte, so it is considerable na pwede sa Tagalog term ang salitang "Norte" dahil ang Tagalog ay ang ating Pambansang Wika, at ito ay Filipino. Therefore, Norte is tagalog. You get the point.

Tagalog kasi so tama sya. Masyadong vague ang tanong. Dapat included sa tanong ang word na analogy if we are looking for logical answer. Dapat ang tanong Sa “analogy” kung ang South ay Timog ano naman ang sa North. Therefore Hilaga ang sagot. But then the question was ano sa “tagalog”. Sa tagalog naman kasi talaga acceptable ang Norte. We have so many loan words from spanish so mahirap i-justify yan. This gonna be a debated topic if ever. Pero let’s stick sa tanong. They are searching for tagalog term and ayan binigay nya naman ng tama synonym nga lang o kasingkahulugan. 😀

Tagalog of north is norte or hilaga.. BUT IF WE SPEAK OF FILIPINO which is the national language... then
North is HILAGA.. at di pwede ang norte..
    Example:
Chair in tagalog is silya or upuan
But if you were to translate it to filipino.. then the right translation will be SALONG PUWIT.
I support the staff of showtime.. nagkaroon lng ng matagal na desisyon kya naging kumplikado..
Remember: filipino is the national language and not tagalog.. tagalog is a dialect in luzon area..
Strict translations will only be applied if the questions were asked in Filipino.. but it was clear.. the anology used is the TAGALOG VERSION.. so definitely, acceptable answer will be NORTE OR HILAGA.. because that is how tagalog is...

Basically pag tagalog ang magkakasama na dyan or kumbaga klasipikasyon ng direksyon ay Hilaga, Timog, Silangan at Kanluran. Since nabanggit na kung ang tagalog ng South ay Timog, automatic na ang sa North ay Hilaga.

NORTE is still acceptable, alam nio kung bakit, It started with the arrival in 1521 of European explorer Ferdinand Magellan sailing for Spain, which heralded the period when the Philippines was a colony of the Spanish Empire, and ended with the outbreak of the Philippine Revolution in 1898, at madami pa din tayong mga spanish words or phrases na ginagamit sa pang araw araw natin. So walang problema dyan. Ayan malinaw na siguro.

  • @jinkymarieabalos2447
    @jinkymarieabalos2447 6 лет назад +3

This is my opinion, we have a lot of borrowed words from the Spanish language that has been used for many years. This is not a big deal actually, since a lot of words in Tagalog was derived in Spanish and we actually use it more. Some words like, silya, the Tagalog for it is “salong puwit”, kalye is derived from the Spanish word “Calle”, Banyo is “Baño” in Spanish, but we use it anyway. Tagalog of Baño is Kasilyas. Which is used more, banyo or kasilyas? So for me this is not too much of an argument because there are a lot of words that we borrowed from the Spanish language that we have been accustomed to using. So don’t be too technical. Some of the words from Spanish were converted to Filipino alphabet, example is Silya, in Spanish the spelling is “Silla” (pronounced as si-ya) so we have converted it on our own tongue and alphabet. #justsaying
