Next year maybe do a dwarven princess inspired look? It seems like Hobbits and Elves get a lot of Renfaire looks, but the dwarves in their halls of stone need some more appreciation!
All the artisans! My husband and I are finally having our favorite tailor make us bespoke outfits for this year after buying off the rack from him for almost 20 years. Our leather jacks/mugs were made by a leather artist, but sadly he’s no longer with us. I had him make us the jacks with intertwined wedding rings and our wedding date on them as a surprise for my husband 26 years ago. Fortunately another leather artist regularly reseals them for us. Then there’s all the other accessories we don, all bought from artists.
Squirrel is so correct about real leather in hot weather. As a biker, my summer jacket is leather and its so much cooler than the textile one I used to use during summer even though the textile had big mesh section and openings. Love the video and outfit! Personally I preferred some of the other mugs they had, but it's as you said, it's what you like personally and if that was your favourite, then that's the perfect one for you!
Wow, I had no idea! I always thought bikers must be sweltering in their black leather in the July sun! (I don’t know any bikers so I’ve never been able to ask!)
Please do another one of these! Not only was your outfit great, but I’ve never been to a Renaissance fair and now I really want to go! It’s so fun seeing all of the lovely pieces you can buy!
Thank you for this video. It opened my eyes to the many "creative" businesses that have developed from the world of Renaissance Fairs. And I love to hear the word "artisans" used. It's so accurate. Thanks, again.
Ah, the Maryland renaissance festival! Seeing it again feels like home. I got my whole kit from unicorn clothing, they are very affordable and do plus sizes, even with their corsets
Ren faires are so funnnn! I volunteer at a yearly faire where I live and this Saturday and Sunday we have a thank-you weekend for the volunteers of last edition. I'm looking forward to it so much!
I'm definitly gonna have to buy a utility belt like the one Squirrel has. I've always been a huuge collector of random stuff I find like cool stones, lost jewelry, branches etc. and that would be so useful (not to mention cute!)
Thanks for making special mention of size inclusivity - I’ve been wanting to get more into sustainable clothing when I can afford it and the whole time watching your experience with Squirrel i was crossing my fingers. I get that with smaller brands and niche fashion they don’t always have the means to have plus-sided clothing, so when that came up it was a huge relief.
As a Romani person I am extremely happy to hear that our correct ethnic word was used as apposed to the slur that we are globally commonly referred to as, so even if you were just reading the label on the vest, thank you so much for using our correct terminology!
I absolutely loved the clothes you chose, particularly the velvet dress, it’s gorgeous!!! Also idk why when I saw that mug while the lady was explaining I was just like that’s the mug you will choose, how haven’t other people taken it? it’s so pretty wow I kinda want one, aaand then you chose it :) has it shown up in another video or something? Cause I instantly just knew lol.
This renfaire looks all around amazing. I love that it looks to be in the woods, with many large buildings around. It gives slight Oregon Country Faire Vibes. The only renfaire near me is in the middle of an open field during the hottest month. The burns were unreal. Definitely dream of going to a faire like this in the future. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Having participated in the original Renaissance Pleasure Faire in California at the beginning, from 1970 until 1980s as an artist, it was nice to see that you chose a great assortment of articles to make a very Renaissance costume. I hope next year you get the long jacket that called your name. Please make more videos. 20:33
I love the Maryland RenFest! I introduced going to the faire for my son (at the time we started going, he was 5). Giving him a budget to allow him to create his own costume was so much fun! I live overseas now and can't go. It was awesome to see it through your video. Thanks for sharing!
Love this! Definitely started my collection at Bullseye and Moresca! I always add a few more pieces every year to build up my collection for different themes - not always intending on full matching pieces. I love how much of a collection of things you got in just one haul!
My first ren faire, I bought most of a costume. It was actually a ton of fun to go booth the booth and having the shop keepers help add pieces(if they weren't too busy).
This is a great video! I have had this same thought before. Thank you for making it because I could never afford to do it. Every year I find good stuff for my costume and it changes overtime. Its interesting to see one costume come together over a single day.
That looked like so much fun. I would totally save up and go shopping at least once. Where is this place? I live in a state that's just starting to organize really good cons and festivals. I don't think we have anything like this. We might something civil war but nothing like this. I hope we get to see you go back for that amazing leather vest coat. Thank you for asking what their range of sizes are. I'm am a bigger size and I love watching your videos because you have such positive vibes and I feel that I learn a lot from you that I can adjust to fit myself. Keep shining, sunshine.
This video made me so happy, I'm vicariously living through you since we don't get as many Ren festivals here in Mexico, please do more videos like this
Oh I love this! I did a recent trip a week ago to start building a ren fair outfit. I didn't have as good of a vision (or wear it that day) but I'm looking forward to building it up over time. I love the artisans you can find at these places! We actually ended up with mugs from Goodly Woods as well! They are so nice and thats probably a lifetime kind of purchase. I LOVE how you can tell how passionate the artisans are about their craft and the history and that lovely passion for the pure fun of a good renaissance festival
Me: wonder which RenFaire they’re going to… 1:54 into the video: Looks like Maryland!!! Michigan is so similar though… Me: I might be a RenFest geek lol.
This was a refreshing video as all of the Washington Ren Faires are held in summer. Love seeing the various goods offered and how you brought the outfit to life over the course of the day!
You should do a video at the Maryland Renaissance Garb and Craft Sale. Great deals for all your Garb and Accessories. We hold it in July perfect for Opening day in August!
I'm so excited. I'm currently waiting for some jobs to reply so I can scounge some pocket change before we head to a new fair!! I only just now got around to watching this and immediately started flipping my gourd when I realized that that's the Renaissance festival near my apartment and the one I've been going to since I was in diapers! I'm actually really happy that you made this because I still have yet to buy Ren faire garb and because this particular Ren Faire is so huge, it's very easy to miss shops. I'm glad to see Potomac leatherworks get some love and I am definitely writing down a list for when I inevitably have to shop before this year's Ren Faire ❤❤
This is my local ren faire!! In my state!! It's the best one!! I am so glad seeing other people love it so much. It is home & where I consider my family to be.
Shocked how big and beautiful this faire is! I've only gone to my local one the last 25 years or so and it's just 2 or 3 rows of tents out in a field. I can't believe there are ren faires out there that are full on real towns! I must go to one this grand some day~

Very much appreciate the lass who was explaining about the Tara Brooch throwing in the whole oppression bit by the Brits. Tis something that gets glossed over a lot and I wanted to reach through the screen & hug her when she mentioned that bit about Queen Vic. 💚💚
I have never been to a Ren Faire, but I’ve recently learned about their existence and as a girl who enjoys fantasy this seems like a fun summer activity! I’m telling my mom about this tomorrow!
i haven't been to a ren faire in over a decade, but this makes me want to go back so badly. i just hope that by the time i can go again, I'll have the funds to build an outfit like this!
Loved watching your renn faire outfit come to life!! I love the renn faire but have never put together a full outfit at the faire--looks like so much fun. You picked amazing pieces that you can wear and restyle so many ways, and I'm actually surprised that you got the full outfit, a mug, and other accessories for $805.
I wanna go to a ren faire in costume so badly because I've never gone to one but I don't live near any places that host renfaires and I'm not exactly financially right to look for renfair fits 😭 👍 Ig I'ma js stick to thrifting and making fits at home 💀

I hope to go to this year. If you ever get the chance, there is a booth in the far back left corner of the fair that sells discounted corsets if you ever wanted to give them a try.
You'd have a wonderful time here in the UK. We do multiperiod battles etc in actual medieval castles. They have all stalls out, and people doing medieval crafts. The last time I went to one it was a place called Kirby hall. An Elizabethan country house, and they did this 16th century procession , and they had a woman dressed as Elizabeth 1st on horseback , white face and everything. Against the back drop of this tall 16th century country house, it gave me goosebumps. She looked bloody amazing !!!
Huzzah for supporting local artists! I’d love to know which faire you were at. Ours is the Minnesota faire and I’ve been patronizing it since the 80s. I even worked for a friend of mine who was a pen/ink and watercolor artist for several years. I have wool capes and ponchos from Half Moon Traveler, belts, pouches and mug straps from Renaissance Leather, many hair toys from The Bronze Jewelers (look them up online, you’ll love them), jewelry from several artists, a handmade parasol, hand dyed silk scarves and many pieces of garb from a tailor friend. He’s making us bespoke outfits this spring for our faire this year. I’m so excited!
I love Potomac! I couldn't helping going in every time I went this year. Another good option for mugs is D&U leather Mugs. Very reasonably priced. That out looks amazing!! Definitely fits within the Ranger theme! :)
Potomac is great!! This was actually only the second time I'd been in, I'd somehow missed it the first half of this season! And ty for the mug suggestion, I'll look for them next year 😊
I used to go to the MD renfest every year when I was younger but it got to be too many people. It was the only place that made me feel like I was home (outside of my home, of course, lol) but watching this made me want to go again! I'd definitely have to save up some money as well. I really loved looking, touching, and buying the furs and also the....I dunno what they're called...the little creatures whose heads can move. Lol, there is a shop that makes dragons, cats, phoenixes, and the like. I have over 10 of them! Anyway, I really liked watching this video!
Ah I think this is actually more like a low-medium budget version 😅 definitely could easily go into thousands of dollars if I'd done more jewelry and accessories! I'll do some more research though and see if I can come up with something less expensive. Tbh the low budget option is more likely repurposing thrift store finds, but that would also be a fun video!
I agree with Minji, this probably is the low budget version. Bringing not-real-leather pieces you’ve bought/made would be a lot cheaper. Since all the stuff is artisanal, it’s all going to be expensive because you’re paying what it is really worth. You can’t get cheap prices because the workers pay themselves living wages.
If budgets are such an issue, and if you'd like to make improvments, then the thing to do may be to make the outfit a multi-year project, and simply make additions and upgrades each season.
Squirrel seemed like such a delight, you can tell that's a person who genuinely really loves what they do for work
I loved Squirrel so much!! they were so sweet and so helpful 🥰
I love squirrel so so much 😭
Planning on going this year, can’t wait to check out this shop and meet the infamous Squirrel!❤
Next year maybe do a dwarven princess inspired look? It seems like Hobbits and Elves get a lot of Renfaire looks, but the dwarves in their halls of stone need some more appreciation!

Deep approval for supporting the local renfaire and artisans ❤ You hear that algorithm? LOCAL ARTISANS.

Squirrel is my roommate lol it's so fun to see her in a video I love her so much
aah I love Squirrel! I just filmed another one of these so she'll be making another appearance soon 😊❤
This whole video is just goals. Every time I go to fare I have to remind myself that adult money is only fun if you can pay your bills 😂
lmaoooo that is so real, i need to like tattoo that somewhere on my body
As someone who lives nowhere near a ren fest, it's really delightful to come on a shopping trip with you at the Ren Faire!
Aw thank you I'm glad you liked it!
This is the MD renaissance festival, my local Renfaire!! So cool that you were able to go!
It’s one of my favorites !
Love MD ren faire!!! My home faire is Sterling ren!!

Aww I love the mix of renaissance vibes and putting together an outfit simultaneously
I love how she got increasingly more and more excited the more pieces she acquired and pieced together. Also, I love squirrel

On a word - beautiful - Outfit.
Penannular Brooches are actually so cool and useful for shawls!
Bravo!
They are most fun.
Loving the garb you put together.
