      Apart from the Boks 57-0 I think it has to be the worst weekend in SA rugby history. The Blitzboks were an embarrassment as well. @rothnieoosthuizen3728 Год назад +2

      @@markdanielleanderson4323 nah, we've had worse. I think the issue is that we had high hopes and expectations, so it hurts more. There's been times in the past where weekends like this were standard fair.
      Travelling across hemispheres on short turnarounds, will be challenging for most teams. No excuses, it's just the reality of the comp. More emphasis must be placed on the pool stages to ensure at least a home semi.
      Just a thought buddy. embarrassment is a word used by fair weather fans. If we are to be true supporters, we should do better. It hurts like a motherfucker, but we should not be embarrassed when our teams come up short. Rassie's antics, fans whining about refs, that's embarrassing. Players leaving it all out there and coming up short, not so much.

      In my opinion Damien Willemse did everything he could and the mistakes he made was due to having no support from our wings.
      I cant recall an instance where our wings were in position ONCE when Exeter kicked. Just like with the Boks this unhealthy obsession with having our wings come in and defend on the inside is costing our rugby big time. No other nation does this and the wings are always in their positions and it shows. This tactic is going to be our downfall if there isn't change soon. Thats just my take away. But having your fullback covering the entire backfield while the wings cant even defend and miss tackles where they are supposed to defend is seriously costing our teams and every opposition team has figured it out.

      @S B I'm wondering would the logical thing to do would be to split the season in two parts? Have the South African teams tour Europe for 8 weeks and then have the next 8 weeks of fixtures at home in the URC with the Irish, Welsh, Scots and Italians travelling down? It would certainly reduce travel fatigue, emissions etc. If we're serious about climate change too seriously. Seems to be a lot of obvious solutions that no one is thinking of

    • @SB-th8uc
      @SB-th8uc Год назад

      @@stevenh7842 I think there is merit in that approach. If it means South African sides who travel to Europe are fresher, and vice versa, then it's a good thing to think about. Some of those Stormers players looked tired today (but Exeter were excellent).

    • @stevenh7842
      @stevenh7842 Год назад +1

      @@SB-th8uc absolutely. Player welfare should be paramount. I've always found it counterproductive having South African teams play one or two matches away in Europe only to go back for 2 weeks and travel again. Surely there's a better way of managing that. 2-3 months is a long time to be away from home, but surely it's the best way, make one big trip, play a series of matches. Which of course will be a long, gruelling tour, but then you're at home for the rest of the season. It's something that World Rugby, URC need to look at. It seems logical to me anyway

    Those English bums as they have been called repeatedly in recent times did ok today, maybe just maybe they play in a very competitive league, none as good as the best French teams and Leinster at the moment however they don't have 9 million plus to spend on their playing squad and they don't have all their best players concentrated in a few teams which makes a big difference, tremendous effort Exeter and well done the English, be proud.

      Good for Exeter you showed through stormers a rugby lesson today, but if you want to complain about player salaries I don't think you have anything to stand on as a bunch of your players are earning upwards of 5-6 million pounds per year and that's basically more than the Bull's whole squad salary across URC and champions cup

  • @BonuxCouleur
    @BonuxCouleur Год назад +4

    From a pure sport's point of view the addition of the South African franchises cannot be criticized, now from a players safety and a supporters viewpoint, they have been clearly left out of the equation. I am thinking about our French internationals who have near zero resting and recuperation time, when they get injured we lose them for 6 to 12 months, quite frankly it is hardly the way to go. For players to have to travel half the planet when they already play 2 to 3 games a week in the Top 14 is stupendous. Racing and Bordeaux got smashed in South Africa so clearly we are not seeing the best teams on both sides of the Equator. Besides, what supporter could afford the time and money to travel to the other side of the equator week in week out? Clearly this deal has been made solely between the ERC and the South African union to milk the cash cow and get more TV rights. Once again rugby is cutting itself from its root and that cannot be good. The European Cup was successful as it was, sure new exciting franchises gave it a bit of refresh but again the ERC have cut European supporters out of their game. For the Saffa supporters it makes no difference because they had to travel to New Zealand and Australia anyway so their Union does not care, no loss there. The ERC however should have known better. Too much greed in rugby right now and I am pretty sure we all want to see the best teams with their best players in shape.
