Yeah, even if his care wasn’t the best and there were a lot of flaws not to mention he impulse bought Remy, but he was still mature enough to realize he wasn’t equipped to taking care of Remy and decided to give him to another home which is MUCH better than what most “popular” RUclipsrs are willing to do to any animal they impulse purchased let alone a rat.
Hope Remy is living his best life with hopefully other ratties ❤️ (if he ever did get neutered ofc)

    3. Please cover the stairs and floors as they’re feet could get trapped or it could hurt them (could get bumblefoot)

Many people have mentioned rats needing other rats to bond with, so I'll throw in another small but very useful tip for rat care... hide aways! Rats love hiding places. You should put lots of places for rats to hide in their enclosure, it makes them feel safe and it stimulates their instincts in a fun way going from one hiding spot to another. It's very easy to get creative with them, too! There are specific ones like sputniks(a plastic toy that can stand on the cage floor or hang from bars), hammocks, plastic igloos, ferret tubes, etc.. If you can't access these for whatever reason, that's fine! Your average dollarstore will have lots of things like tiny plastic buckets and such. You can also use small cardboard boxes... if you have a confident rat, you will often see them roaming, but when they wanna nap nothing is cuter than walking by the cage and seeing a couple tails hanging out of a hammock from a rat slumber party.

MATURE would be if he did not buy rat at the first place... I thought he is teenager because of his behaving and looking younger but as an adult person he should know that first you should think if you can take of animal... In this point, I really think he bought him just for the sake of video for likes and views... which is a disgusting move .. Like you can not buy animal It is cute I want it.. He is my age and I can not imagine anyone around me of our age doing something immature, selfish an unresponsible to animals... If he will not do research and buy animals for fun or because it is cute, I hope he wont buy any other animals. The animals do have feelings and you should firstly be prepared for it like for child not just get it and not knowing what next and do not investe time in proper preparing. Luckily he had rat just for a little time because alredy he did a massive mistake taking it outside. This could cost the rat health because they are sensitive on dust and wind and it could give them respiratory problems on which the rats are sensitive.

I'm so glad someone else has said this. There's more studies being shown that it was actually humans spreading the plague.
Wild rats can carry some nasties but so does every wild animal. Domesticated rats are good and should only get nasties if they've been outside. You do have to watch out for rat bite fever and it's always good to excersise caution when cleaning their bedding but other than that they shouldn't have diseases.
They can catch ringworm and rat lice though, that's why it's always good to quarantine any new rats in the house for two weeks before introing to the current mischief

Tip for those who are thinking of owning rats or already own some: You should have more than one, I recommend two since they like to stay in groups and are very social creatures. Just make sure they are both the same gender so you don't have to worry about them fighting. Also, DO NOT use the bedding that Ben used in the video. Rats have very sensitive noses, so don't use wood chipping. If you would like more tips, let me know! 😊

I feel this, so glad he did the right thing and yes it’s such a painful choice to give up a pet for that reason. I was in the process of re homing my rats because I developed an allergy to them over time, hives, itchy eyes, coughing, sneezing and all that. I had like 7 months to bond with them before I knew I was allergic and I couldn’t give them up at that point. They have a great life don’t get me wrong and I’m definitely responsible, but my issue remains in the painful hives that I break out into every time I clean their cage or take them out to play. For me it is worth the sacrifice to keep my babies but there are all sorts of valid and heartbreaking reasons someone might have to re home a pet.

For people who are looking to get a rat as a pet here is a helpful tip (from someone who owns multiple rats themselves) when you are looking to buy a new fuzzy friend make sure you buy two or more as rats are pack animals and can get depressed when by themselves. You can tell when your fuzzy friend is loney when they stop eating or drinking. Its a very sad fact but it happened to my friend after one of her rats passed before the other had. I'll let you know though that rats are very clingy, love attention, and live to cuddle with one another! But make sure you do the propper research before purchasing one as it may take you by surprise when half of your closet gets eaten by your new friend...... Its okay though I still love him! (Sometimes) hope this helps!!! (Also I don't think you guys care but my rats names are Remy, and Dedenne (yes after the Pokemon and the movie rat) and the newest one is goop)

Rodents such as squirrel and rats teeth never stop growing so it's nice for them to have something to chew on. Those are his balls. All rodent males have huge balls, usually as big as their heads. I had a pet rat named Blondie, she was as smart as any dog, loved us all. They are one of the few rodents who have attachments to their human, love to be tickled, even come when you call them. But their pee smells horrible, their bedding etc is the most important thing to them. Feathering their nest and finding stuff (like clothes) to break down into fluff to pad their nest is important to them. The 'rats nest' so to speak, what they truly love. Mine would watch the curtains blow near her cage, she would constantly try to grab it. She had a 3 story pen, which was on its own shelf. Once she got use to us, I left the top of cage open and she would climb up and out and sit at the end of that shelf to watch her "Fam." One time she slipped and fell off and I didn't know it, she saw me and climbed on my shoeless foot to see "Ma" me... I didn't know it was her, and flew her in the air. She forgave me. She did get those curtains one time, and was heading to her nest with them in her mouth. I said "Drop it!" And she did! They eat anything, will even eat wet or dry cat food, but not good to give them meat. Makes them stink more. Seeds, all sorts of foods they will grab from your hand. They are truly remarkable, smart, will love you till the day they die. Which unfortunately is only 3 or so years. Blondie lived 4 years, they get tumors all the time which have to be removed by understanding Vet. The last huge one was a mess, and she had to be put to sleep because of it. Otherwise, she was truly a beautiful souled 'dog rat' and a learning experience. "Rumors of a maligned creature are not true. They have a beautiful soul, and will love you till the day they die."

He made the right choice, it’s hard a lot of the time and I’m so selfish I’d never let him go, you did what’s best for remy and that’s more than some of us can image, I can’t describe how much I love that you did what you thought was right even if it meant you’d be sad ❤

Tough decision but you did the right thing. Like all the other posters are saying, simply make sure you get at least a pair, and just set up the right amount of space for 'em. U clearly are a loving rat person, and they'll pick up on it right away. Don't give up. A few good rats deserve a loving home!

Aw, Ben... I know that it must have been really hard, especially growing an attachment to him. I'm sure, one day, you will find the courage and take that leap of faith to try again when you feel that you have improved whatever it was that you feel you were lacking, and not only take care of a rat, but give it love, a home, and loads of cuddles. ❤

  • @ofekk213
    @ofekk213 6 месяцев назад

You should've done your research about pet rats. They are social, curious animals that need a lot of special care. Pet rats are also very clean and gentle animals, you could've absolutely pick him up bare handed and cuddle him.
I'm glad you made the responsible decision to return him home, you can tell he was stressed in your cage because he cowered into a small corner scared. I can tell your love for Remi was genuine, so here is a tip for the future: do your research about pet rats and watch videos about them, when you understand more about them than get two or three pet rats.

I hope one day you can get your Remy back and feel better about yourself in raising a rat ❤

@@ItzEvelyn2 I left my chick outside with her sisters while I went in for lunch- the place we keep them was barricaded from my dog- but I guess he got too tempted and broke the barricade somehow and killed her [the other two survived- he probably didn't see them because they were smaller]. I was so sad, but this was a few years ago so I'm alright now😅😅

Ben its okay to make mistakes! When i first became a hamster owner i made tons of mistakes like introducing her to my dig but those are things that happen! It was your first time taking care of something and you cant just be great at it instantly, you have to do research and learn simultaneously.
