Thank you everyone for your kindness & patience.
Update: I'm now engaged to that man.
So that's why you added a backsound. It's your fluttering heart 😄
Congratulations!!!❤️❤️
Congratulations to you both 💕
Congratulations!!!
Congratulations
Little tip my mom taught me for when you're adding flour to thicken a sauce or gravy. You can mix the flour with a little bit of cold water to make a slurry and then add that to the hot gravy. You never get any lumps, it's very helpful!
Or room temp butter, to get a butterball also is a good thickener.
exactly
Thank you ❤️
Milk works really well if it's white gravy. You can use it in cream corn as well!
Alternatively, you can sautee the flour with the bacon/sausage/chicken drippings to cook the flour. Then add water, stock or milk. Less of a floury taste this way.
This must have been a special meal for a special occasion. I cannot imagine they had access to oranges, chopped almonds, and all those vegetables every day!
They are well to do, the husband is a banker I think, Justine is a house maid,
@scottbaino They are courting, he is the woodcutter, that delivers the chopped wood.
@scottbaino She is a homemaker.
Definitely NOT in America. This country has limited access to so much. That’s why they went to Africa and stole so much now we call Africa a poor country! LMAO
@@yochiedani7004 Africa has nothing but animal parts, mineral deposits, and corruption
My back would hurt after bending over the fire all day. I cannot get enough of these videos. I go back in time when I watch these. Thank you for doing these.
Love the sounds of cooking as much as watching what she's fixing!
Cooking sounds and Bob Ross are the best ASMR 💙
The lady is simple, adorable, very feminine and sweet! Looking at her in all the movies is very peaceful, a pleasure. Thank you for being there!🤗
These kind of videos are really therapeutic. Also, her dress is very lovely.
These videos are so relaxing to me. I had a horrible day and this is really helping:)
Just want to say, I love your name. My favorite song is “A rainy night in Georgia”, by the one and only. ❤️
Sometimes it just isn't your day.
Food after life is the most precious gift we have on this earth. Seeing food processed and cooked as it once was amplifies its value more. Respect for food is sacred in yours home. I would like to be there with you, to travel through time and eat pieces of history. Cheers, Domenico.

I miss the days back in 1820's when i didn't exist!
@Pranav Gopal absolutely no! Just like my life :)
Yea those were the days weren't they
Get a serious toothache and see what happens to u in 1820. No way in hell I'd live in those days.
@@larryfeyler4824 You say that now 200 year’s latr.. lol
@@Himlee335 Obviously. A guy 200 years in the future will pity our tortured existance.
I can't imagine all the burns people had on their hands and fingers from cooking like that back then
Maybe only a little more than people get today... since most cooks were women, they used their aprons to pick up hot dishes and (having personally done this with authentic 1770s apron/clothing) I can say it's about as effective as any hand towel that chefs today use. (Not as effective as those thick wool/rubber oven mitts, but chefs from what I know avoid those because it makes you much clumsier in a crowded kitchen where emphasis is on speed and agility to get meals out quick).
Only a couple before you got smart about it
I get Burns practically every time I cook a holiday meal! LOL
Most people who cook often don't feel the heat anymore tbh
Or have her skirt catch fire!
This is somewhat what our modern culture is missing...the joy and process of actually preparing meals with one another...not only does it stir up ones appetite madly but it instills a sense of teamwork and effort...all while producing a very nourishing and satisfying end result
Im with you there
Having grown up in Williamsburg, Virginia, this was all very familiar to me. Although we did not live in the restored area of town, it’s amazing to see how much of Colonial life actually seeped into the culture of the present-day town. From pewter mugs, the stoneware, to bowls and utensils that all looked exactly like what I would have seen in my own home as a child. Even their costumes are familiar because there were so many people that worked in CW and dressed in 18th Century garb, that it was a common sight anywhere in town.
Delicious looking dinner. Love how people set the table so nice back then even for an every day meal. ❤️
Yes
Me too! My Grandmother always set her table like this.
They had the time. No distractions and no TV or internet! Simple living. ❤️
Yes deliciouse☺
That was basically a Sunday meal. We still did that every week on Sunday in my family, until we all moved away from home, and my wife's large family has that tradition still going on.
Sound: 1st
Costume: 2nd
Scenery 3rd
Nothing will go right without proper sound . You did an amazing job.
She’s a really good cook,I love watching her prepare meals for her loving husband.
I LOVE IT! No explanation. Just demonstration. Not like that! LIKE THIS! And tomorrow - I am going to make this dish MYSELF. Including the PORK STEAKS! Excellent. Thanks, Earl American for the inspiration.
this must have been a "special occasion " dinner fore people back then :-) I appreciate you for reenacting !!
I could live like that.
Just me and my husband with no TV
no cell phone no social media. And food that actually looks like real food 😁
What a lovely house, I wish I can live in this house.
New viewer here. I noticed one small thing: we are used to eating meals when everything is hot at once. This kitchen would have cold mashed potatoes, lukewarm asparagus, lukewarm or room temperature veggies (from the gravy) and one hot chop. Because there is no refrigeration of any kind, cooking would have to go on all day. A meal like this one would be a feast for the average American frontier household, since it includes an orange, cream, nuts, pork chops, etc.
But cooking was literally an all-day thing?
I thought the same thing. We are spoiled in today's time.
There was a dutch oven in the chimney / fireplace and it can be kept warm in there.
I was thinking that this would be a very wealthy family’s cuisine
Rich had ice refrigerator..look up videos on historic ice use..
I would love to cook in that kitchen!
Awwww, I really like your cooking :) It looks like warm cooking from mother to their kids. I found your channel yesterday and waiting for your next cooking vdo.

My 3rd great grandparents were married in1826 so I enjoy a small glimpse into their lives. I think cooking like this would be hard doing it day after day! I don't envy them.
It was hard work, but maybe spending each day cooking wholesome food in a way might be more pleasant than modern life such as rushing in traffic being in a stressful job like nursing, and then still having to come home to housework etc.
I know what incredibly grueling and hard work this was and yet Justine makes me want to escape the 21st century and travel back in time to be a kitchen maid.
I don’t blame you cooking is relaxing 😌 now days people can’t cook and buy fast food almost every day
Not really that grueling. Just a bit time consuming
Me too
its interesting cuz unlike now where we rush to eat, eating back then was much more of delicacy and people would take time to enjoy the food and the time it takes to make it.
Same here. Like I know how hard it was to do but honestly I just wish I didnt have to be in the 21st century
I love it was very soothing to watch a very clean-cut cooking food 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Ron really likes carrots
Ron really likes....everything! lol xoxo

Hello, I found your Chanel on RUclips today and I watched VERY much videos from you. I enjoyed it. I think, life in the Victorian age was not easy but people learned to do everything with patience. That’s a contrast to our „running“ world. I love, how you do everything so calm and give everything the time it takes. And: I am really hungry now. It must be very cozy to sit around a table as a family and enjoy the meal.
Geez this meal looks amazing!!! Well done!!
This is a great channel to watch. I can’t imagine how hard everyday life would have been and then have to prepare meals.
Yet to them, it wasn't.
Everything has to be made in stages. Only so much room on the fire. Love the vessels to hold the food, bowls and cookware. Very cozy and I'm sure cooking over a open fire made everything more delicious 😋❤️
Cooking in cast iron does make the food taste better. I have a cast iron skillet I cook in on my gas hob and I find it tastes so much more flavoursome than using stainless steel.
Me thinkest Ron has his eye on more that the stew !
Agree!
The lady or that dessert???? LOL
I just love this kind of open fire cooking, just beautiful. How wonderful it would be to be sitting there in the kitchen, so warm and cosy
Yes wood fire cooking i miss it

@@ruxanajewoon517 yummy in my tummy :-), yes, spicy fish curry is really nice during winter time!
I have watched your love story three times now! Good cooking and two sweethearts! Heartwarming,,
I know the names of some grandparents who lived in the early nineteenth century. It's great fun and very interesting to see some of the things they would have done. The dinner looked great but I can see why severe burns to women were such a problem back then. I have read that burns, and I suppose resulting infections, were a leading cause of death. Love every episode.
That and diarrhea
Thank you for these videos. It's been a nice little break from everything that's going on in the world.
I love this channel so much 👏🏼

Wow..the dessert is superb.!😍😍👍
This was soooo much fun to watch! And what a beautiful table setting. Love the channel.👍❤❤❤
That grate set in the coals on which to cook the meat is a must have!
I love the antique cooking tools Justine uses! Of course they were NOT antiques then or maybe some were! Things didn't change that much back then.
Her face captures true authentic happiness of the era.
Feeling so blessed living in the modern world 🌻
They were modern in their time and probably felt the same lol I can only imagine what life would be like 200 years from now.
I’m so grateful for my microwave 🥲
Good old fashioned cooking and tastes a lot better too!
My wife is currently learning to pressure can on a wood Monarch cookstove. As you have stated..it's a very hit chore to do in the Summers heat.
This brings me back to the late 80s being on my grandparents farm..the woodstove was so cozy and the thick cast iron pots cooking fresh farm food...rotary phone ringing occasionally at the end of the mysterious hallway.....what a time it was
That looks a tasty meal. The spent bacon could be rendered and turned into bits.. then the fat used to season asparagus. Actually, if I had a hearth. l think cooking like this would be fun and challenging. Thanks for all you do in creating these educational videos for us. 🇺🇸
I believe is great going back to the 18 century because we never know if we have an earthquake, some type of world calamity and need to go back in time to survive. I know how to grow my own food for 35 years, know how to start a fire between rocks without a modern grill, fix some things around the house, and many other things. Let's hope is not necessary.
I once, when I lived in Wales, was invited to a friend's house for the weekend. His mother did jacket potatoes in a coal heated aga. They were the best tasting jacket potatoes (baked) I've ever tasted! The potatoes in this video reminded me of that.
Saw this, had to watch and subscribe. Like to see hearth cooking- a real skill, and the food looks tasty. Would you consider doing some videos on: how to cook on a hearth, essential kitchen tools and skills, a kitchen garden, and a link to where to buy some of the supplies (the hanging skillet)? Great channel!
This is a great idea!
Look up Townsends on youtube. They have years worth of 18th century hearth cooking, AND sell reproduction cookware on their website.
Im up at 3am and this is where I find myself lol. Somewhere peaceful. Ty
Greetings from Romania!🇷🇴🤗
I love your channel and your videos so much!❤❤❤
Have a nice day everyone!🤗😘
I love watching you. I wish I could have lived in those days. Life was so much simpler.
It may have been simpler but much more difficult and more dangerous.
if you were white
Not really😕😕 it seems like it from this video but times were really really tough
It's nice to see Ron earn his carrot coins by helping you. Love every episode.
Except he was practically useless in this
it looks so ridiculously fun to cook over a fire like that, I wish I had a house with a hearth like it 😊
I enjoyed your show. So impressed with not only the cooking but how at ease U were cooking. Can not wait for more. Your a natural.

I always worry about your skirt catching fire when you are cooking! Wonderful supper!
Many Women in this time period often accidentally did catch their cloths on fire. They either died or the ones who survived suffered from their injuries for the rest of their lives.
@@pamelacox967 You beat me to it. Yes, many women died each year from cooking fires during this era. It was common. A strange story from my family tree: One of my distant cousins in the 1800s died from another cooking accident. Her obit said she was cutting up a rabbit for dinner. The knife slipped and she got cut badly. Infection them set in and she died about a week later from the infection.
I worry about that very same thing. Or slipping and falling in the fireplace. 😳

Yes; there were no such thing as Sanitary & Sterilization way back in History. Sadly; The majority of Surgeon's in War never knew of the Importance of it. I Love all and anything to do about History. I've often wondered & wanted to live in another Time Period; but my want for knowledge overrode that thought pretty quickly.

Those Dangers were very Prevalent back then. It was a Fact of Life.
Thankyou how wonderful love your videos and the food looks so delicious
Can you please do a video like a historical example of a day in the life for a common couple living in that cabin, but not only cooking. Like what time they would wake up, what first chores need to be done, getting the water…washing dishes…caring for the kitchen utensils..? Lol idk stuff that they would do historically and the reason they’d be completely exhausted by the end of the day.
Very smartly dressed woodcutter! The family must pay their employees well!😄
Or indentured servants.
Delicious looking meal. Really enjoyed this food preparation. I love the old ways. I would really enjoy having that open hearth fireplace in my kitchen. I would definitely have to try cooking some meals in it.
So nice to have a fireplace
Very interesting topic that is presented really well. Thank you!
The wood cutter seems awfully comfortable in the kitchen alone with the woman of the house. ;-)
This is how we cook in the province in the Philippines.
Yes.. 🙂
We dont care
Yeah!
That all looked so good Justine.
All thefood looks delisious!!! Makes me hungry for open hearth cooked food!! That desert !!! YUM!!!
So idyllic and nice session of cooking. Enjoying the new cast of character too :)

Que bien la comida más natural con leña y gracias por compartir 😊 saludos desde Durango México
I had to run out and buy an angel food cake just so I could squeeze oranges on it. It was TASTY!!!
I remember camping for weeks at a time growing up. I cannot imagine how rewarding life would have been then. In terms of how so many people just eat fast food, watch tv etc. Life is OVERLY simple....or OVERLY complicated.
Life was probably simpler but also much shorter for many . For example, A simple cut on the finger could become infected, become blood poisoning and then sepsis , death. It was common to die of infected cuts, ect.
@@lisad1532 it actually wasn't that much shorter, they just had higher infant mortality rates
Ah yes, the good ol' days where women would spend hours cooking or doing laundry because the machines that did those things didn't exist yet. Laundry was literally a multi-day process.
@@CaravelClerihew exactly, well said, truth
Agreed...life was hard work, and it's reward was family, friends, a good harvest and a roof.....simple and made you appreciate the little things. Today, we are overrun with meaningless needs and wants....give me the old ways anyday.
Amazing dinner and dessert! You can cook for me anytime!😊
I love watching your cooking videos. That period of time seams so simple yet there was lots of work involved. Your meals look so delicious !
I was a re-enactor for many years and a blacksmith. I thought you might enjoy a company:Smiling Fox Forge. They sell complete 1800’s items and clothing.James Townsends and son is also good!
Thanks dor these amazing vids
I would like there to be more thematic places where we could plunge into history and travel back centuries. somewhere remote from people. where can you feel it all
Hey young man and lady very nice break fast
This is very interesting thank you! Cheers from Sydney Australia
this cideo clip is like a movie.
I love it,^^
It is funny that back then they did not have much and used expensive plates and today we have so much and use paper plates.
Australians don’t use paper plates. When I started watching recipe videos here on RUclips about 18 months ago I was so freaked out by all the paper plates that are just wasted by Americans. It’s so unnecessary. It’s not hard to wash a dish, and there are seriously cheap dinner sets out there. You could save a fortune!
Who uses paper plates? Not Europeans at least
Looks divine. I bet people back then appreciated food more so then than we folk do now, all the waste of food and drink, such a shame
Finally keep it going this is very knowledgable thank you so much
If you roast the vegetables and bacon before cooking them in water, the grav will be much richer and more flavorful. And after they're cooked for the gravy, you can still crisp up the bacon over the fire and eat it, too.
It proves bacon has always made everything better:)

Hallo🌹🌺🌹🌺🌹 Hi
Don't forget to snap off the tough ends of the asparagus! 😃
I wondered about that as well.
And peel the potatoes lol
Unchaperoned! Gasp!😉

Yo Ron, stop eating all the carrots! 😂
Usually the cook is full before plating the food because of all the tasting etc.....not here....not with Ron around 😂😂...
