If you want tips on getting better at building. Its good to use reference pictures of what you want to build specifically non-Minecraft pictures. I have found that most people improve because they have to be creative to build/detail something from real life in Minecraft and it gives them a better understanding of what blocks go together and whatnot. Another way to get a better understanding of building is to decide what block types you are gonna use before building, for example: "i wanna build something with the oak blocks, deep slate blocks and quartz" and then you actually start building sticking to your chosen blocks as much as possible.
