Our big family had a stereo with a record player that was always playing music. I was the R & B guy in the family. All my brothers and sisters would go around the house singing "Joy and Pain". I wondered why the band was not more famous and travel all over, but I heard Frankie Beverly did not like to fly like me too. They obviously did get around a lot, probably by bus. I had their albums, and this song still sounds really good. They are very talented.
I get so mad when the Grammys and the American Music awards comes on. And to think some of the greatest entertainers in the music industry never got a Grammy. Frankie Beverly and Maze is one of the groups that were much deserving of not one award but many. I stopped watching those programs because of that fact .. But in 1977 was had my stereo hooked up on the garage playing one of their albums. And back in about 1986 me and my wife worked all day just so we’d have the money to go attend a concert in the Myriad in Oklahoma City featuring Maze. I think we saw Cameo first and they took the place apart. But when Maze came on their with the percussion instruments and that brother with them dark glasses, it was own. Before the night was over Frankie has us standing and waving our hands . It such a memorable night I couldn’t wait to pickup the double live version so I could enjoy it all over again.
