- Councils have been accused of pursuing a “scorched-earth strategy” as they slashed housebuilding targets in anticipation of a Labour government.

Research seen by The Times shows that local authorities have cut plans to build thousands of homes by taking advantage of Michael Gove’s planning changes. It creates a serious obstacle to Sir Keir Starmer’s pledge to build 1.5 million homes within the first term of a Labour government.

poor income. thats the reality. If you dont meet your "affordability" then you have no choice but to rent these places. Private landlords dont want "DSS" they want earned income only.

Wait until Labour get in, double migration and everything flatlines
It's full of third world chancers.
My takeaway from watching the housing crisis in the UK, is that women should forget about having children, unless they are mega rich. Children should not have to go through this deprivation. It’s just the way life is now.
Anyone who wants children shouldn't live in London. You don't have to be "mega rich" to raise children in other areas of the UK.
Nobody should have more than 2 children in this overcrowded world.
Three children from 3 different fathers, probably.
Sorry..I wasn't aware that it was just women who have children? Surely there's a man involved too? In the 21st century are we still hearing women being blamed for having children as though they do this in a vacuum?
Or how about not being MARRIED first 🤷🏾♂️
Remember walking past this in 2020 and was so shocked that this was allowed. It was the heat of summer I never felt so sorry for those poor people living inside.
The poor need to leave London immediately to other areas. Once the London wealthy realise no one is doing the hard graft and servant roles, they will soon sort issues like these out.
They'll just import more, the govenment needs to fear the people once more.

Bad decisions lead to bad outcomes.
Instead of creatong cheap flimsy temporary places as such, they could build permanent good durable homes.
It is bad asset management, poor planning, and clearly gross lack of general leadershyskills. Who is suffering as a result? Innocent people, vulnerable prople, the general public.
It is time to put credible leaders in charge, and get rid of incompetence.

It's classism plain and simple. The wealthy running the country think poor people should just work harder or have the right friends. They are either willfully or ignorantly disconnected from reality. Selfish, greedy, classism is what it is

London is not affordable especially west and central. South is barely affordable to get a house at a reasonable price you have to think of moving out of London. Also having all these children with no secure place is a bad idea, I know people that just keep having children with hopes of getting a bigger council house. It's ridiculous. It's the children that suffer.
@@CCOMAT If everyone who cant afford london moves out of london then north wont be affordable no more either.
You can stop it by not letting them in to start with
People need to stop thinking housing is just given to them, it’s not a permanent fix. It should always be temporary whilst you get yourself back on your feet. Then move out to get your own property or private rent.
For those saying that this person isn’t homeless/doesn’t live in a slum so should ‘be thankful’, it’s really not a huge ask to have affordable and adequate housing in a city like London. Perhaps some of us should try living in that container and see if we’re ‘thankful’.
I feel like the words 'affordable' and 'London' just dont really go together though!😁
It is a huge ask though since the more affordable the housing in London the more people would want to live in London.
@@TheGirlInGlasses Call me crazy, but I don't think any city should be where only the rich can afford to live, and I think this causes massive problems in itself. Granted, London will always be more expensive than other parts of the UK regardless (it's a major city after all) and many will simply not need or want to live there. And yes, London has a lot of immigration (an issue within this in itself), but there are many people who unfortunately are being priced out of the places they grew up in too.
Where's her husband?
It is with uncontrolled and unlimited mass legal.and illegal immigration. London is 62% immigrant derived population mostly within two generations as in 1974 London was 97% white British with the main immigrants being Irish.
How come Brits never confront the Royal Family? That is were all the money for the housing is going. To them and their friends.
It’s sad to see this lady living like this with her child. Although, the problem isn’t shipping containers, it’s badly designed shipping containers that aren’t maintained at all. Also, I noticed this lady lives in Ealing. House prices there have skyrocketed since gentrification, so it’s unrealistic for this lady to think she will find a house there, unless she’s prepared to move out of London to increase her options. So many Londoners, Londoners who were born in London and have lived in London all their life’s, have now left London because they can’t afford to live there. It’s not a choice that’s easy for anyone but the harsh reality that London is no longer for the working class.
Fr, I have a civil engineer master degree and I’ve seen properly built shipping container flats. Those are regulated and can be seen around the world.

These shipping containers for the homeless are in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Out of control rent pricing for apt. and buying a house high rates is a joke.
Having somewhere safe, clean and affordable to live is a basic human necessity. Most working class people can only dream of affordable housing in 2024. It has become a luxury pushed by the rich who see housing as investment opportunities, thus pushing the prices up further and further. While homes remain investment opportunities for the few, they will remain unaffordable for the many.

Same here in America. The accomodations broke the bank.
Be upset with the people that allowed it
This age old argument is just a convenient excuse. Immigration has been used as the cause of everything that’s wrong in the UK for years. Most immigrants are living in substandard housing or hostels. Most immigrants are refused entry to the UK and are living in France, Spain, Germany or Italy. Most are doing the jobs that British people don’t want to do or refuse to do. Also, I studied immigration law and worked as a social worker in an asylum seeker team. The average person believes in myths about how the system actually works here. Britain is not overrun by any means. The predominant majority has and always will be ethnically white. The percentage of non-white people living here has never risen above 7-8%. There are countless towns and villages which remain 97-100% white and they’ve never encountered a British/born black person or immigrant so you’re not speaking facts.

@@hilarygibson3150 Thanks for your reply Hilary. My source was a charity speaker who quoted that figure publically when addressing a welfare benefits adjustment/ cut back by the Government earlier this year. It resonated with me as I was appalled at the figure quoted as it represents circa 11% of the population we have. He may have been exaggerating and as I have accepted this information vicariously, therefore I would not offer a rebuttal to your figures.
It distresses me enormously that so many question's like the aforementioned one I posed on population numbers, are not voiced by the Parlimentarians and the media.
What do Parlimentarians debate in Parliment, certainly not reviving the economy or creating meaningful jobs. Britain is in the cycle of decay this, because of past incompetent Politicians of both the main parties.
They allowed " market forces" to guide the reigns of power or they were to concerned with meddling in the social order or being impotent to destructive militancy. Durative seeds were not shown for the future by lack of wisdom in appreciating the rules of change. 1) Decay follows growth and 2) you are the either the master of change or the victim of change. Britain is being left behind because of this. We now have a incestuous economy services, house building, house sales. All this is dependant on the disposable income of the workers and what few producers we have left.

Obviously they'd rather build for high end buyers and renters.
@Moon133 This is not a new problem, we had a short period where housing improved, and it lasted about 30 years. Now we are reverting to how it used to be, private slum housing, overcrowded, rents high and high competition, erode council housing, restrict supply via regulation of building and lending.
What do you think people coped with before large scale new council housing post WWII? There was some council housing built after WWI, but quite limited before WWII got underway and loads of housing was flattened.
Why do you think villages like New Lanark. Bourneville and Port Sunlight were built by factory owners in the 19th century? Its because housing was so shockingly bad for their workers they decides to use company profits to make a better life for their workers. Well, who would have thought that multi year on year hyper immigration (and that's just the legal) much of it unskilled/dependent into a country with a completely unstructured economy regionally would lead to a housing shortage?
The answer isn't to build on every spare piece of London for example. It's to control immigration and to better balance the economy and opportunities so people don't all come and live in places like London and major cities. The current onslaught of people coming in isn't sustainable and is a really bad deal for the state. For example, why are we giving social housing out to foreign born people???? Too many immigrants. There are 4 million more people living in London than there was in the mid 1980's. We don't have a housing crisis we have an immigration crisis.
You are absolutely correct. America has the same problem. This has been brewing for decades. But the immigration discussion is met with deflection and venom; often displayed as bias and prejudice. Immigrants never understand the forced sacrifices natives make to accommodate them. Natives pay more for less. But that is ignored while natives watch the invasiveness and entitlement. The occupants of a place make a big difference, the lights, the hot water, the mold would all be nipped in the bud by someone who wants to live in a place and take pride of it. They just don't want to live here so in turn they will not make any efforts to improve their living conditions
Surprise surprise, London is too expensive with no affordable homes and the person here has made bad life decisions.
Who cares. London's awful. Wouldn't want to live there
She wants to stay in London like many immigrants. They want the best schools for their children at the cost of the family's survival.
Supply and demand issues, too many people demanding and can't supply, what's so surprising about that mad situation... Blame everything on the government policies
Lady you sound entitled!
Many people are suffering inadequate housing conditions.
England streets are not paved with gold.
Where is their father of your husband to help you?
Did you come to England to live in social housing?
Sometimes being back home would be better surely!
I wouldn't even store my property in one ,thay damage your property.
Where is the husband???...not governments fault!!........
There are even working class families in the same boat mate with both parents working. Try to pay private rent in London ! My wife and I earn a combined income of over 80k but in London that is nothing but peanuts. Whilst I agree that people's life choices are partly to blame, there is no denying that the cost of living is out of control. Renting a 3 bed house in London is atleast £2500 pcm and that doesn't include bills, food etc etc. It's truly out of control . And that 2.5k will be a very basic house, likely to have issues with it.
Exactly, getting pregnant is not compulsory
@@ynwa3476- your comments are too biased. £80K is good money. I rent a lovely three bed in Clapham for £2,800. That’s zone 2. You could move further out or even out of London and commute.
@@ynwa3476 You live in London by choice.
I’ve been here since October 2022 to November 2023
It was very difficult to live here specially if you got children
I was here with my wife and my 2 child
Both of them are under 3 years
One of my children was porn when we been there
When Ealing council bring us to Meath court they told us we gonna be here for 6 weeks and they forgot us
Finally they offered us a house on November 2023 and we left
You got lucky. Please don't have more children though. London, England and the world are overcrowded.
You made your wife pregnant while living in a container ? And you think the government is responsible for you ?

There is nothing wrong with container homes. Like any other home they must be maintained and be of good design to allow condensation to escape and cooling system to cool homes down. If they planted trees, this would of helped. The layout of the containers (all the homes) is in a terrible including narrow paths. I would of put the washing facilities in the middle of the homes, if the homes were in rectangle formation along with a park besides the laundry room so children can play while parents do the laundry. Must be maintained. Security needs to come back and ensure everyone is safe. How ironic that council expects businesses and homeowners to comply with building regulations, but they themselves are the biggest twacks. Those container homes are poorly designed. Must of got duck to draw up the plans.
It's a roof overhead & not a shop doorway or park bench - be grateful.
true, when I got my first rented flat, the landlord gave me some buckets as rain used to come in and he did really shoddy diy jobs all over the flat. At the time, I was very happy with it as I was just glad to not have to share a house. That what life is about though, starting off at the bottom ladder and moving forward. Years later. I have a lovely little house with a mortgage so it all works out if you work hard and give it time.
@@teainortakoy It's different when you have kids, they are more vulnerable to things like respiratory issues from mould.
Those containers are not properly insulated.
Who came up with the idea of shipping containers if there is a fire it would be an incinerator.
This is shameful!
I'm homeless in an old Toyota Sienna minivan in Los Angeles, after losing my housing twice during the pandemic, and couldn't afford the skyrocketing rents.
🇺🇸 is baby Britain
Los Angeles is a joke who can afford living there.
I was in a bed and breakfast like this about 20 years ago.
The films are coming true
Wow, what a brave woman, stay blessed.
Call that mould? That’s nothing..
😂my friend who paid £600 a month at a student accommodation had mushrooms in her room.
Is this a joke? If she hates it so much maybe move out of London or the UK.
Why don't you!
