Seriously though, Tatsu has one of the coolest bass tones! All of their albums have a somewhat different production. A few examples are Killifornia as done in the video here, other songs that sounds a bit different is, Badlands, Red Ripper Blues, El Padrio has a really cool groovy part towards the end, Cranley Garden, Murder Castle Blues. I like the Early Compilation alot, now only found on Vinyl or RUclips. Songs like Reverend, Room 213, Painfield and Son of A Gun is really cool, it's more clean and low end rather than distortion heavy as the later records. Still great, it's my favorite Doom Metal band! 🤘
I miss my Rick. Sold it when I was young and stupid. But at least I had it for a few glorious years. Now I'm just old and stupid and minus one Rickenbacker 4003.😢 At least when Tatsumi wants to sell his Rick, he can say it's still brand new and totally unused from the 9th fret up.🤓👍
I watched a clip of Quiet Riot playing Metal Health at the US Festival in 1983. Check out how Rudy Sarzo is holding his bass and playing in the breakdown part where the guitars drop out.
Here the best comedy bass content on ya tube, love the sbl mockery haha😂, love Rickenbackers and how people that can’t play, own or sound good on them hate then haha😅, you nailed the tone but he play way lower on the strap and way upper on the fretboard
Side note: their cover of Blue Oyster Cult’s song “Cities on Flame With Rock and Roll” is one of the grooviest things I’ve ever heard. HIGHLY recommend!
Seen them live as Monster Magnet's special guest supporting act. Half of the audience hated them, the other half loved them. (I was part of the loving half)
As a music theorist, the playing on the neck is BRILLIANT because the closer to the bridge the louder and higher the harmonics: closer to the center of the strings means more quiet harmonics and thus the LOWEST TONE POSSIBLE
He is using a Muff and an octaver [sounds like upper and lower octaves], with what sounds like some kind of modulation [sounds like a TERC or tight tri-chorus].
Dude, if I had a Rick I would walk around at parties wearing it. At work, at the gym, at home. Sleep and cuddle w it. Take it to the movies. At a restaurant I’d make reservations for me and “Rick”.
Can you do Will Rahmer's bass tone from the band mortician. The guy is absolutely mental. Has an ampeg 810 svt but still plays an Ibanez gsr 200 and was arrested for stealing a car with a knife in Poland.
The thing is, when you pluck at (or near) the octave of the note, you get the thickest tone. Pluck your E like you normally do. Great. NOW pluck it right at the 12th fret. Hear that? Its all that harmonic stuff. A fun thing to do is trying this with fretting the strings. Pay attention to the markers and inlay.
Man that sounds sick! I love Rickenbacker guitars! I played regular guitar not bass but I've messed around with a couple and would love to have a Ricky, I had a Rickenbacker electric guitar but ended up having to sell it a while back, I miss it though.
A friend of mine who worked in a used instrument store decided to experiment by running a bass through two octave pedals into a stack. It sounded like a mudslide.
I've seen Church of Misery live. They put on a great show. I never knew they had such a cult following. The crowd exploded when they started playing. Pretty wild audience for a doom show.
I'd like you to pick apart the electric wizard track, return trip an absolute banger of tune and especially the bass lines. It especially picks up in the second part
I had the honor of taking a couple of lessons from First Lady of Bass Carol Kaye and first thing she said was “lower your bass down so you can play it properly” I actually thought I had thought it was low. When she said lower I asked if she meant low like The Ramones. Yes was the answer. True fact.
The reason he plays the Rick that low is because it weights TONS. lol In all seriousness it’s crazy the way he plays. When I saw Soundgarden’s bass player play I was like HOW. But still amazed.
I like the lowest bass note by gravity thing. Just a thought - check out Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead use of his custom instrument. I know it’s not technically a bass but it’s down in the bass area of sound. And that sound is looooooooooow.
Hey Danny! Thanks for what you do! And the laughs! Definitely need those. Little question here. How would you replicate the BEHS tone of Serge Gainsbourg’s Ballade de Melody Nelson? Thanks again! Cheers!
Hey man, If you've got a Ricky no shame in flexing it. I'd do it too

That is actually a really great and gnarly tone putting aside the ridiculous strap height
I love the distortion, bass and volume on that tone. I put that sound in a lot of my music.
Asking for KC-era John Wetton bass tone. Absolutely legendary bassist.
Doesn't get enough love in my opinion
I saw that lineup a few times. P bass, cranked Marshall and Ampeg 8x10 cab is a good place to start
