    The hobby of railway modelling is a wonderful pastime that can offer so much to so many in numerous different ways.
    There are some modellers who enjoy the creation of a beautifully sceniced layout with picture postcard detail while there are others who just want to lay the track and watch the trains go round and round. There are others who obtain their enjoyment from creating a complex layout, intricately wired so that it can run almost automatically, while others desire simplicity and desire a much more uncomplicated approach to building their layout.
    Learn as you progress and as time moves on you will hone your skills and keep on learning. Never be dissatisfied with your first attempts as you can always go back at a later date and improve, just as long as the trains travel around the track without derailing or having unscheduled stops all is good

    need to drill through the board in the centre of buildings so you wire up some lights for them, the most amazing effect I ever did, makes playing in the dark extra fun. Even if just screwing in some chock block and pulling wires from each one to a centralised point so you can wire them up at a later date. Green and red lights in tunnels look amazing too.

    A baseboard of 52" x 40" as suggested in this video is barely enough to support a very basic 2nd Radius loop, never mind a FULL TRACKMAT LAYOUT with all the extension packs as is suggested here! You'd need a baseboard of about 72" x 48" at least for this!

    Could you tell me which Hornby Trackmat fits onto a baseboard of 52" x 40" please, as both of those currently available (R771 and R8217) seem to be much bigger at 1200mm x 1800mm or roughly 4ft by 6ft? And is this size (52" x 40") at least suitable for a 2nd Radius basic loop?

    • @LeroyZee
      @LeroyZee 3 года назад +1

      It’s the Trakmat R8217. It says on the corner of the mat in the video. Also the 52’ by 40’ feels like a mistake because I believe he said in the baseboard video 6 foot by 4 foot. And I think the size they said could fit a 2nd radius curve.

    • @Trainskitsetc
      @Trainskitsetc Год назад +1

      You could just not use a trackmat and use your own imagination instead. Pretty powerful dangerous stuff to use but well worth exploring.

      Second hand stuff offers very good value, especially on pointwork, making it good for a first layout- usually after a clean and the odd adjustment second or third hand track works excellently- I’ve built an exhibition layout using all second hand track!

    There is a definition problem with the title ! A "Model Railway" by definition is a miniaturisation of real railway practice. But this programme is clearly dealing with "Toy Train Sets", which bear no resemblance to the real world, as unrealistic toy train "clip together track" and unrealistic track planning is utilised !

    • @grababana
      @grababana 2 месяца назад +1

      That's not actually true, a Model Railway is simply a miniature representation of a real-word railway system. Just because the tracks clip together and the way it's all put together isn't how it would actually be made does not mean it isn't a model railway. It functions the same, it is in fact an actual model railway, and NOT just a "Toy train set".

    • @aberfordwest4003
      @aberfordwest4003 Месяц назад

      This is a toy train set, but there are prototypes- there was a horse drawn coal yard in Leicester with a very train set-esque layout
