Its more less a gimmick. The moisture within the potato negates the affects of having a heat conductive material inside. Test have shown them to maybe be 10% quicker in cooking. Its just a silly gimmick.
Just got me a trager ProSeries 22 love it love your channel been watching it ever since I’ve cooked tri-tip and smoked mac & cheese now I’m checking out your potato episode I can’t wait
Hi Arnold, we don't sell a thicker one. this one works great because its thinner and heats up faster, the ultimate goal is to have this help heat thru the inside of the potato while cooking from the outside on the grill. my go to for amazing baked potatoes. Chef Jason
So am I supposed to tell my Grandma she is wrong? :-) Thanks for your reply, have been using nails for over 20 years. I guess I’ll keep trying for another 20. They work solid, they speed up cooking time and produce a better potato. Thanks for watching. Chef Jason
I like the idea of seasoning the outside of the potatoes, and the slice and squeeze technique looks great! Gonna try it out tonight
I wanted to make potatoes like that this weekend. I thought I wonder if Chef Jason has a recipe. Thanks for the video.
Its fun to be a ACE HARDWARE Fanboy!!!
Never heard of Potato Nails, definitely going to pick them up ASAP! Love baked taters!
Thanks Gabriel! Hardware and grilling, two great things that go great together!
Gabriel Berki totally the best Christmas gift ever.

Glad to hear it! If there's a recipe you're looking for Chef Jason is up for the task! Just leave a comment with a video you'd like to see!
Love the show, information on the Treager grill was very helpful
I am glad you had that recipe. I haven't smoked any potaoes in years and couldn't remember how long to cook them. Keep smoking!
Enjoy Doug!
Thanks Doug, these are game changers for sure. Happy Cooking
Such a skinny nail compared to potato size… isn’t there a thicker nail to use? Doesn’t seem like it would work.

Who knew? Nail! So cool and makes so much sense.. and a smoked potato 🥔 sounds divine. I’ve got a BGE May try it ...
Crystal Renner so great on the BGE, use the conveggtor and do them offset. Same temp as the Traeger. Enjoy that awesome flavor.
1 more channel to subscribe too. hahaha great content you guys are putting out!
Thank you very much. Happy Cooking, Chef Jason
Should poke fork holes through potatoe skin to get more smoke IN them
that works too for more smoke flavor, also helps some of the salt and pepper get into the skin. Tasty. Chef Jason
With or without nails. A potato cooks in 60 minutes at 375. I've never used nails (first time hearing about them).
I find these nails save me about 5-7 minutes of cook time and create a much better, more fluffier potato
As I've learned from living at 7000ft. Everything BBQ takes at least 25% longer at this altitude.
Really? I guess with all the water content in potato
I take my spuds to 210 degrees….perfection!
what kinda rub did you use?
For this recipe Jason used Rub A Dub

Open lid to light
Michael Mumma thanks for watching Michael. Traeger now recommends leaving the lids closed during startup. Happy Cooking, Chef Jason

Nails speed it up too much
We love them, plus they help the center come out super fluffy and perfect at that internal temp of 205˚. Chef Jason
ATTENTION EVERYONE potato nails DONT WORK.. YOURE WELCOME!!!
So am I supposed to tell my Grandma she is wrong? :-)
