    Thanks for these memories. Good you were able to shoot from both sides of the tracks. Great to relive the sight of those handsome E60s. And what a friendly bunch of engineers you had - not only horn salutes, but even some bells!

    I remember when I was little my grandmother lived right by railroad tracks and I would spend hours outside watching Amtrak trains go by. Phase III is my favorite Amtrak paint scheme!

    The trains consisting of MHC's and or Baggage Cars were named FAST MAIL and operated in either earlier mornings before dawn or late afternoons after rush hour.

    That platform no longer exists on the other side of the perryville MD station. It is now just a bunch of dirt and rocks with a fence around the tower

    I sure miss those aem-7's. They all got repainted in the late 90's early 2000's to a silver and gray color before being scrapped in 2010 for the newer ACS - 60's.

    Back when they had a real business class in the rear section of the cafe car with single seats with huge legroom and reserved seating, and not "business class" like it is now on Regional trains where it's pretty much just a regular coach with unreserved seating that they sell tickets for twice as much in after the other coach tickets sell out.

    Anyone know what train that was at 7:50 with an E60, bag, 4 Amfleet II coaches, an Amfleet II dinette/lounge, and what looks like FOUR 10 and 6 sleepers with an MHC express car last? Was it a special, or #87, although I thought The Meteor carried a full diner at that time, and I'm fairly sure the Crescent still carried a Heritage lounge and a Heritage diner and more coaches as far as Atlanta.

      @@muhammadfadhiil5992 they were experimenting with contracting as an express mail handling service at this time to increase revenue; the US government goes through cycles of inability to determine whether Amtrak should be a public service or a self-sufficient revenue generating company, or some combination. occasionally they'd toss a coach on the back of a mail train that left Boston or New York early in the morning if they could sell a few tickets for it

    • @bitrexgm
      @bitrexgm 5 лет назад

      @@annetarozenberg5975 there was a train out of Boston and NYC called the "Fast Mail" that departed about 4:30 AM for a while that they'd put a coach on otherwise MHC train, sometimes, if there was enough (perhaps seasonal/holiday?) passenger demand for such an early train.
