A lot of people who work in the fashion industry love this movie for it's campyness and for it's use of actual fashion models, photographers, hair stylists, and makeup artists.
We all laugh at the meme, but I could imagine a giant mechanical steampunk spider as an awesome climax to a movie. I don't think this is what sank Wild Wild West.
"What's scary is something that's random, that's unknown, the unknown killer that walks up and kills you for no reason is utterly terrifying because you're defenseless against it." So essentially, Michael Myers.
Unpopular opinion, but I LOVED the ending. Tommy lee Jones’s talent really shines through and he has this amazing twitchy fidgety character change. His monologue is so well delivered and Faye falling onto him screaming I love you? Ugh! I feel like it sounds so cheesy now because of how many times the split personality trope has been done. But I feel like this is less a split personality trope and more so amazing characterization on the actors’ part. “He can’t even pay the light bill. If it were up to him he’d be 98 lbs” Just one short monologue gives this peek into two massively different characters and a whole ‘nother movie itself
In the New Yorker, Pauline Kael wrote a laudatory review of LAURA MARS and really dug into the movie’s seedy, sensual appeal. Who cares what other critics said about it?
I actually watched the film with my mom in the theater 1978. While I felt mixed emotions watching it, Tommy Lee Jones was great. I think it fit the disco era. Cold and bitter. In years later, I enjoyed the movie much more than when I originally saw it.
Fascinating backstory to this film, one which I'm pretty fond of. Faye Dunaway though, wow, what a career she had in the 1970's, and I'm not just saying this because she was my late mother's favorite actress, but I think she was one of the best things going in that decade in regarding an actor or actress.

Brilliant job, Cecil - this was (not surprisingly) a thorough and fantastic look at EOLM. The day they pop in my head I watch this not an hour later! What do you call that ( besides coincidence) Providence?
I bought that poster a few years ago for a friend after we had seen a screening of the film. There are actually three different versions of it,the pre release version of it you can barely make out Dunaway's face but the eyes are clearly visible ( that's the one I bought),as the release got closer a second version was issued, where Dunaway's face can be seen but is hazy but her eyes stand out clearly. When the film was finally released a third version was released where Dunaway's face is clearly in focus and the eyes STILL stand out.Clever,as the films release got closer and closer her face gets clearer and clearer.
Imagine, Streisand in this movie. It would've been dead on arrival. One of the greatest mysteries that will never be solved is why anyone would want Streisand for anything.
3:10 and that would explain why Lucas gave the director's chair for EMPIRE STRIKES BACK to Irvin Kershner. I have to wonder if Lucas felt completely betrayed when Kershner and Kasdan essentially locked Lucas out of his own movie. 4:20 does anyone have a link to Carpenter's original script for EYES? 7:09 it's kind of sad and hilarious that things in the 70's in New York City under democrat mayors were sending the city into a future akin to ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, and it took republican Rudy Guilliani to completely turn it around... yet Carpenter felt that "Reaganism" would lead to excessive crime and a literal police state. Just pause this and read the text... keep in mind that this was a real flyer and not a prop for an exaggerated fictional story.
I know John Peters mainly for his giant spider fetish. Nice to know he’s done stuff other than that. Anyway, I’ll probably check this out, since I’m currently into giallos. Clicked on this as soon as it popped up in my feed..
This is weird. Two movies I looked up earlier because they popped into my head…. One of which I found and watched …..
Are both mentioned in this video!
Jackson County Jail and Snake Eater!
The day they pop in my head I watch this not an hour later! What do you call that ( besides coincidence)
Providence?
I just finished this film and I really enjoyed it.
Thanks for the video and have a good night
Fuck that poster is amazing 😉
I bought that poster a few years ago for a friend after we had seen a screening of the film. There are actually three different versions of it,the pre release version of it you can barely make out Dunaway's face but the eyes are clearly visible ( that's the one I bought),as the release got closer a second version was issued, where Dunaway's face can be seen but is hazy but her eyes stand out clearly. When the film was finally released a third version was released where Dunaway's face is clearly in focus and the eyes STILL stand out.Clever,as the films release got closer and closer her face gets clearer and clearer.
the barbra streisand song from this is my fave from her,..
this is an underrated film i've seen it a few times on uk tv channel Horror
Can you do Howling IV: The Original Nightmare next?
Yes fantastic movie i saw it on cinemax at 2 in the morning 4 years ago .
13:19 The late Janet Dubois aka Wilona brought it up on an episode of Good Times.
ever review castle keep (1969) burt lancaster movie ?
Imagine, Streisand in this movie. It would've been dead on arrival. One of the greatest mysteries that will never be solved is why anyone would want Streisand for anything.
Tommy Lee Jones rockin the power unibrow! XD
They mention that the oldest kid on Malcolm in the Middle ruined Hal's laserdisc of Eyes of Laura Mars
Remember this gem. Really shady stuff. And, as always, exellent explo by your side! THX
That poster gives me the creeps.... it’s the eyes and the pitch black background. 😰
I know John Peters mainly for his giant spider fetish. Nice to know he’s done stuff other than that.
Anyway, I’ll probably check this out, since I’m currently into giallos. Wouldn’t mind you doing more “Exploring...” videos on other giallos, Cecil. It be cool if you’d spotlight some stuff by Dario Argento.
