Appreciated the video. Didn't have a problem with the length of the video. Unfortunately, our squirrels like to chew the wiring on our automobiles better than anything else.
I'm planing on doing this for are squirrels that are not good and trapping them. I could not find good bait but now i think this will work great to entice the squirrel to the trap thanks.
You may be right. I find it more humane to cull grey squirrel numbers by shooting them in the head with a quality air rifle instead of trapping them. But I might try this bait if it assists in keeping them still longer for me to take a clean shot.
Man I laughed out loud when you were explaining to the younguns what an ice cube tray was !!! That bait is a great idea. Love your channel and all the terrific tips and info you share. Cheers from Southeastern Ontario
I would forgo the extra work with the sawdust and wax. Just apply a heavy dose of that natural apple green extract onto peanuts. You're good to go. The smell is what attracts the squirrel not the wax and sawdust. That's a given! Thanks for the natural apple green extract tip. Maybe a dab/smudge of creamy peanut butter. It should enhance your odds of catching them.
@NitroLPR9 Okay! Here's what you do next. Smear the creamy peanut butter onto the acorn. Go down to home depots or lowe's and purchase a cage trap for small animals such as squirrels. The brand to get is Havahart. Gurantee you will catch them if you do it right. Insert bowl of peanuts. Lightly smear your creamy peanut butter over the peanuts. You will have success in catching these varmints.

this would be great to mix with floating fish food pellets to make a dp bait for raccoons ,just going to keep stirring to coat the pellets with the apple scent and wax . i tried apple slices on baited pole sets and kept catching raccoons . this is a great idea about the squirrel bait and gave me ideas for dp bait .

Great idea. Perhaps lard boiled can be used as a replacement for Bakers wax if you cant get local as that is what I use for rats which is mixed with spearmint oil.
Why not pour this liquid into an ice cube container, they are then ready blocks. You could half-fill them for smaller blocks as well. Great video NBWildman and thanks for the tips.
Thanks ! Going to try it on the squirrels at the lake ! They are tearing into my cabin and need to be …..exterminated? Lol going to try this with some 110 coni bears and see how that goes ! Stay turned !
I dont have sawdust, but I have some clay granules for cleaning up oil spills. It’s just plain clay, not kitty litter. U think if I powder it up it’ll work like sawdust?
I have three chain saws but I don't save the sawdust, I hoard enough as it is. I think crushed peanut shells, even with the peanuts mixed in, would do the same trick. I think the benefit of this bait is longevity, not convinced it would be better than PB.
@@garynasrallah8710 They must have something better. I can't keep them out of mine. If they're fox squirrels that might make a difference. All of mine are gray.

I would rather eat the wax over the sawdust. Just looking at the pile under my tablesaw, no way could I think about eating that. Wax and honey is good.
I live in a historic district with wonderful old homes. But the grey squirrel population has gone unchecked for decades due to the lack of natural predators leading to many homes being damaged by these squirrels and causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs. It’s amazing what a good air rifle can do to restore balance after putting down 40 confirmed squirrels in a 6 month period. Now my desired song birds can repopulate and nest in peace without murdering squirrels stealing their eggs. This approach promotes life. That’s God’s work if you ask me.
I just watched a video showing how squirrels have caused many thousands $ to alfalfa farmers. They live in burrows and come out to eat the crops. They are extremely destructive rodents.
Peanut Butter makes squirrels go crazy, Their favorite!
correct!
This is a great idea. I had not thought of using a non food substance for bait. Thanks for making this! I use marshmallow, vanilla, and some Nutella.

I wonder what the melting temp is for the wax. I Trap in attics which Can get up to 140 in summer time.
Baker’s wax, often used in baking and food preparation, typically melts at a temperature range of 140-150°F (60-65°C)
Great idea! I’d replace the sawdust with cheap oatmeal because it absorbs great as well. But yea I like it
Perfect suggestion !!!!
Oatmeal and birdseed.
Probably could use some raw steel cut oats instead of sawdust to soak up the extract, if sawdust not readily available.

Might try letting the bait firm up a little more and then heating the pan slightly and the entire block will fall out and then slice into usable sizes
