I would forgo the extra work with the sawdust and wax. Just apply a heavy dose of that natural apple green extract onto peanuts. You're good to go. The smell is what attracts the squirrel not the wax and sawdust. That's a given! Thanks for the natural apple green extract tip. Maybe a dab/smudge of creamy peanut butter. It should enhance your odds of catching them.

The brand to get is Havahart. Gurantee you will catch them if you do it right. Insert bowl of peanuts. Lightly smear your creamy peanut butter over the peanuts. I live in a historic district with wonderful old homes. But the grey squirrel population has gone unchecked for decades due to the lack of natural predators leading to many homes being damaged by these squirrels and causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs. It’s amazing what a good air rifle can do to restore balance after putting down 40 confirmed squirrels in a 6 month period. Now my desired song birds can repopulate and nest in peace without murdering squirrels stealing their eggs. This approach promotes life. That’s God’s work if you ask me.
