I treat my gold & silver hobby more as a "savings account" than a "get rich scheme" I could never save, just hopeless at it, but buying gold & silver means it's difficult to "spend it". Just wish I'd begun many years ago ! I would say that what you do with gold and silver is NOT to invest in it but to keep it as an insurance against the whim of currencies. That is what the kings and queens did, it retained the value of their wealth.
