    The funny thing about the 28,002 feet is that the person who did the measurement actually had determine it was 28,000 feet tall but thought no one would believe such a number would be anything other then a rounded off estimate so he added 2 feet to it so it would appear more accurate. The really strange thing is that later it was found he had miscalculated and it actually had been 28,002 feet tall. BTW, the height changes over time.

    • @brianaustin5467
      @brianaustin5467 2 года назад +1

      @@brianaustin5467 I should have double checked my original comment. I should have said 29,000 and 29,002 feet. I had written a very detailed response to your comment (which is correct), but accidentally erased it, so I will keep this simple (no figures). First, any answer given, no matter how accurate, is only accurate for a short period of time. The official height given in 2020 is an agreed upon compromised between China and Nepal ... and is a measurement taken only to determine if and how mach a local earthquake had changed things. But, even if that was 100% accurate both Everest and sea levels are rising, just at different rates: currently sea level is slower then Everest's ... but that will probably not always be the case. And, to further complicate things, sea level, near Everest, is not only effected by ice melt but also by the fact that as Everest grows (as does the rest of the mountain range), so does its gravitational pull on nearby body's of water, which also raises the sea level that Everest's height is being measured against. Fun times.

      @@robertadams8192 Yes, i know. My main point was about the 28k, I just added the rest as this was the latest agreed figure. It is ironic that we can now measure the distance to the Moon, using laser technology, to less than a mm. This of course changes by the minute due to eccentricity in its orbit. Science is wonderful.

Yes it was all good humour (Deayton was stellar in his acceptance of the banter) but Hislop and Merton can sometimes come across as a pair of altar boys where butter wouldn't melt. There is not a human being alive without some sort of skeleton in their closet. The hipocracy of the critics of Angus Deaton at the time was for me, hard to take. I mean Deayton was possibly guilty of what a vast majority of the male population between the ages of 19 and 55 in london were doing every weekend. He wasn't F***ing a junior member of staff like another silver haired presenter in more recent times (May 2023) and that paticular individual will probably quickly reinstated as his sexuality is in more trend!
      Hislop using the news of the World article as truth to ridicule Deayton was ridiculous when you consider the events to befall that publication in the years to follow(Levison Enquiry) totally absurd.
      Deayton was disliked by Merton because he was just as sharp and quick witted if not more so and is a great comic and straight actor.

    None of the guest presenters since, who have presented it multiple times, have come close to Angus' quality. There have been some fantastic performances from guest presenters but it attests more to their own personality and style rather than being better suited. Des Lynam, Bruce Forsythe, Brian Blessed are some examples of this in my opinion. It would be great if Angus came back as full time host if/when Ian and Paul get dropped because of the woke culture or if he is the last guest presenter when the show gets axed for the same reason. He didn't behave very well but it was 18 years ago.

      Woke culture? Srsly, not every single thing you like can be dismissed by the ill-defined term ‘woke’. And yo7 claim the left is easily offended? How precious can you be. 🤦‍♀️

    This show went downhill after they sacked Angus. The guest format was novel for a while, but never really worked out. Merton and Hislop were practically bullying him at this point.

    So, after Angus, getting in guest hosts that include a right-wing racist buffoon and giving him prominence to end up becoming Mayor of London, then even more laughably Foreign Secretary, then not so funny to become PM, do you think Ian & Paul have a lot of that moral high ground they were stood on by the end of Series 24?

      @sm_uk They don't choose the guests or guest presenters.
      Furthermore,do you really think the electorate who voted for Johnson are that stupid and gullible that their decision on who to vote for was based on 7 appearnaces on a t.v. programme,the last of which was in 2006?????
