The funny thing about the 28,002 feet is that the person who did the measurement actually had determine it was 28,000 feet tall but thought no one would believe such a number would be anything other then a rounded off estimate so he added 2 feet to it so it would appear more accurate. The really strange thing is that later it was found he had miscalculated and it actually had been 28,002 feet tall. BTW, the height changes over time.
@@brianaustin5467 I should have double checked my original comment. I should have said 29,000 and 29,002 feet. I had written a very detailed response to your comment (which is correct), but accidentally erased it, so I will keep this simple (no figures). First, any answer given, no matter how accurate, is only accurate for a short period of time. The official height given in 2020 is an agreed upon compromised between China and Nepal ... and is a measurement taken only to determine if and how mach a local earthquake had changed things. But, even if that was 100% accurate both Everest and sea levels are rising, just at different rates: currently sea level is slower then Everest's ... but that will probably not always be the case. And, to further complicate things, sea level, near Everest, is not only effected by ice melt but also by the fact that as Everest grows (as does the rest of the mountain range), so does its gravitational pull on nearby body's of water, which also raises the sea level that Everest's height is being measured against. Fun times.
